  1. Well my father advised me that I should follow small heath, and I disagreed with him, and suggested that he resembled the female reproductive organs. I told him that I disliked small heath, and I was sure of it, and so where they. I told him that with players like Nigel Spink, Paul Birch and Alan McInally, we were on the right path, and that if he followed small heath, it was likely that his parents were unmarried when he was born, and that I no longer wished to associate with him.
  2. Has this got anything to do with the large Irish community in Birmingham? I've got Birmingham based Irish relatives (through marriage), and they're all Villa. I've got some Irish blood in me too, but that's going back 3 or 4 generations.
  3. Grew up in Erdington, in a Villa obsessed family. There was only ever going to be one out come. The first topic of conversation with any of the male members of my family, is how the Villa are getting on.
  4. And who did they have debating that? Footballing / broadcasting giants such as Micky Quinn, Ray Parlour, Jason Cundy, Darren Gough, or Ronni Irani? Darren Gough and Adrian Durham.

  6. Just back from the second of three gigs in six days. Half Man Half Biscuit in Stockton, Great gig, really enjoyed it. On to Neil Young on Monday for the hat-trick.
  7. Huge Pixies fan that I am, WIMM? is probably my least favourite song by them. I used to love it, but it just gets played to death. Similar to Smells Like Teen Spirit & Nirvana I suppose.
  8. Didn't even realise Earth were touring! Where are they playing, Chris? Saw them at a festival a year or so back, and they were excellent. Mostly played the more mellow stuff, rather than the doom that they used to play. Angels of Darkness, Demons of Light II was one of my albums of the year, last year. Went to see Mudnhoney last night, but ended up not seeing any of their set, as I went home with bad guts! Absolutely gutted! That said, I did get to see the Meat Puppets, who were supporting them. They were bloody awesome! The band that were on before them, Metz, on the other hand, were terrible. If they were called the Shitty Beatles, it wouldn't just be a clever name. I think we're talking different bands here. 'The Earth' are a new band having their first gig to launch their first album. They are a sort of Welsh Swpergrwp, being the drummer from Super Furries, guitar from Catatonia and vocals from The Peth. There's a link to a download in the new music thread. Ah right, fair dos. No wonder I couldn't find any dates for them on line!

  10. I like Ing-er-land, Ing-er-land, Ing-er-land.... But yeah, World In Motion. When I used to DJ at Uni, I upset my Welsh and Irish housemates by playing World In Motion at the end of the night, at one gig I did at our SU bar. My Welsh housemate didn't speak to me for a week! It went down very well with the rest of crowd though.
  11. In the past I've considered who I'd follow, if I decided to follow football in other countries. I'd probably go for teams, from cities that are twinned with Birmingham. Birmingham has six twin cities. They are Chicago (Chicago Fire), Frankfurt (Eintracht Frankfurt), Leipzig (FC Lokomotive Leipzig), Johannesburg (Moroka Swallows), Lyon (Olympique Lyonnais) and Milan (Inter Milan).
  12. Only Villa for me, and when the mood suits, I give a shit about England. I have a passing interest in Darlington, as they are local to where I live (been to a few games, some times look out of their scores), and I occasionally have a look to see how Inverness Caledonian Thistle are getting on (although I didn't even realise they were still in the SPL).
  13. Not sure if they've been mentioned, but a few decent shouts: Clerks Mallrats Groundhog Day Trainspotting Leon Boyz In The Hood Schindler's List
  14. After the documentary about him, that was on Friday, I've been on a Otis trip all weekend. It's heartbreaking that this amazing performance was to be his last. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pmFHrZAmnAE
  15. To be honest though you could apply that logic to the 50's, 60's, 70's and 80's. After that well the only changes were mainly political, the 90's is when music began to eat itself in terms of diversion I don't disagree with what you're saying, but I think there is a special aura around 60s music. Music was entwined in a cultural revolution, and began to expand beyond the more conventional music that presided it (not to dismiss what came before it, I must add). The decade seemed to bring an explosion of new music, and sounds that had not been considered in popular music before. As per my earlier post, my favourite decade is a toss up between the 70s and 80s, but I think the 60s is probably the most important decade for music, as it set the foundations of popular music as we know it (again with the up most respect for the music that was an influence on it) .
  16. Watching The Stax Vault Revue from 1967, on BBC4, and thinking how amazing it would have been to see Otis, Sam & Dave, Wilson Picket, The Mar-Keys, Booker T & The MGs, etc all on the same bill. Can't forget that the 60s were an amazing time for music, and changed the game.
  17. Hmmm, I want to say 70s, as it was fairly diverse, and there were many many great artists producing their best work. Rock, Soul, Funk, Punk, Folk, Reggae, Disco, etc produced some amazing music during the 70s, so I'd probably give it the edge. On a selfish note, I'd for 80s as that's when a lot of my favourite bands became active. Alt Rock, Punk, New Wave, Hardcore, Indie, Hip Hop & Dance music all flourished in the 80s. As others have said though, It's hard to pin down music to a decade. Good music goes beyond time.

  19. Damn it, that's a good one! I should have thought of that!
  20. Man, turns out I've watched a lot of TV! Ah well, one more...
