  1. Good player, great servant. Can't help watching the video with a bit of disappointment - Barry, Young, Milner, Laursen, Mellberg, Downing. But then you spot Harewood, and remember it wasn't all perfect!
  2. We all think that fan support is very important on matchday, but how important is ticket money to the club? For example - if a ST costs £500, and (assuming) we have been paying Beye £40k a week (plus the usual on-costs), bringing that up to about £45k a week of costs - we spend the money of 4,680 STs per season on him! Adding a company car, if 5,000 people don't renew, we can't have Habib Beye! I know it may be an odd way of looking at it (I am an Accountant), but losing a few thousand ST holders is relatively small in the clubs turnover, and the publicity may lead to more Sky games - making up for the loss (seen Blackburn on the box recently?). If you think the club don't care about you - perhaps your right, and perhaps it's because they don't acutally need to!
  3. I have been abroad so haven't had a ST for a few years. When I knew I was moving back home about 2 years ago, I was starting to drop hints to the wife that a ST may be a good thing. Bought a house last July. I've just joined a golf club instead - at least my weekends are shit because of my own incompetence!
  4. I love signings like this (although we shouldn't only make signings like this!). Comes from abscruity of sorts, so has a degree of love for the club. Not expensive, so well worth a punt.
  5. No He's done little, and there's little he could have done. Meeting the fans is a good start, but it hasn't banked anything like enough goodwill to get 'approval'
  6. I'd take him, but the figures quoted are mad, and probably bollocks. Absolute max of £2m for me, and he can get a pay off from Man C on his contract, so realistic salary too. I'd love to get a good young keeper, but so would Chelsea, Spuds, and Liverpool (Man Utd, Citeh and Aresenal have got them). For me, Robinson and Foster are fine, but nothing special and Lewis hasn't seemed to kick on at Posh, otherwise he would have been snapped up. Someone like Given, with the plan of developing Parrish or Seigreist ain't a bad call.
  7. It's a nice to have, but not a must have. There are many more important factors.
  8. Hi General I have a few issues with the talks with McLeish: 1. McLeish does not have a sufficiently good track record to be considered for the role in my opinion. Winning trophies in Scotland's 2 horse race is not that impressive (anyone want Strachan or Walter Smith?), although he did get to a UEFA cup final; he did little with Scotland outside of a win in France against a team in freefall; he got SHA relegated twice, but got a lucky winner at Wembley after having had home draws all the way to the final. Not a lot of positives, and a few negatives. 2. He plays terrrible football - I can remember not bothering to watch Rangers in Europe, and just looking at the results becuase the games were simply awful, and a lot of commentators made comments about the ultra-defensive style he employed. Plus the SHA fans used to moan about it all the time. 3. He has managed THEM. In business, this would not be a huge issue in most circumstances, but in football it is. Owners of many clubs take their supporters for granted, because football is not like a normal business. Do not forget just how little logic will be applied by our supporters in some circumstances. Iit seems that by even talking to the man (which in business would be very normal in a recruitment process), the board have 'lost' a lot of support. If you appoint him - I really fear that some positions will become untenable - which is a shame because Randy, yourself and others have done so much for the club Regards, and UTV
  9. General It is pretty clear that whichever (realistic) appointment is made, some people would be happy and other will not. Like everyone else, I have my own list of preferences. Realistically though, all I ask is that we continue to conduct ourselves properly, and make an appointment in line with the plans for the club as soon as is possible. Following this, I think that the club should state exactly what those plans are. If this does not include investing heavily on players for the next 12 months or 10 years - the club should tell us. We won't like it, but it won't change the facts. You, Randy and everyone else must know that you cannot keep everyone happy. Keep up the great work and UTV.
  10. I am so **** happy - watch' the ingrates cry their hearts out on worldwide TV is priceless. Agents Ridgwell, Gardner, Davies, Fahey and Phillips: Thank you. Your sacrifice will not be forgotten.
  11. The man is a nut-case. He might, one day, turn out to be a genius, but what is the liklihood, and at what cost. Ship him out, and off the wage bill as soon as possible.
  12. I like this. If Heskey is playing, one of them might deflect one of his shots on target!
  13. In this paragraph you have put across a strength of feeling that GH simply does not have for this club. Perhaps you should visit the dresing room before the games? Our last home game is against Liverpool. We may have to win it to stay up. Can the club seriously consider the allowing the potential scenario whereby we are relegated by a team whom our manager loves more than our own? I like to think that Villa fans are generally good people, but I fear serious trouble at this game if things pan out as they could. The fans HATE Houllier, and these emotions could overspill into something more at home across the City. And that would be bad for everyone.
  14. General, I am sure that you do not only read your threads on the various sites, and will have picked the strength of feeling on other threads about GH. Surely there is the need, given the 2 week break, for a senior person at the club to make a statement on GH's future because the uncertainty, if that is what remains, will be counter-productive to our current crisis. Thanks for your hard work, and for communicating with the fans. I am sure that it seems like a thankless task, but I can promise you, it is very much appreciated.
  15. 100% agree with point 1. 10000000% disagree with point 2!
  16. He's not 20 until next month, so an U21 call up is a good achievement. Well done to the lad.
  17. this guy is quality, and should play for us for the next 15 years
  18. He will be a quality centre half, and is quite comfortable on the ball and his distribution is pretty good, and will improve. He needs to builk up a bit, but he is young and people get the 'man strength' at different times.
  19. 1. MON - he left us in the shit, with poor players earning a fortune 2. GH - he just ain't got it anymore 3. Players - there are some who appear to not be helping the club out whilst earning a fortune 4. Randy - a small amount of blame, as there was no succession planning, and he hasn't taken control in the current situation; but who could have done more for us over recent years?
  20. Limited options this month, but got things wrong both in terms of personel and tactics
  21. This is a good thing. We needed experience at the top, given the lack of football experience at board level and with the lack of managerial experience of our (excellent) coaches. He is respected within the game, and will ensure that the Villa name is well regarded in football circles. And he is a good manager in my opinion.
