  1. There was a lad in the 80's called Lee Jenkinbs who had more ability than Gary Shaw but didn't have the desire . Shaw did and made it I hope Delfounso does but the signs aint good . Albrighton has the desire in abundance and has over took him big time Gary Gardner when he recovers will be next major breakthrough I find it disgusting that some people can't motivate themselves enough to play for a Premier League football team. How's Weimann by the way MM? 4 months unfortunately but another who they rate very highly and had taken over in the pecking order . I don't know for a fact but I think somethink happened during the summer for them to have a downer on Delfounso . That's disappointing, about Weimann. I think I remember you saying about him looking good and I wanted more than anything to see him prove it in the first time. Such a shame about him and the Rapid game. Cheers for the info mate.

  3. That's a real shame. It seems like he has so much natural ability.
  4. Link Did you write that? Or it a really shit joke, or something seeing as there is no link provided? Looks like a 7-year-old wrote it.
  5. I've been excited about Houllier for a good while, even defending him against some harsh criticisms from friends and family, but this? This is going to be hard to defend. Especially as it's royally pissed me off too! How dare he refer to us as a mid-table club. rocket polisher.
  6. Let's keep it to welcomes and thoughts on what he can bring to us before it descends into madness. :winkold:
  7. With Gérard Houllier's appointment set to be announced some time within the next few days, it seemed like a good idea to give him his own thread to discuss what we think he can bring to this club and how he can bring our team forward. While at first I was a little sceptical when his name was first linked to the managerial vacancy, after some deliberation, research into his previous work and a look into some of the time he spends with the club off the pitch I've come round to the point where I think Houllier could be a really solid manager for us. We've been crying out for a little experimentation in the transfer market for a good 4 years now and this is something he will definitely bring. Whilst not every signing will turn out how we hope, if he can unearth another Hyppia or Hamann then I for one will be bloody delighted. After being (seemingly) restricted to scouting within the UK this will be a welcome change. Let's not forget the amount of trophies GH has won in his career. When he does take over I think I'm right in saying that he'll be one of the most previously successful managers in the history of AVFC and this can only be a good thing. Not only for the future of our team and our prospects of bringing home some much needed silverware, but in the eyes of other players as we may see a little more respect given to us. It'll be a good idea to keep our thoughts in here, rather than trawl through 600+ pages to pick out opinions on our new boss. Welcome to Villa Park, Gérard. If you treat us with respect, you'll be given it back tenfold. UTV.
  8. Are you sure you havent just read newsnow?? or any other credible news source ? Not at all mate. I got the text around 5pm tonight whilst I was still at work. I asked my mate how he knew and he just replied with "from my contact in France". I did see on central news that it is likely to be announced tomorrow but it mentioned nothing about a 2 year deal. For the record, i am not trying to sound in the know or anything. I am merely saying what I received via text from a mate earlier today. He's having you on mate. The exact same story was on SSN at about 4:30 It was reported in L'equipe the French newspaper.
  9. So he resigned from Sky for nothing? Do you think it was all some sort of practical joke played on him? Stelling ringing him up and putting on a fake french accent, perhaps, "Oh, Phil, would you like to come back in to management with me at Villa? Okay you are in but you need to resign from Sky first." Where has it been said that he resigned from Sky, then?
  10. Stick your neck on the line why don't you! :winkold:
  11. Surprised no one has really mentioned what was on SSN a second ago. They said that whilst Houllier WOULD be going to Villa, Phil Thompson would NOT be coming. For all the people that didn't want him and were ranting and raving over his bias toward the red half of Merseyside, I thought that a lot more people would be delighted by this!
  12. I'll be really happy if GH is the man to take over from MON. After looking back over his career at Liverpool, he certainly had a good time of it there and I think the Liverpool fans that have complained about him are being incredibly selective of their memories of him. Seems like post-op he just wasn't the same man. He sorted his problems out and returned to good health and went on to win two consecutive league titles in France! We musn't forget that these honours aren't from yesteryear - they are all within the last 10 years. Anyone who sees this as a bad move needs their head checking. Not only was he clearly succesfull at his last two clubs but his scouting network and contacts will be far superior to MON's and, as mentioned above by another user, because of being a far more recognized name than MON, he'll be able to attract far better players from abroad. Very happy man. Sign him up quick so he can prepare for Stoke. UTV.
  13. Whoever comes in, I just hope they listen to KMac and give players like Albrighton, Weimann, Delfouneso, Clark, Bannan and Lichaj a chance this season.
  14. Jason Mcateer has just been on SSN talking about Houllier and what the players at Villa would be in for, should he be appointed. Essentially stating that Houllier's approach is in direct contrast with that of O'Neill's and that he wouldn't be as hands on with the players and perhaps not as approachable as MON. He also said something along the lines of going out onto the football pitch already knowing his team won't be beaten and that they would be told to play offensively. Interestingly, Houllier's supposed attitude could work well with KMac if he was head coach, as he could be the one that WOULD be hands on and approachable. I'm sure the structure written about in papers could work and despite being a little bit unsure of it, I don't expect RL to do anything too rash as it may hinder the progress of what is essentially his investment.
  15. I'm a quarter Irish myself, but I'll admit to not really paying too much attention to their national team. Was Staunton in any way comparable to Mclaren in his England reign?
  16. Whose english? Surely you dont mean Houllier? The journalist, mate.
  17. I called it 8) ^ page 299! I read it the first time you wrote it, and I've still noticed no decline in his height.
  18. Looks like it Houllier then. That article in the Daily Mail seemed pretty certain of it.
  19. He best get out on the rob again if he's short this month!
  20. Yeah James Beattie's Wiki got changed by someone and he turned out to be a real coup. Just look back at all the legendary performances he put in. :winkold:
  21. Yeah, I wasn't hinting that it wasn't real BTW mate, I'm pretty sure I read his Wiki page and it said he was over 9 feet anyway.
