We play too much phone box football at times. 3 players standing next to each passing 5 yards and then we get boxed it as a result. It’s a symptom of our midfield being so immobile though, it’s hard to find the likes of Barkley and Traore in space because they are static.

Brilliant again tonight. Absolute leader. To have picked up clean sheets against Southampton, Brighton, Arsenal is phenomenal considering how much under the cosh they've been. The whole backline have been hung out to dry by the ones in front of them for the past few weeks and still stood strong. It would be good to remember games like this he makes the odd mistake (like every player on earth) instead of automatically labelling as 'shit' and 'not good enough'. Since the Burnley half time we have been poor. To pick up 7 points from 12 available is a great return considering how bad they've been. A lot people wont admit to it while the points are coming in but you'd think Smith is acutely aware of it. Its like we can't physically earn the right to play. Brighton and West Ham in particular absolutely bullied us, it was like men against boys but it was the same story against Southampton and Arsenal in the games we won. We are just relying on Ollies' work rate forcing an error high up the pitch or Jack getting it on the break at the moment. Aren't Villa top of the table for late goals (or goals after 90th minute or sumin?) - I've seen that stat pop up during games. Yes, protecting a lead is a totally different thing but having players out there doing the full 90+ week in week out may be a key reason for success. They were only due to play Spurs 2 weeks ago...they would have done analysis and preparation then and theyve got Monday and tuesday for the training ground stuff just like any midweek match after a weekend game. Its a non issue, theyll be fine.

The bookies do a handicap premier league winner. Ignorant to our new signings they went Villa +50 points at 25 quid at 16/1 (for comparison West Brom were +52 ffs , fulham +54, Leeds only +40, Liverpool +5). So as far im concerned we are absolutely pissing the premier league.

It’s what drew the fullback in and gave Ghazi the chance to score. He absolutely nails the dark arts and thats why he’s captain for me...he’s always looking for an edge and a way to win and i think it rubs off on some of the ‘ nicer’ more laid back lads.

Thought he did well. It’s ok saying he missed a load of chances but if Trezeguet or Traore get the ball in a lot of those positions the chance doesn’t happen. I will say though with his shoot on sight approach he and all the sitters last season his conversion rate must be shocking. Just wish he had a bit more composure at times.

Watkins is in many ways a limited footballer. Really shows at times. He makes up for it with his attitude and centre forward play but with the ball at his feet he does look lower league.

Crazy how different people see things. Wins everything in the air, makes blocks he has no right to and covers up for cb and full back mistakes. Take him out the team and we'd go to sh*t. Look at last season...our most wtf performances defensively were Southampton at home, Watford away, Leicester at home, Spurs at home where he was missing. He carried that backline at times last year. On the Laursen comparison, he was diabolical with the ball at his feet, if we played out from the back the way we do now he'd be dropping a load of clangers. Ming's ability on the ball and to pick out a pass is lightyears above him. But then again, if there is even arguments over whether he is a leader(!) than i don't think its worth even getting onto to the football side.

He should basically be on an agents fee at this point. He got Barkley to join us and he convinced Tammy to stay when things were going a bit stodge in the championship and Wolves were in for him.
