  1. despite some lack of communication and quality we have been trying to play the right way.
  2. I like this one best of the few on this page. Why? It has no Tonev in it. aside from his comedy shooting he hasn't looked that bad, only player to have put in a decent cross before Albrighton came back
  3. A Benteke goal is long overdue, and if we have Tonev and Alrbighton crossing he might actually score still think Kozak would be a better option
  4. can Bacuna play on the left? we've only seen him on the right so far?
  5. Guzan Bacuna - Lowton - Baker - Clark Delph - Gardener - Westwood Albrighton - Kozak - Tonev --------- Not sure the defence works at all, but better that than Luna and Baker in one team.
  6. Way to bring a downer on the occasion! even Bannan is not really Bannan
  7. Wonder how that works for them next year? well normally you need experienced players on higher wages to tide you over whilst the hungry young ones come through and are able to start every week. What you don't do is have a team of 90% young hungry inexperienced players completely out of their depth who can only learn by having their arses handed to them week in week out.
  8. 1) Target two midfielders - one an experienced loan player (in the mould of Barry or Parker) and one probably foreign creative midfielder around the 5-7 mil bracket 2) Sign an experienced defender - either on loan to cover Okore or perm to add a bit more to the squad 3) Decide what my best team and tactics is/are 4) Use those more than once even if we lose so as to build up continuity 5) Give fringe youth players a substitute appearance at least 6) Give Gardener and Helenius a chance 7) Play Bowery or sell him so another more worthwhile players gets a chance 8) Ban all floaty set pieces 9) Tell Tonev not to shoot on site Flog Benteke for 30 mil to raise funds to sign some decent players
  9. ha ha although you know if he did he would fupping score the winner via six rebounds and a magic swan that had wandered onto the pitch
  10. I now shudder when I see Herd, Baker and Luna on anyone's team sheet. If we could outscore the opposition through our on form attack like last season it wouldn't be as much of an issue. The secret is out on Luna, every team that plays us when he is playing focuses their attacks on his side. Lowton could have taken the day off vs Manure. Whoever plays to the left of the midfield needs to double up to give the poor guy a chance.
  11. This may sound strange but I would like to hear Lambert actually acknowledge and address issues and weaknesses in his squad and tactics, rather than rolling out the same old tired 'young, hungry players - we go again, we're improving' style guff. If he just said - 'The fans deserve better than they football we are playing, and we can perform better and it's my job to get the lads playing better' then that would be a start. Also it would be nice for him to say that we need a stronger midfield and he is looking at options in that department. I know you don't want to give other teams clues as to what you are planning, but sometimes a bit of honest goes a long way. At least if we know that Lambert understands the issues that we recognise as fans, then there is platform to start improving. Whereas presently his post match comments are pretty inconclusive, i respect him for not criticising players publically but you don't get the impression he is worried by our form, random tactics, and low standard of football at all.
  12. well............ not exaggerated, but in the context that Lambert has proven he can set us up to play some really hi-octane attacking football - maybe it is a bit too overstated. I have to say though we are nearly at McCleish levels of performance based on the last 6 games, so it is a little alarming. Luck, consistency, players coming back into form or from injury can easily change that.
  13. I would play Bacuna where Sylla is, but aside from that not a bad shout.
  14. Stature is at a minimum? You do know we signed several global deals this year to show exclusive AVTV coverage, games and so on in several different countries? I was aware thank you, but not sure forcing AVTV on people in other countries will change our stature. Football is a results business, football is about having players that are icons and idols, talent that generates it's own PR. Allowing more countries a tailored window into how bad we are........ genius
  15. It's not about living in London, anyone anywhere in the country or world even would tell you the same - our stature/interest as a club is at a minimum. Style of play is a weird argument, since Lambert has been at the club I have seen us play so many different ways and to so many varying degrees of success and yet each game I have no idea how we will line up or what tactics we will play. Now if i feel like this then imagine how the players must feel, no wonder many of them don't know what they are doing out on the pitch. We spent most of last season building our game around Gabby, Tekkers and Weimann, now all three are playing varying degrees of bad - we are utterly lost. And now because of the loss of Vlaar we can only compensate by packing the midfield or square pegs in round holes, utterly farcical. The loss of one player should not have this affect. Albrighton came back and did well, now it's time for Gardener or Donacien to be given a go, I don't think either could be worse than what we have now.
  16. So does anyone think in January we will be trying to actually make worthwhile signings or just more scratching around for bargains. Is the cost cutting over? Will it ever be over? I am not for reckless spending, but if we don't balance our youthful transfer policy with the occasional high profile higher cost transfer gamble then we will be permanently flirting with relegation every season.
  17. I think we are all so jaded after years of uncertainty and bad managerial moves terrible board decisions, awful transfers. The MON years had plenty of problems and were responsible for what followed, but we had hope, we had fast paced attacking players, we had Young, Carew, Milner, Petrov, Downing all playing some amazing football. We had hope, we got to finals and semi-finals and Europe. Now we have........ young hungry inexperienced players, many of whom have learnt a great deal from having their arses handed to them and nearly getting us relegated but also become real solid Premiership players in Lambert's tenure, but many who are very average in a squad with no depth whatsover. Tactically when things just don't go right - with poor form and injuries you just feel Lambert struggles to adjust the team and tactics. How long did it take him to drop Weimann this season? He only dropped Benteke once and it made no difference He dropped Lowton for way too long and put out teams with no width whatsoever and hours and hours of hoof ball. There are lots of positives i am missing, but i just see a bunch of players who most of the time don't seem to know what they are doing or who they should pass to, there are no leaders on the pitch, no voices, just a group of headless chickens who work hard and never give in.
  18. I would not go that far. Let's see where we are come 1st January. I think we will overcome this bad form. We also need some fortune regarding injuries. we were crap before the injuries though, just not as terrible defensively
  19. I think Clark has looked fine. Bacuna has also had some really strong games at right back. I can't recall Baker having one good game, which is a shame as last season he was our lion hearted no nonsense defender who gave his all. Luna also has mostly been terrible defensively. We don't know how good Okore would be if fit - but he was looking extremely promising. This is Vlaar's best season in a Villa shirt so far. Every Manure attack went down the right so no idea how good Lowton was today - but hopefully he's going to get a run. Herd looks like a lower division work horse with no footballing brain whatsover, Lichaj was better. I don't get why he is still at the club. I hope he proves me wrong though. I think when we have everyone back fit and playing ok - we have the ability to compete with the mid to lower level clubs, but will always get turned over by the top clubs and anyone who plays us at home. As soon as we get a few injuries we fall apart and descend into relegation fodder. Vlaar being injured should not mean we get rolled as easy as this.
  20. I think we played well vs Arsenal and Chelsea and then the occasional 45 mins such as against West Brom or Cardiff. The rest of the time we have been dire. Even when we beat Man City and Southampton we were dog dirt.
  21. Ok so we can say that Lambert hasn't had the funds and backing yet - and had a hard remit to cut down the wage bill. So lets take a look at that - has the bomb squad approach really worked? Or has it just meant we have ruined numerous reputations and careers whilst still paying the majority of those wages? We still have Hutton on full wages doing nothing - with no route back into the team. Should we not have waited for Given to go before buying Steer? We've until very recently had to pay Given's wages in full - and even now I bet Boro and even Swansea if he goes there pay about 5% of what he is on. We are still paying for Ireland to rediscover his form at Stoke - and lets be honest he has been one of their best players in the last 4 games. My feeling about him is that he had ability, rarely showed it but was no worse than any other midfielder we had. Bent's career has nose dived completely and his wages remain high but I imagine still mainly paid by us, whilst his value is now simply f*ck all. But Jordan Bowery was a much better option obviously. Also Lambert would have bombed Zog out also and we would be paying his wages now - while he was on loan and Doncaster or some such bollocks. Instead of just being injured. Kozak was a random signing, again one we should have maybe made after Tekkers had gone. Not a bad player - but again what is the point in having Bowery? Plus out of all our summer signings he was the most expensive, ok so 4m isn't much - but when we were crying out for creative midfielder it is a bit unnecessary. Bacuna for less than a million is a bargain, even if he has been incredibly erratic of late. Luna is no better defensively than Bennett, but to be fair Bennett always had more supporting cover. Helenius and Tonev are two gambles we just could do with out. We can't keep on punting money up the wall on cheap players and cheap wages, because the quality of those signings shows and their costs soon adds up. But ultimately it is the way Lambert sets up the team that I am not a fan off, every match it is slightly different yet no better tactically than the last. Yes he is being let down by players being out of form and by injuries, but the team we have now and the way we play is all down to him, he has had enough time and enough money to spend to make us into something less awful than this.
  22. Guzan: 5 - beaten at his near post Lowton: 5 - has stopped getting fwd as much, better than Bacuna though Baker: 3 - gets worse each game Clark: 5 - average but not dreadful Luna: 3 - you'd be better off with a furby at left back - needs more midfield protection though Sylla: 4 - Useless most of the time Westwood: 5 - Gave it a good go KEA: 5 - Also worked hard Albrighton: 7 - best player by a mile, ran, crossed and attacked Gabby: 5 - Industry but no end product Benteke: 0 - On this form there is just no point him being on the pitch Subs all 4.
  23. New chant: We're young we're hungry we cost **** all la la la la
