I find it strange that Lambert would be stupid enough to think Norwich would sell Hoolahan, considering the nature of his managerial exit there and the impending tribunal for Steer. Both things pretty much destroyed any hope of going back to his old club for any further players. Every loan player we have been linked to we know would be on ridiculous wages, none of the big clubs will subsidise wages anymore and do other clubs favours - and can you blame them? Those sort of transfers usually happen on deadline day when those clubs have brought in better/preferred players. If we are pissing in the wind with budget signings from lower leagues - then nothing is going to change.

Hoolahan will as for me this is probably his only chance to move to a big club which we still are We might have the history but as things stand today we are not a big club. We've been battling relegation the past four seasons yep and ridiculously we are no better than Norwich. I bet all this move does is ensure Hoolahan gets a contract extension and starting place back. Norwich would rather get bummed in the face by the ghost of Jimmy Saville than sell to us.

My theory on this is that with Lichaj we knew we had a player that wasn't good enough. Bennett was highly thought of at Boro IIRC, no idea on Luna as I've never seen him play prior to Villa. I believe Lambert gambled that both Bennett and Luna's ceiling was to be higher than the proven low ceiling with Lichaj and Stevens. It hasn't worked thus far, but if you saw Joe Bennett play at Boro you'd probably agree it would be a punt worth taking. Much in the same vein as people talking up Forest and Derby players today. The funny thing is that technically Bennett is actually a very good player...... well ok...... that might be an overstatement but he's certainly better than most of our players, the problem is he can't defend. But towards the end of last season he certainly look like he was improving. I think he and Luna can and will improve, it's just the fact we can't afford to take risks with defenders like this. Experience at the back is a luxury we have to afford.

people have posted that Defour has third party ownership, to get everyone who owns a piece of him paid off and all the agents backers and other filth leeching off the game - Villa would have to lay out a huge whack. not sure about wages but i can't imagine he would be cheap either. Also there are bigger clubs who would be interested, ones that probably play a decent style of football and not suffering PR disasters currently. if you were a player right now would you want to come to us for anything less than a huge payday? Most of us including me still view this great club like we did growing up, a club that will always have major ups and downs but always tries to play decent football and on it's day can compete with most clubs and always looked good in the cup competitions. Now we are a bottom feeding club, grounded by poor management at all levels, average playing staff and decision after decision that keeps damaging the club and the fans. I thought the Lambert era would bring hope to the club, make us plucky underdogs who tried to play good football and gave our all, yet all I now see is a club at odds with how football should be played and how a club should be run.
