  1. She's genuinely one of the best pundits/sports journalists in the country. Better than the majority of idiots on TV usually. Her biggest problem is that she never acts like a clearing in the woods so doesn't generate headlines/mentions.
  2. Not sure if it's just occurred as I've gotten older, but the connection between fans and the national team seems to lessen after every major tournament. With every media hype job and then team failure, it gets worse. If the FA keep Southgate on after the tournament, unless he miraculously turns things around, then I believe that fan relationship will be irreparably damaged; they'd rather have a yes man than a successful one and it'll be clear to everyone.
  3. After seeing the reviews on here I've watched Mare of Easttown with the wife over the last week. Really well acted, Winslet is terrific. But I can't say I enjoyed it. It was just so dreary and downbeat. It was like a big budget EastEnders. You think a character's life can't get worse, and then the next episode hits. Still, I can see why it's been very well received, and the acting is very good across the board. Great location too, fits the story superbly.
  4. Ian Wright was bang on. He said it was embarrassing. Too right.
  5. Southgate. Not just a man without an answer. A man who doesn't understand the question.
  6. At some point Southgate has to take the handbrake off and take off Philips or Rice for a forward player.
  7. Foden is incredible. We should be building around him and Jack.
  8. That's fair enough, I just think we'll be more mobile and press better if we keep Sterling on and take off Kane. Kane's movement has been atrocious. Sterling's touch has been poor but at least he's getting involved and pressing high too.
  9. I think there's a good case for both points. Neither have been anything close to effective.
  10. Kane off, Jack on. Sterling central. Keep the ball and control the game. Push one of the double pivots forward, gap between midfield and the attackers is too great and we can't sustain any pressure at all.
  11. We're short when we go forward. Philips and Rice both sitting so deep, too deep, and the fullbacks are rarely getting forward. There's gaps on the edge of the box when we do get it wide but nobody in the space as we're so negative.
  12. England could play for 180 minutes with these tactics and not score. We're blunt.
  13. The media reaction to him is infuriating, especially when you hear or read that he's only in to provide balance, and that Coady is more of a leader. In fact, it boils my piss. Said it before in this thread, but he's more than just a centre half. Listen to any of his in depth interviews, the one he did with Jake Humphreys for example. Listen to him on the pitch FFS. Tyrone is the definition of leader. Yes, he drops a clanger occasionally, but look how much things have improved at the villa since he came in. He's a big reason for our improvement. Lazy media just don't want to know
  14. A win is a win, and I was impressed with Phillips, Mings, and Mount. Sterling, goal aside, simply doesn't offer as much as Jack on current form. That being said, England opening games are usually nervy affairs and hopefully we'll improve in the next game. I saw nothing that changes my mind that we'll lose against the first decent team we meet.
  15. Didn't expect that, we've looked flat so far. Well done Sterling and Phillips.
  16. Croatia 2-0. They'll have seen the line up and know they can get at this team.
  17. Trippier starting at lb shows that we'll be playing a flat back 4. Dynamic management there.
  18. Absolutely devastating for his family and friends, fingers crossed he pulls through.
  19. As a poster said earlier, inclusion of Ben White pretty much confirms that Maguire won't be fit. We now have 5 centre halves in the squad plus Kyle Walker, who most suspect will play on the right of a three. By including unfit Maguire and Henderson, Southgate is clearly picking his favourites, which is why for me Jack won't start against Croatia.
  20. Because of Southgate, I think we'd all be surprised if Jack does start against Croatia, however I'd argue that by moving to the 5-2-3 everyone suspects we'll start with then Jack should be even more influential if started. Playing on the left of the 3 he wouldn't have to track back as much as a 4-5-1 or 4-3-3 and he'd be able to cut inside more when Shaw or Chilwell get forward. I just think he'd be even better. That being said, I think Rashford is nailed on. Massive shame.
  21. Vassell touched on it in his review on SSN. There's talented individuals but the cohesion and understanding isn't there. He's had two different centre half partners in the last two games alone, not sure how many in his previous caps. Not sure how a centre half can play really well when he doesn't know his partner's game. Compare this with his regular partner Konsa, he reads him so well.
  22. Henderson slows the play down far too much. Always does for Liverpool. Proper Southgate player, can see why he wants him in the team over fit and in form players...
  23. The tactics don't suit the players, majority are used to pressing instead of sitting deep. Also massive imbalance in the side. Shaw is getting forward occasionally and Godfrey is playing like a centre half at right back. We're lopsided. Movement is shocking. Southgate really doesn't have a clue.
