I'd say there'd still be a draw to play for City on the same wages as he'd have here. They can offer him pretty much winning everything possible.

It's talksport. He's been leaving according to the newspapers for the last six years, from Middlesbrough to City. Whether he leaves or not remains to be seen, but the one definite is that newspaper transfer rumours are 99% pure bollocks. And TalkSport is one of the biggest attention seekers out there. (OK it's not a newspaper, but still a bullshit stream).

Nah, it's a constant thing. Flag wanking, flags out of windows and balconies, with mini side flags alongside, attached to all the things I mentioned, is a huge thing for a certain section of the hard right in Spain, and it seems to be a big group with a lot of kids and your average people falling alongside. I've become strangely fascinated by it. And I'm afraid for the UK with this particular government!

I have had my fill of flag rocket polishers here in Spain. It's everywhere—people with lame little wristbands, flags out of windows, flag ribbons on bags and baby carriages, hanging from their cars. I'm in Madrid though and it has a reputation for being particularly bad here. It's interesting, in fact, comparing the right wing in Spain, a lot of whom are very nostalgic about Franco and unashamedly so, I see some signs of where this very hard right version of the Tories are trying to take the UK. Spain has deep deep rooted problems when it comes to tribal politics, and I fear that Brexit has given rise to similar forces. It's not about right or wrong any more. It's not about the truth. It's about what team you're on. One of the examples of a guy with a Spanish ribbon on his backpack also, not coincidentally, had an iron cross tattoo on his calf. Apologies Genie, I went off on one there! But you mentioning free flags triggered a few fears.

Reading this thread here on villatalk and everyone obsessed with Arsenal fans and forums definitely suggests a few possible reasons as to why.

You inspire me to follow up what I was posting earlier—small sample, but my Arsenal-fan friend doesn't give a shit. My two Spurs friends are pretty chilled out people too and it's possible you're just engaging in the mire of fuckheads on social media and reading it as something bigger.

There's a variety of comments tbh. Some less cringe-worthy than others! I'm not sure I completely agree that Villatalk 'mainly discusses social media content'—I thought we talked about Villa and didn't realise that there was a rule that we discuss social media content (I'm joking btw—I know it's not a rule—'SocialMediaTalk would be a good name for that). I think Villatalk is pretty decent to be fair, but this thread sometimes seems as obsessed with the worst of Arsenal fans as it is with Jack. Anyway, it's not a big deal.

Idiots being idiots on social media, what a surprise. I mean, it's amusing enough, but the narrative seems to have become 'Arsenal fans are deluded', and it's starting to become ironic that on here individual Arsenal-fans-being-idiots are elevated to a more generalised idea of the fanbase as a whole. We've had weeks of it now, and I'm not sure we're being much better tbh, and I'm pretty sure if I looked through the comments of Villa fans on social media I'd cringe just as much!

I'm not sure picking out quotes from individual Arsenal fans and painting all their fans the same way makes us look much more enlightened. It's almost getting a bit embarrassing reading our constant obsession with random Arsenal fans. There are dicks there and there are dicks here too to be fair!

Ha I think it was me. I'm in one of those heavily procrastinating, not focussed on what I need to do, so I'm on Villatalk states of mind.

I think I didn't read the whole conversation and probably missed the point to be fair! The gist I may have misunderstood seemed to be who wouldn't want to be the national manager generally speaking. My head wasn't thinking only England.

There would be an argument that it's an opportunity to get Maguire up to speed a bit. If that's the team it would be hard to say that Foden was dropped for Grealish, more a bit of rotation.

Then that's a bit worrying! (I'm joking, but we don't have enough information other than to make a guess, surely)
