  1. I actually wouldn't have thought it was New England but just guessed based on your own location and posting history
  2. North east US, New England area - Massachusetts, Maine etc.
  3. Anders Breivik copied vast chunks of the Unabomber manifesto, mostly just substituting the word 'multiculturalism' for 'leftist'.
  4. I believe we are the biggest city in Europe without an underground actually. It's part of the reason we have a comparatively large bus service. Unfortunately the buses don't really solve the problem. They're now going down the tram route and that won't solve it either.
  5. The council has been quite open about their plans to discourage car use in the city centre by making the roads harder to use. They has a website as part of the big town plan which basically said they planned to change the roads to encourage traffic jams with the aim of reducing cars coming into town. It's **** irritating. Especially when you love somewhere where the train isn't viable to get to work.
  6. Not really related but reminded me of my dad having a similar story. He used to work for the council housing department and occasionally was called out to assist with access to properties for various reasons. He was called out once to a property where some old fella was suspected to have died, so everyone was already on edge expecting something horrific to greet them when they opened the door. They weren't quite ready to discover the old bloke had died, but instead of the usual body on the floor/in bed, he'd collapsed on a portable fan heater, which had basically cooked part of the body. So not only had you got the smell of death in the house, it was mixed with the smell of cooked flesh, and rotten cooked meat. Apparently the scene outside was like something out of a movie, with 'the rookie' throwing up and everyone going in being warned to prepare themselves.
  7. Cage seems to deal with his origin, a little at least. Whether it's pre or post Jones I'm unsure... What they do after the Defenders is in the air I think. Daredevil series 3 is post Defenders, they are writing Jessica Jones 2 which is also post Defenders, and we've still got Iron Fist before Defenders to come. Cage series 2 was being mooted only yesterday, with Heroes for Hire being in the cards (which is the team Cage and Fist make as, well, Heroes for Hire...) which would be interesting, but that relies on the first series doing well. So who knows. The series so far have been quite different even with the edgier tone, Daredevil is an action adventure in the vein of Batman, Jessica Jones more of a thriller with heavy psychological elements, notably abuse themes. Cage is looking like an urban action series with the hip hop/Harlem culture thing. Iron Fist should be a mental martial arts revenge story. And the Defenders? So long as it isn't them versus the Hand it should be great. Because the Hand are shit. I want them fighting Taskmaster with the Hand as interchangeable minions to batter. Also post Defenders I want Moon Knight in a series. Crazy split personality Batman with ancient Egypt nonsense beating up everything from thugs to ghosts in his head in a kick ass white 3 piece suit and/or weird white hooded cowl/cape with gadgets needs to be made.
  8. Eddie v Conor could be a very interesting fight. Alvarez has been like a man possessed in his recent fights and he's happy to fight any fight he needs to - he's as happy brawling in a rock'em sock'em style as he is going more tactical. But he's absolutely beatable. There are better fighters at lightweight. So it's a good opportunity for Conor and I think the UFC know it.
  9. Probably not. I haven't seen it obviously but the Netflix shows have so far had fairly inconsequential cross overs - a recurring supporting character, and some references is about it. Luke is a supporting character in Jessica Jones but I doubt much that happens there will affect his solo show. Of course you should watch them anyway because they're great
  10. I'll be headed to the IMAX as well hopefully. I've no doubt it'll be seen as just another comic book movie by some, and it could well be. But I don't think that's a bad thing. There are good and bad ones, like any other genre. Marvel have been clever in using their characters to change the formula and pinch ideas from other genres - Cap 2 nicks the style of a 70s espionage thriller and pinches plot elements likewise, Ant-man takes comedy and heist ideas, etc etc, which mixes things up a bit each time. I don't doubt Dr Strange isn't going to be winning any Oscars but equally it looks like it might be one of the better examples of the genre, it's got a cracking cast, has some awesome visuals already (I'm a very big fan of the image of Strange 'pulling' the flaming whip from between his fingers - it literally looks like hes wrenching the fire from the air), and it's doing something a little different again - magic, other dimensions, spirituality - that we've not seen before, alongside some horror elements according to the director (who has more or less specialised in that field). My only concern right now is the villain. Mads is great so no concern there, but it's what they do with him. He's not a big character at all, and Strange has better villains to mine. Odd choice. Spoiler thoughts... Beyond that... It looks right, cast is bang on even with some changes, performances look good... It could be superb. But if you don't like this sort of thing it's not going to change your mind and it'll be another cinematic nytol for some, like Civil War was. Apparently.
  11. Have all the likes in the world. I find it all the more hilarious that its so obviously insincere.
  12. I think the media give him short shrift. Corbyn isn't given much respect, the narrative is always negative at best if not near mocking, he isn't given a platform at all without some fairly strong critique. The media isn't his friend. Some of that is deserved however. He doesn't engage with the media, whether that is a reaction or a general stance I don't know, some of what he does and says is stupid, and deserves the reaction (or lack of) it gets. But he should be getting a fairer roll of the dice than he does. The problem is, I think, is even he did get that fairer roll, I don't think he'd win many people over, because even his laudable positions on many things aren't winning over the man buying a 4 pack of cheap beer in Walsall this afternoon who's worried about whether his jobs still there at Christmas and his family will be OK this time next year.
  13. 'The Centre' has nothing to do with popularity in the voting public. If that was the case, in the UK at least, the Centre would actually be somewhat Right.
  14. Ready for the movie I've just reread 2 of the more notable Dr Strange stories - Triumph and Torment, and the Oath. Surprised they read so well still. Triumph and Torment is a very short story, 2 issues perhaps when first released, but it's a good small story that puts Dr Strange into the kind of scenario only he fits particularly well - traveling to hell to rescue a soul from Mephisto. It's also fun reading it knowing Mike Mignola drew it, knowing he went on to do Hellboy and you can see elements of that comic in his designs. A very short story but fun. The Oath is a longer read and probably does a little more for the character, despite largely avoiding the stuff he's most known for (fighting astral projections and dimension hopping). The story concerns Strange discovering a mystical cure for cancer following his right hand man Wong being diagnosed with a terminal brain tumour. The recurring theme is oaths, their importance and how they can define and control a person's actions, and for what is a very small story it has clever moments and interesting turns. You could read it in an hour but it's worthwhile. The only thing i don't really like is the art. Marcos Martin has a very classic comic poster style I don't like somehow, and he draws Strange too obviously as Vincent Price which I find bizarrely irritating. There's always elements of Price in Strange but the closer they get to him the more off putting it is. Worth a read if interested in the character before the movie. You could read both in an afternoon with time to spare. Season One is also recommended but haven't personally read it to comment. I should add that for some reason Strange comics have a habit of reiterating his origin, either in passing or out and out replaying it, which can be irritating. He's a character completely defined by his origin in many ways which makes the constant referring back to it really annoying.
  15. Because it's been fairly clear that you are a pretty staunch Tory for some time. If you had to push most off topic posters into a bin of Labour or Tory to sort the site you'd be one of the first to put in the Tory bin. I just thought it was funny anyone would think you'd ever support Labour. Anyway, back on topic... Corbyn in again. I give it a fortnight at most before the knives are back out. Any bets on the next leadership push? Will it follow inevitable failure on a grand stage, some horrendous scandal which I'm sure someone is digging for right now, or will they just get the pitchforks and flaming torches out to march on Islington North?
  16. I think.....I see what you.....may have done there.....perhaps.

    That Bradley Wiggins, eh?
  18. The Use of Weapons is usually regarded as the best. I also particularly like Excession, but that's not one you'd start with. I actually really disliked that book to begin with as a lot of it plays like a joke you're not in on until you've read a few more. There's also another good one but saying its a Culture novel is pretty much a spoiler. Or maybe not...
