If you'd prefer Randy to rush into appointing a manager, without identifying and interviewing other candidates, then yes there's no excuse. Thankfully our chairman has a bit more about him and will make an informed decision once he knows what options are available and what they can bring to the table. Getting the right man in, regardless of their current employment status, will take time.

It's not a different discussion at all. You asked who I'd play at left back. My answer was someone who was available to MacDonald and is on our books. That he chose Beye instead of Warnock was his mistake and it cost us the group stages. That one single selection directly cost us 2 goals. And yes, I could have told you that before kick off. Beye in his preferred position is a disaster. Dropping an England leftback to take that **** cabbage and put him in an unfamiliar position would be hilarious if it wasn't a) true and done at Villa. Warnock wasn't in the squad for a reason. I don't know why but he wasn't. McDonald made a decision to leave him out. Whether that was the right or wrong decision is irrelevant. For what it's worth I agree - Warnock should have played. My question was, other than Warnock (as he wasn't in the squad that day) who would you have played? It was a genuine question. If Warnock isn't available, who would you play at left-back? Jeez

I was asking BOF who he would have played instead of Beye. What's Warnock got to do with anything? He wasn't in the squad. Whether Warnock should have been in the squad (or the starting eleven for that matter) is a different discussion entirely.

I can't shake off that feeling that there are many on here who are desperate for the Villa to fail this season. The well of top class managers is dry, although a few VTers could perhaps start a football manager recruitment agency, as it is clearly easy to appoint a manager at this time. If it's KMac, so be it. We have a list of candidates. I don't believe for a second Kevin McDonald is our first choice. I trust Randy and I believe everything Paul said in his statement. "Two of the traits we believe are of crucial importance are that candidates have experience of managing in the Premier League and a strategy for building on the existing strengths in our current squad." A manager with previous Premier League experience is not Kevin McDonald. However... If the manager we're looking for can't be prized away from their club (let's face it getting someone like Moyes [for example] isn't going to be easy) I'd rather have Kevin McDonald put in charge for a season than get a second-rate manager in just for the sake of it (i.e Curbishley, Pulis or frickin' Pardew) If Kevin McDonald is appointed I am not going to blame Randy and start spouting this "We've been lied to!" bollocks. Randy will appoint the best man for the job out of who is available - if that's Kevin, so be it.
