  1. Athletic are such a unique club in modern top-level football that it definitely creates an added layer of difficultly when trying to sign a player from them.
  2. Nico met and listened to Emery last week, but he prioritizes staying in Bilbao over signing for Aston Villa. Athletic continues working on its renewal. The market is long and everything could change if a giant from Europe comes into play.
  3. Yeah, Matteo Moretto has. He seems to be one of the very, very few out of Spain that is reliable for this kind of thing.
  4. According to their now departing Sporting Director, Norwich turned down £20+ million for Omobamidele in January and are resigned to losing him this summer. Getting linked to Milan and the likes.
  5. Some people do follow and know about many aspects of the sport to be fair. Or maybe everyone is a liar.
  6. I think we might be getting the famous Monchi(s).
  7. He's still a Villa player until the 30th of this month.
  8. Matteo Moretto - who is actually credible - has said he's Villa's main target.
  9. The links in January were quite concrete so it makes sense that we'd be in for him again, though I do get you that there hasn't been anything too credible so far. VT's general approach to transfer speculation though seems to be if you want the player + the link is spurious = it'shappening.gif, and if you don't want the player + the report is from someone credible = "we're not interested, they're talking rubbish".
  10. Interesting that he's the only out-and-out striker in the squad.
  11. People keep throwing the £50m figure around but the only semi-concrete mention of it I've seen is an article saying that they would have to accept much less than that now that they've been relegated.
  12. Said it previously but I think the likes of Chelsea absolutely will be interested but it'll end up working in our favour that there's younger, cheaper and also quality options out there for these sides. The likes of Onana, Maignan, Raya etc are more available than Martinez will be for varying reasons and aren't exactly massive downgrades on him.
  13. No doubt his time at Roma was disastrous but at the same time that's one strike against his name vs many good points. It's a bit like getting hung up on Emery's time in Russia. I remember listening to European football podcasts years ago and his name was almost synonymous with the DOF/sporting director role such was his success, considering how much mythologising I've heard of him over the years if I'm finding it a bit mad he's now ending up at Villa. Certainly some interesting changes starting to occur, but as I've been given no reason not to thus far I'm trusting Emery on this one.
  14. It's certainly an interesting one. It seems that there is being an enormous amount of trust and responsibility being placed upon Emery, which any fan would agree he's earned but as you say things can change at the drop of a hat and it seems quite a precarious position to be left in if they did.
  15. Just re: folk talking about his replacement - Evans says there isn't one and that he's left because there isn't a need for a CEO in the structure Villa are going for now. Chris Heck is going to oversee all of the off-field stuff from revenue streams to "globalising the brand", while NSWE and Emery's team - which they're keen to add Monchi to - are on top of footballing matters.
  16. About to grab myself an industrial-sized popcorn and get no work done today reading this thread.
  17. This forum is made up of (mostly) Villa fans and there is mass disagreement between us all every day, yet folk will post up random comments from fans of other teams as if the same logic doesn't apply and they all have the same shared opinions. Never got it myself.
  18. But other teams wanted him?????
  19. Great signing this. Shout out to Gregg Evans as well, the guy evidently knows his stuff.
  20. Thanks for that dad, let us know who we can speak about next.
  21. Not exactly a reject if he's one of their best players is he.
  22. Yeah, he said Germany was looking likely for him rather than outright state he was moving to Dortmund. Which possibly was the case only for Chelsea to come in with an extortionate/better offer as they did with several players across the two windows such as Cucurella and Mudryk, despite them being close to going to other clubs previously. Not particularly inconceivable or proof of him being some kind of spoofer.
