  1. see, i might agree with that if the situation was similar to the hillsborough/anti-sun campaigns that liverpool have done in the past, but those campaigns were already widely known and had specific songs/banners that could be chanted/unfurled at the appropriate time (e.g. i think they did something on a bbc televised game a few years back around the 5 minute mark) with this, all i can see happening is a fair few standing and clapping, a sizeable proportion being confused as to what is going on and a brief mention by sky so i am not convinced it will do much for the campaign, meaning a minutes silence would be far more appropriate imo
  2. minutes applause doesn't feel an appropriate way to remember the murder of 21 people and the maiming of over 200 in Birmingham pubs to me should be a minutes silence or nothing imo, but sounds like the twatter brigade have hijacked the issue and seem set on the applause
  3. no better or worse than anywhere else in the league (maybe Crystal Palace)
  4. Made his debut for Roma on the day Matic of Chelsea was born. Staggering. Can't be right surely??
  5. we beat them at villa park twice in 1998 so the stat is wrong albeit they had already won the league and rested a couple of players in our first win over them in 1998 (though we did have only 10 men for most of the game which cancels that out)
  6. Sky tv games have been announced, liverpool and qpr away have been moved, man city, southampton and tottenham at home as well probably get pissed around for another couple of games once BT announce there games too
  7. Bradford was an absolute disgrace the majority of these other cup shocks people are referring too were not over two legs against teams from 3 divisions below
  8. I agree totally with you. The fans are not responsible for the clubs demise. They are however responsible for the current negative attitude towards Paul Lambert out of their sheer frustration & that is my point. This negative attitude does not help the club one bit. Surely fans can see this? Why even deny it? It doesnt help the club but i dont think it harms it either in truth. The harm is being done by the out-of-his-depth manager, out-of-their-depth players and absent owner the fans being fully behind the players and manager for the past 2 years has hardly reaped any benefits anyway, as you like to have the last say on most matters and i don't have all day to discuss, that is my last contribution as no doubt you will respond with a cretinous 'joke', the 'take a bow' bollox or some other silliness
  9. The fans are not to blame for the shite we are currently in The blame lies with the piss-poor manager, piss-poor players and piss-poor owner at the club. If we go down, these three elements of the club will be to blame, NOT the fans The clubs is a mess and hopefully there are wholesale changes in the summer in all 3 areas if we are to avoid yet another relegation fight next year (assuming we stay up this year of course)
  10. A company employs 500 staff on the NMW. So an increase of 19p an hour for one hour costs the company £95. Assume a standard 37 hour working week for all employees thats an extra £351,500 on the weekly wage bill. Across 52 weeks a year increases that companies wage bill by £18,278,000. That I would argue is not an irrelevant increase. not sure on the maths there
  11. dodged a bullet with Juninho, was nowhere near as good when he returned to the prem with Middlesbrough following his first spell although if the Vieri thing is true that's a bit of a knock
  12. wouldnt say we were unlucky personally - draw a fair result as they hit the woodwork twice, should have had a pen and a couple of other chances which is comparable to the couple of chances we had
  13. fair result they dominated the first half and were unlucky not to score (and should have had a penalty) we dominated the second half and should have scored cant remember the last time we played well for the whole or even the vast majority of a match (i.e. 60+ mins), Sunderland at home is the only one i can think of in 2 or 3 years to be fair
  14. 4 points down from last season on the comparison between equivalent fixtures I think
  15. He'll be demanding lamberts head again next
  16. The hardcore home support for 99% of all Teams in the uk is not loud enough I know that doesn't make things ok but it's just the way football is in this country these days Treat people like customers and they will act in that manner - the villa home support is no better or worse than 99% of other teams despite what some people on here would have you believe
  17. No doubt if we get relegated the fans will be at fault If it was about the fans as much as some would have you believe the league wouldn't have been dominated by the likes of man **** yoo, Chelsea and arsenal in the last 20 years And as for stoke being great fans at home; possibly forthw first couple of years in the prem. since then they have been as bad as everyone else
  18. probably worth adding that of our remaining fixtures, I don't think we actually won any of the corresponding fixtures last year (unless you take Reading (h) as a proxy for Hull (h)), so there is scope to improve the like-for-like comparison also west ham at home thinking about it
  19. This is off the top of my head so apologies and I hang my head in shame if there are inaccuracies; suggests we are -2 if relegated/promoted teams are included, level if they are excluded Arsenal +3 Chelsea 0 Liverpool 0 Newcastle 0 Norwich 0 Man City +3 Hull -2 (replacing the Reading away result as Reading finished 2nd bottom) Tottenham 0 Everton 0 West Ham +1 Cardiff +3 (replacing Wigan home result as Wigan finished 3rd bottom) West Brom 0 Sunderland -2 Southampton +3 Fulham 0 Man U 0 Stoke -3 Crystal Palace -3 (replacing QPR home result as QPR finished bottom) Swansea -2 Sunderland 0 Arsenal -1 Liverpool -2 Certainly not the only way or even possibly the best way of comparing results/points totals year on year, but it was being used earlier in the season by others I think
  20. cannot speak for anyone else but I don't think we were putting in "good performances but not picking up any points" last season - we were shite and picking up few points, then played a lot better in the last 3 months or so and started picking up more points as for the opposite happening this season - I think we have accumulated the same amount of points this year as in the corresponding fixtures last year (less if you use the results against promoted teams as proxies for results against relegated teams from last season) hopefully we can keep a comfortable distance between us and the bottom 3 both in terms of points and league position to prevent a 4th year of panic
  21. A couple of weeks after that fulham game was far more boring. Wimbledon away on a Sunday. On the tele anyway. Only 13 at the time so not even on the beer. Drew 0-0. Was around the time that season started going tits up following shearer (the dirty word removed) Finishing Ugo's season. Went from first to finishing below west ham in 4 months I think.
  22. Had a good first season and started the second season well alongside mellberg Then got injured abOut half way through before going to the world cup Then hardly played and was largely abysmal when he did play after the world cup Nowhere near the likes of Ugo and southgate overall
  23. At least you've stopped telling people to "take a bow" in every post. Hopefully the use of smileys will follow a similar pattern.
  24. compared to the corresponding fixtures last year i think we have accumulated the same amount of points (ignoring cardiff/hull/crystal palace; but if you throw these in using wigan (h), reading (a), qpr (h) as proxies we're actually down on points) meh hopefully just carry on picking up enough points here and there to avoid an anxious end to the season for the first time in 4 years
