  1. Sorry I meant Spurs play with a double pivot, but not a 4-2-3-1 you're right.
  2. A lot of good teams in the league deploy it like Arsenal, Leicester and West Ham, plus Gerrard's narrow 4-3-2-1 has hardly been a roaring success.
  3. As long as we sign another first team midfielder I'll be happy, but I am also a bit gutted if Palhinha ends up at Fulham as I genuinely think he would comfortably strengthen our first team too if Gerrard bothered to play a double pivot. Season starts August 6th this year due to World Cup so we need to bringing in our final signings in the next 2-3 weeks I'd say so that they can fully take part in preseason. That's why lack of tangible links currently is a worry.
  4. Well they're not. I just mentioned Wolves were too.
  5. Play for Portugal and Sporting, one of the best statistically DMs in Europe last season along with Kamara. Also linked with Wolves as Neves replacement. Far too good for Fulham.
  6. Depressing was the wrong word, but it's definitely quiet/flat/boring. Just no tangible links to anyone at all since we signed Carlos, I hope they don't make the mistake they made last summer of thinking what we have is enough.
  7. If Fulham sign Palhinha for €18m I will be seriously annoyed. At that price we should be all over it, pair him with Kamara in midfield with Ramsey/McGinn just ahead of them. After a great start to the window it just seems nothing is really happening at Villa despite still needing reinforcements, all a bit depressing.
  8. Prepare well for Bournemouth and we should win, just need to ensure we don't underestimate them. I think we need a minimum of 10 from those opening 6 games to feel a positive season will be incoming. Three of the sides finished in the top 7 last season, but three of them finished bottom half and one is newly promoted. I think 10 points minimum is a fair expectation from that. If we add another 1-2 first team quality players which I think we will then maybe we'll get more but let's wait and see.
  9. W, W, D, W, L, L - 10 points. Bournemouth away is a potential banana skin as newly promoted team but I don't expect us to be as underprepared as we were when we played Watford first game last season.
  10. A young Luka Modric would be ideal, it would be nice if our scouts could go out and find him.
  11. A player of that ilk then. I wonder if Juve would be still open to selling McKennie.
  12. 25m for Bissouma is great business. Think we might come to regret this one. Kamara definitely isn’t enough. We need another 100%. Conor Gallagher or Renata Sanches would be decent options for us.
  13. A home game to start the season would be nice. I’m not sure I understand all these people saying Liverpool or city away (or even home), yes you can catch them cold but it’s unlikely and we really need to get off to a good start next season and build momentum early. First six like this: Southampton (h) Palace (a) Fulham (a) Brighton (h) Arsenal (a) Leeds (h) Reckon we take quite a few points from those (at least 10, maybe 12+). Boxing Day Spurs, Neverton or the Dogheads at VP. Last few games teams with nothing to play for, especially if we still could make too 6/7. So any team from 8-14, or already relegated, I’m thinking Everton, Wolves, Brighton, Bournemouth, teams like that (if my predictions for finishing places are accurate).
  14. If that happens and Poch goes there that could be very bad for us as he's a far better manager than Howe or Gerrard and would very quickly make Newcastle a major threat. Not saying that I want Gerrard to fail, but if it meant we got Poch it would work out very well for us as IMO he's still an elite manager despite the last few years not being so good for him. Hopefully Gerrard proves me wrong but his form in 2022 was very poor indeed. He needs to get off to a good start next season and have us up near the top 6 by the time the World Cup comes around.
  15. I don't know but lots of sources reported it, it's probably because he didn't want to go back to Barca, had a good relationship with Gerrard, and simply wanted to play. Coutinho is still in the top 3 earners at the club even if Kamara is the highest paid (which is only speculation, no one actually knows). Kamara was only paid so much because: 1) we got him on a free; and 2) he's only 22 and if all goes to plan he will be one of the best midfielders in Europe in 2-3 years. While Coutinho is a great player, he's also getting on (30 tomorrow) and has already earnt a fortune in his career so far.
  16. That's a bad source, Percy said it too and he's usually accurate: https://twitter.com/JPercyTelegraph/status/1524827384863764485?cxt=HHwWisC9qa-bo6kqAAAA Kamara definitely isn't on over 200K per week, maybe 150-170K which would only be slightly more than Coutinho. Was reported we paid him a large signing on fee though.
  17. Jeez, France with all their talent bottom of a group with Austria, Denmark and Croatia. All decent teams but it's a group they should win. God knows what's going on. Kamara has done ok, very classy on the ball and defensively solid (not his fault France were a mess defensively for the goal). Probably could show for the ball more at times but it is only his 2nd cap. France will probably throw Mbappe on early in the 2nd half as they need to turn this game around even if this competition is pretty meaningless.
  18. Not sure if I'm allowed to link direct but it's live here: http://www.ovostreams.com/events/2022/austria-vs-france-s1/ Kamara looks very good on the ball, could get involved a bit more though. Can see why Tchouaméni is so highly rated.
  19. Now need to go and buy an up-and-coming LB who already has a bit of experience and the potential to be a viable replacement for Digne in a few years. I'd say it's between Merlin, Sergio Gomez, or Hickey who have all been linked to us. All the right age (20/21) and all have the potential to get to Digne's level.
  20. We don't know what the loan fee was, you're just guessing at 5m. It could have been much lower than that. The loan fee is separate from the transfer fee anyway, the loan fee was what Newcastle were willing to pay to avoid relegation which saved them millions and would have repaid itself. This is a separate agreement and once again we're receiving a fee lower than we should be. I don't particularly rate Targett but he's an OK PL player and is worth more IMO.
  21. We paid 11.5m with 2.5m in add ons in summer 2019 after promotion, he was a backup at Southampton then and playing second fiddle to Bertrand. In the last 3 years he has played pretty much every single PL game, is far more established at this level than when we first signed him, helped Newcastle finish 11th when they were 18th when he joined, and won our player of the season award in 20/21. Be honest, 12m is an awful deal. I thought that 15m was what was agreed so we've clearly backtracked to get him off our books, but we should be getting at least 5m more for him. It's a bad deal whichever way you look at it and once again shows we're poor at getting maximum prices for our players, yet we're quite happy to get fleeced by the likes of Southampton and Bournemouth for Targett and Mings who both had no futures at the club.
  22. France play three more games in the next 9 days, if he doesn't make at least a couple of the squads especially after their performance against Denmark then you'd think there is some kind of agenda. I don't imagine when Deschamps initially called him up it was just for him to train with the squad and play no part in the games, that would be pretty pointless.
  23. I never really understand why someone gets called up and then doesn't even make the bench, especially in an area of the field where they're already quite light (only Rabiot and Guendouzi and they're more box to box midfielders) and especially as he can choose to name as many subs as he likes for international fixtures. Plus the fact Kamara has had an outstanding season. Unless Kamara has some kind of knock, it really wouldn't surprise me if he has done it because he signed for us, especially given his comments in the recent press conference, it's pathetic really.
