  1. Traore has been an absolutely pointless sub. Been absolutely dreadful like all the other games he's played this season.
  2. Fantastic start to the 2nd half. Hopefully we go and win now.
  3. They're showing the Barnes elbow, VAR once again proving to be an absolute waste of space. Guy's a thug and should have been off.
  4. May as well bring Coutinho and Ings on soon if we don't get an early goal in the 2nd half.
  5. I think you've mistaken me for someone else, I felt Buendia was harshly dropped after the away game at Burnley, but I've always felt he's massively overrated by many on here.
  6. 45 mins of us just passing it sideways and back while Burnley sit 10 men behind the ball. It's all too predictable what's going to happen.
  7. F*** off Villa, f*** off Gerrard, another defeat incoming. Watch Burnley just sit back now and we'll do nothing because we're shite.
  8. I think that's Carney's first start under Gerrard and only his second start at this level. He's so talented, I hope he can put in a great performance tonight. We really need to win tonight as 15 points from 13 home games under Gerrard is poor and we've been much better away under him. Looks like Burnley are playing a back 5 so very defensive. Tarkowski is back in the lineup for them.
  9. We'll most likely get nothing at City regardless of which team we put out so I'd rather he went full strength to get the win tomorrow, or at the very least almost full strength with maybe a couple of changes. If he doesn't it looks as though he's just focusing on the City game to try to get Liverpool the league title, which will not look good.
  10. The Newcastle thing is what makes this season even more of a kick up the backside. On 1 January 2022 they had 11 points from 19 games, we had 22 points from 18 games. Since that time they have taken 35 points from 18 games under Howe while we have taken 22 points from 18 games under Gerrard. Both teams significantly strengthened in January, but you could argue we both added 2 real quality players to our teams (Newcastle with Bruno and Trippier and us with Coutinho and Digne) - however, Trippier was injured since when they played us over 3 months ago and only recently returned to the squad. Therefore, the contrasting form of both sides is nothing short of a disgrace on our side given we have 1.22 points per game and they have 1.94. That's complete failure on Gerrard's part (whilst Howe of course deserves absolute praise and no wonder he's up for Manager of the Year). Some people on here defend Gerrard by saying it's the players, McGinn, Luiz etc aren't good enough. Well Newcastle beat Arsenal last night with players like Krafth, Longstaff, Joelinton, and our very own Matt Targett in the lineup, players who wouldn't be deemed good enough if they played for us. I just feel it's excuses and if Gerrard fails to beat Burnley on Thursday night it will be yet another poor result in a long list of poor results since he came in.
  11. However much we may want to send Neverton or Leeds down, for the integrity of the league we have to take this match seriously and put in as strong a performance as we can. A dominant performance and good win will at least mean we finish our last home game with a positive result, which the fans deserve after another campaign where our home form has been well below par.
  12. Aston Villa last 10 seasons: 20/21: 11th (Prem) 19/20: 17th (Prem) 18/19: 5th (Champ) 17/18: 4th (Champ) 16/17: 13th (Champ) 15/16: 20th (Prem) 14/15: 17th (Prem) 13/14: 15th (Prem) 12/13: 15th (Prem) 11/12: 16th (Prem) Previous 10 seasons (all Prem): 10/11: 9th 09/10: 6th 08/09: 6th 07/08: 6th 06/07: 11th 05/06: 16th 04/05: 10th 03/04: 6th 02/03: 16th 01/02: 8th Pretty grim viewing when we will likely finish somewhere between 11th and 14th this season and miss out on top 10 again. We had 7 top 10 finishes in the last decade before this one to 0 top 10 finishes in 11 seasons (admittedly three of them spent in the Champ). We really have to get our sh*t together next season because we've been mediocre for far, far too long.
  13. But we have better players now than we had finishing 11th last season other than Grealish going, we've bought in 5 quality players, El Ghazi and Traore were playing for us last season, Ramsey was nowhere near as good. How many Palace players get in our team? Gallagher, Zaha, one of the CBs perhaps. Yet they were the much better side for much of the game on our own patch, that really is on the manager I'm sorry.
  14. Chris we're 12th on 44 points, Palace are 11th on 45 points, Brighton are 10th on 48 points. We don't need to finish above Leicester as they're 9th. Brighton play Wet Spam final game of the season so could easily lose, if we were to pick up 4 points from last 2 we would finish above them on GD. I don't think it will happen because we always lose at City (although I would love it if we did stop them winning the title) but it is still mathematically possible. We just need to focus on beating Burnley first, we'll need to play a hell of a lot better than the crap we saw today that's for sure.
  15. As has been said, the football is awful. Constantly lumping it up the pitch, poor movement, high pressing non-existent, the only thing that is good is the shape out of possession but on the ball we are horrible to watch. People need to stop saying it's the players, it really isn't, look at how Palace play under Vieira and other than Gallagher their midfield is exactly the same as it was last season. Luckily we have some very good players who can bail us out even when we play poorly, but if I have to watch these turgid displays next season after spending another 100+ million it's going to be a long season.
  16. I wanted us to sign him permanently and still think for the money it will be a great deal but he was really poor today and its now been 9 games since he got a goal or an assist which just isn't good enough even if he was playing well. The fact that he isn't playing well either and giving simple passes to the opposition really is an insult considering he was once the world's second most expensive player. I blame a lot of it on Gerrard though because he was coming so deep to get the ball at times and he should have been much higher up the pitch where he can do damage.
  17. A point at City provided we beat Burnley and Brighton loss means we could still make top 10. I don' think it will happen but mathematically it is still possible.
  18. God that was dreadful, very lucky to escape with a point but also could have won it as we finally turned up with about 5 minutes to go and had 2 or 3 good chances to win it. Once again Gerrard gets a 'Very Poor' rating from me, not so much not making changes from Liverpool as we played well, but for the team once again looking completely clueless for most of the game especially in possession. That's on him.
