  1. whip - 1981/ 1982 it was different so that sort of dispells your its ever been any different statement
  2. agree whip, but why do people assume that anyone who cares to show any sort of objection to the current regime is in sime way not supporting the team. Surely with all the quotes from the players and the management then by protesting along the same lines as them in wanting further investment in players is in fact supporting the team. By doing nothing is in fact NOT supporting the team
  3. I think that the man wearing the blues away kit in this pic is probably their best player Away Kit NOTE NOT SURE IF WORK SAFE - OUR LOT THOUGHT IT WAS HILARIOUS BUT OTHERS MAY SEE IT DIFFERENT - YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED
  4. Is Santa fat? I have a few secret bits of info Our reserve goalie? look at his name Stefan Postma - In there are all the letters for Santa Post f'me You never see him in the months before Xmas, he's of the "larger" build and he's from a foreign land - I think we've found the real man there
  5. Chicken - thats foul (fowl) .............. anyone seen a coat ?
  6. back 3 of Olly / Laursen / Barry ...........hmmmmmmm nice
  7. we used to use it with a fair amount of success
  8. Lee Hendrie has a problem in that he is a marked man. this is as a result of his own actions TBF so I cant see how the club could be blamed for him. There will come a time veru very soon for him where he will reach the crossroads in terms of football and life ambitions. Im not sure he's going the right way so that in a few years time he's remembered for all the wrong reasons
  9. Fuse - its noticable that Olly plays best on the right side of the CH pairing - something he hasnt had much chance to do this year
  10. A bloke got admitted into the local hospital with food poisoning. Apparently he had been fed a diet of daffodill bulbs. The doctors think he should make a full recovery but he wont be out until spring!
  11. I suppose the JPA and Olly votes were to be expected. What would be more interesting possibly, would be "with the exception of Olly and JPA (the player), who would be the current Villa player you like the most"
  12. Now you just know that someone will ask for Nobby Solano..... Also while its an interesting idea for the favourite, I dont think the anti-so and so words help for anyone.
  13. Dale TBF having seen Beattie play for England, he really hasn't done a lot when he's pulled on the white shirt. Plus he's injured and out for a few weeks
  14. yes northern - there's a thread on it - looks like just me and the rev
  15. I see where you are coming from Tony, but the fact of the matter is we could say that no past player is as good as any of the current ones, its a bit of comparing oranges with apples. The fact is though as was pointed out before, McGrath won player of the year, was consistantly put into world x1 teams by managers and players alike, so during his time, he was a genius. Olly is very very good, and maybe (god forbid) in a better team than Villa we would see him perfom even better. I think though if you compare where each of them are in the time that they played with the better training and medical staff etc, McGrath wins due to how far he was above the rest.
  16. I suppose you could say the same about Pele and Cruyff though. Its a good debate though and it would be interesting to see of those who voted for Mellberg, how many saw McGrath play for Villa - OK you are the exception Tony
  17. I once met him in the lounge at Manchester Airport and like a little kid asked him for his autograph. He was brilliant and asked me to pull up a chair and discuss Villa. We spent the next 1/2 hour talking about a certain chairman, Graham Taylor and the fans. He was just a really nice bloke. Im sure Olly would be the same by the way
  18. JuJu there's no disputing the fact that Olly is a great defender one who is a key memeber of our team. But, I just think that like for like, McGrath was the better player during his time at Villa. Thats not to say that Mellberg will not achieve the same cult status that McGrath did, just at the moment one of them was god and the other is his right hand man.
