    We'll there is competition now. Carlos can play with any of Mings, Konsa or Chambers. So whoever is playing best will partner him. Mings and Carlos our the two best CBs at the club imo.

    With Kamara and Carlos among the top passers in the top 5 leagues you can take it as a given we'll return to Gerrard ball and building from the back. What Carlos is the best in the world at is switch plays, which are completed passes which travel 40 yards of the width of the pitch. He averages 3.8 of these per game. Digne and Cash are going to love this. Kamara is among the best at those too. So we'll see us playing from the back, we've two players who are press resistant and will look to beat high press with switch passes and passes that bypass the press. Mings will focus on defending which he's very good at. He's great at blocks, clearances, interceptions and he doesn't get dribbled past. Mings is also great at carrying the ball forward out of defence.

    I think Gerrard had rightly surmised we had very few players who had 3+ years of Premier League experience. No players who had learned senior top level football at other clubs. Crazy as it sounds we had only Danny Ings and Ashley Young in our squad with 3+ years experience of Premier League football experience or European football experience. Now we've got Ings, Young, Chambers, Coutinho, Digne, Carlos, maybe Suarez next as very experienced players. You add in McGinn, Mings, Martinez and we now have a new core group of senior experienced professionals and that should stand us in good stead in those crunch moments. Toughen us up and mental strength. Kamara has played 28 games in Europe at 22yo. So he is experienced for his age too

    I think with the two 10s you need a player like Suarez who knows where to be, anticipates passes etc.. we see how well Ings links up with Buendia, because he has that poachers brain and the way he thinks. Watkins doesn't have that

    I'm seeing a clear plan to not block the pathways for these players. I can see Kamara + Tim being our CDM options in a years time with Naka moving on. I see KKH battling with Cash for Right back. If we sign Bassey that's a fight for LB or LCB there with Digne / Mings. Archer up top learning from say Suarez and being a regular in a years time. The pathways for these players are not blocked

    All signings are calculated risks. We buy young talent "hoping" they mature and improve into top quality players. I don't think signing Coutinho or Carlos on 4 year deals puts any manager in a difficult situation unless the players themselves fail. Yeah maybe Coutinho might be past his best in the last year of his contract but Carlos will be 29, 30, 31 and 32 in his 4 seasons here as a CB. Total peak years. Also wage infation is so big that 125k we pay Coutinho will be considered not very big in 3 years time

    At Villa we've Archer, Chukwuemeka, Iroegbunam, Ramsey, KKH and maybe JPB/Barry as young 21 or younger prospects

    Whatever metric you want to use Villa are either 4th, 5th or 6th in youngest squad last season. That is after our January signings. Now next season you'll see Archer, Kamara and KKH added to the squad. You'll see older players like AEG, Trezeguet, Sanson etc.. depart. We could be signing Bassey who's 22.

    Villa fans are still stuck in the past where you have like 13 or 14 first team players and another 6 or 7 back ups. Gerrard has stated he wants two players for every position. So we have signed Diego Carlos and one CB will leave. We all know it will be Hause yet we keep saying Mings. Hause is back up player level, Mings is first team competition level player

    Benezema isn't even a year younger than him. Decline from a high level doesn't mean you can't contribute. Look at Ibra when he joined United, or Ronaldo

    Like coming on a free on a 1 year contract would cost us £7-8m. That's nothing for what he could bring to us. He can make an impact off the bench at a minimum that's for sure

    If we can land Suarez I then assume we now focus on shifting players on. Then we look at further additions. Targett, Traore, Sanson, Luis seem the 4 we need to shift to bring in some proper money.

    The sight of Luis Suarez coming off the bench to get us a winner will give me goosebumps. Also the draw and pull we will have with players like this at the Club. Will be brilliant for clubs profile

    They need at least 4 central midfielders for the system they play and number games they'll have. Hojberg, Bentancur, Skipp and 19yo Sarr. They need another signing in there and Bissouma would fit the bill perfectly for them.

    Bissouma will be off to Spurs. I think the 8 who comes in will be an experienced senior player who is bought into the project and doesn't need to start every week.

    If Buendia and Coutinho could chip in with more goals it would be great. I hope they develop an understanding and partnership in summer. People said Ings and Watkins couldn't play together and that was proven wrong. It'll be the same with Coutinho and Buendia, especially as they both seem good mates off the pitch too.

    Yeah I think we need four 8's, so JJ, McGinn and two more. I think Chuk will be counted as one of the 10s as in we've 3 and he'll be the 4th in terms of squad depth. So if we lose Luiz and Sanson we'll probably need 2 more players coming in. I'd love Luiz to sign a new deal but we all know it doesn't seem like it'll happen

    However, I do believe he'll join Spurs over us for sure. They have Champions League football to offer. I'm just very happy the two key positions we needed sorted have been done. Elite passing CDM, and elite passing CB

    I'm worried we need to move on players now before we can sign anyone. So Luiz to Roma needs to be done before we press ahead with Bissouma. Similarly Targett sold to Fulham before we pursue Bassey.

    You have to expect the CB who gets on the ball as much and makes as many passes as Diego to have more errors leading to shots than a CB who smashes the ball out of play and doesn't take responsibility to play the ball out of defence.

    When you have two right footed CBs one of them has to play on the left. A right footed CB will prefer to play on right side of defence as that's naturally where suits them best. It's great that Carlos can play either side of defence as it means he can replace Hause position in our squad and we have 1 LCB, 2RCB and Carlos who can play either. It makes absolutely no sense to sell our Club Captain as he has been the best CB at the club for years now. Costa + Mings is the best partnership we can field. I thik what Carlos brings now is open competition for places including Mings. I see McGinn becoming club captain.
