  1. I reckon Doug wrote the handbook on narcissism.
  2. Have a read of Sir William Dugdales autobiography, He states that of all the board members only Ellis was against appionting Ron Saunders.
  3. First, welcome and good luck Dean. To my mind i think he was always first choice, the fact that it is only 1 week since Bruce had the bullet a long with the entire coaching set up, indicates to me that this was the plan they intended. To source and negotiate 3 new high profile recruits in the last 24hrs or so after Henry had turned us down seems a little fanciful, along with the fact that Smith has potentially a ready made backroom staff. As for comments I've read saying it's obvious that the new board aren't going to bankroll us, surely FFP puts a stop to that, time to tell will be when we are back in the top division.
  4. Time to reshare this article from 2011, good analysis, but the comments are even more enlightening. https://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2011/nov/30/steve-bruce-sunderland-sacked
  5. From Castle Brom, living in Perth WA for last 10 years, cant get into the A league, prefer to grab the dogs and watch the local team over the rec, sorry oval. Supported the Villa because it in our DNA. First game against Norwich 1967, think we won, i remember Brian Greenhaugh scoring.
  6. Definitely the best time to have been a Villa fan. The second Saunders team was probably the best i reckon, as someone previously has said Gray, Little and Deehan as a forward line, scored goals for fun. Was in the Witton end for that Liverpool game, all 5 were scored at that end in the first half and we also hit the bar twice in the second half. If i remember correctly we also stuck 5 up Arsenal and Wrexham that season. That team also included the great Alex Cropley. Oh happy days.
  7. on SBS over here, it stated an undisclosed contract.
  8. Can't believe that people are getting Xia's back over liking a tweet, shall with have Villa park declared a "safe space" with a list of trigger words.Poor little things getting criticised when they stuff up.
  9. No not at all, if that's a term that has been around as long as the word Soccer.
  10. But thats not true it is not an Americanisim, Was there not Star Soccer in the 1970s on ATV, i also have a 1950s book called Charles Buchans Soccer annual and growing up as a kid in Shard End we always referred to it as a game of soccer.Think to many people get a little bit precious over a common term for association football thats been around for 100 years or more.
  11. Can't understand, why this loathing of the word soccer by expats anytime it's used down here.
  12. 100% this i reckon influenced Moyes decision, would be under a massive amount of pressure from day one, having a kitty of 40-50 million. If it went tits up would be career over for him. I think he would be after a premiership side mid to lower, with basically a competent squad that he can slowly improve.
  13. Maybe the thought of playing the youth concerns him, because of the effect playing in a shit team would have on them, for example Grealish and his demise.
  14. Not made my mind up about Remi Garde as of yet, but one thing he does deserve, and that is something that every manager has had, is the opportunity to sign his own players and build his team. Until that happens i think it's unfair to judge him to harshly. At the end of the day you cannot make a silk purse out of a sows ear.
  15. I'm optimistic we can turn this around, based on the fact that in none of the loses we have took a hiding, infact many of the loses have been self inflicted either by ridiculous managerial decisions - such as when 2-0 up at Leicester and not packing midfield, playing 5 at the back at home to Stoke then reverting to a flat back 4 at halftime only to play Crespo instead of Lescott (for all his faults) as the other CB- or by individual errors Amavi at Palace,Guzan at Chelsea. Hopefully with Garde the first part I mentioned can be addressed.
  16. What other option did he have? Strong rumours saying club is for sale and he waited till the end of the season to confirm it. Same as he said February time when more strong rumours were doing the rounds "not looking to sell"
  17. The fact that im clinging to is that the statement Lerner issued when he stated that he will address his ownership at the end of the season. Now you would think he would say that so not to destabilize the team. So why would he now make a statement that could destabilize the club for the whole of next season if there is no purchaser in site.
  18. The same Colymore that stated catagoticaly several weeks ago, that Moyes wouldn't be sacked.
  19. Cant understand this love in with Lambert and Rodgers could be one season wonders, the Premier League is littered with them Paul Jewel and look at Mcleish at the end of the 2009/10 season taken the shit to 9th.When they have done it for 3 or 4 years then maybe.
  20. Think also that P***k Grant has as much to do with it all. SHA went down the shitter once he joined them. had a look at his managerial and coaching career and its a picture of faliure before he teamed up with Mcleash
  21. This 100%. Has a goals per game ratio marginally better than that fox in the box Heskey
  22. In my humble opinion the state the clubs in, everyone with exception of the youngsters is fair game for crtisisim. The action of the board (or lack of it) reminds me of the club just before deadly took over in the 60s
  23. Himmler was a nasty, nasty Human being. As much as i dislike Ireland, hes not exactly in that catagory. Look at the reason why he does not play for the Rep of Ireland anymore (apart from being crap) tells you all about the man.Perhaps man is the wrong word.
