I said it would have been a miracle for us to finish in the top 2. Finishing 5th was a good achievement but nothing crazy imo.

So? You don't need to get top 2 to get promoted. Elphick is a good CB at that level.

But every other team's squad in the league was pitch perfect? I understand there were holes in the defense but the squad was more than capable finishing in the top 6, which we did. Either way the defense got addressed in January. So we had more than enough time to push for the top 6.

We had a very very good squad. Smith even admitted to it the minute he walked in and said he expected us to finish in the top 6 which we did. Hourihane, McGinn, Grealish, Abraham, El Ghazi. They are top top Championship players. Like i said Bruce under performed massively.

On RedCafe they've created a "next manager to be sacked" thread and Smith is among the top 6 in many of the posts. It's interesting that fans from other clubs thinks he is doing a bad job. I think people have to take into account we finished 5th in the Championship but people are probably looking at the name Aston Villa and automatically have higher expectations of us compared to Norwich and Sheffield United.
