  1. I think the main gripe people have about Jack Woodward is that he tends to spend too much time talking about things other than the game he's commentating on. Obviously those that aren't there want to know exactly whats happening on the pitch and while asides to the co-commentator, quips and snippets of trivia help add to the commentary too often these seem to be at the expense of the match action.
  2. Didn't they win the League Cup in 63? Yes but it's so hard to find a tune to fit "100 years and won **** all, apart from the 63 League cup which we'd prefer to totally forget about"
  3. Not trying to be modest but it was more luck that the conditions were so good and that spot on the road has such a great view. I had the camera on an automatic 'landscape' setting. I've tried experimenting with some settings but I'm not capable of using the camera to it's full extent at all, so my ability is limited. That the great thing with cameras now though. You can go and mess about take hundreds of shots experimenting and it doesn't matter if you only get a handfull of decent pictures. That would have been impossible to do in the days of film. Here's another one I was pleased with. It's a view from Garnedd Ugain which is the mountain before Snowdon when doing the 'Snowdon Horseshoe'. I didn't do the whole horseshoe but crossed Crib Goch, which I wouldn't have attempted if the weather hadn't been perfect, so again it wasn't hard to get a good picture.
  4. Liechtenstein produce the majority of the worlds false teeth, I'm sure I read it was around 80%.
  5. I'm a newbie photographer and haven't been able to take many pictures lately due to work but here's one that I took in June last year of Harlech beach taken from the Barmouth to Harlech road. It was on an Olympus E-510. F/10, 1/200th exposure. This was put on the Redbubble site and someone actually brought a large print of this which I was enormously chuffed about. The first, and only, photograph I've sold but I don't care
  6. McLeish said the players were worried about going out for the end of season lap of honour but was pleased with the warm applause they recieved. He didn't mention the fact that only about two hundred of them actually bothered to stay behind. I actually felt sorry for Ridgewell hobbling along on his crutches clapping empty stands.
  7. I am also in K3 ROW 30 I'm further forward Row 4 Seat 58
  8. I haven't read any Patrick O'Brian. Which would you recommend first?
  9. I've read most of his books. Very good reads and it's interesting to read the 'historical' section after where he tells you what bits he 'messed about' with. I've just finished Emperor: The Gods of War by Conn Iggulden about Julius Caesar. It's the last part in a series of four but I got it from a charity shop just to see if I enjoyed it. I'll have to get the first three now I would heartily recommend 'Learning to Breathe' by Andy Cave. An absolutely brilliant book about how he first got into rock climbing, then mountaineering and became part of the first team to achieve one of the steepest and most difficult climbs in the world, the north face of Changabang in India. He's got a very 'easy' down to earth style and you certainly don't need to be 'into' climbing or mountaineering to enjoy it.
  10. Will you be at the Everton game General ? I'll be in the Holte Hotel before the game and would love to be able to say hello
  11. The Lonesome Death of Rachel Corrie - Billy Bragg A very good re-working of Bob Dylans 'The Lonesome Death of Hattie Carroll' which is itself a superb song.
  12. Hi General I've got two friends coming with me to the Everton game, for their first ever match. I know it's a bit cheeky but is it at all possible to be put on the 'list' for the Holte Hotel for that match. I haven't been fortunate enough to be picked out of the hat yet but have been in there a couple of times during the week and would really love to show it off to them before they experience the passion of the Holte End in what will be a very important game. Thanks for your time.
  13. Brilliant. Perfect result if it stays like this. L'pool only three points above us and Everton eight points behind with Arsenal next in the Prem.
  14. Welcome back General. I, along with a few other season ticket holders it seems, have yet to recieve the Villa year book or copy of Claret and blue even though others recieved them in October. Are they still being dispatched or are they considered 'lost in transit'? Thank you in advance for any help you can give.
  15. It's also great to see that after five of our eight games against the 'big four' we've gained four more points than the same games last season.
  16. After all those barren seasons out of Europe I wouldn't miss it for anything.
  17. After the deadline fiasco I want him gone. Even if he signed a ten year contract, in his own blood, while pledging on all thats holy that he'd honour it, I still think we'll have the same crap in January ...... next summer ...... next January ......... untill he got his move.
  18. The percentage showing has to be wrong. It's showing as seven votes for no giving seven percent. That would only be the case if there was a hundred votes and there has been only 89.
  19. Yes, MON must stay. In the space of two seasons we've gone from near certainties for relegation to being on course for our highest points total for over a decade. There are still areas of improvement needed but I am sure that they are being addressed.
  20. Hi General Do you know if the Holte Suite will be open before and after the small heath game as usual? Obviously with things likely to be 'heated' in the area around the ground, especially after we've won :winkold:, it'd be handy to be able to have a celebratory pint or two and let things calm down before travelling home.
  21. Hi General I asked you a few weeks back about leaving my rucksack at reception so I could get off to a camping trip in Wales straight after the Sunderland game and you kindly said you'd arrange it. I just thought I'd let you know that unfortunately as the weather forecast is blizzards throughout snowdonia over the weekend I won't be going. While I enjoy wild camping, camping halfway up a mountain in a blizzard is a bit too wild Thanks very much anyway for your offer of help, it was very much appreciated.
  22. Thanks General, your very quick response and help is much appreciated.
  23. Hi General I have a slightly unusual problem which I'm hoping you may be able to help me with, or at least put me in touch with someone who can. I was due to go away backpacking in north Wales for a few days over Easter leaving on the Thursday evening. However we 're playing at home on the Saturday against Sunderland so I'm delaying setting out untill after the match as there's no way I'm missing the game. The problem is the last train on the Saturday leaves at 6.00pm which means I'd need to go to New Street straight from the game. Obviously I'm not going to allowed to enter the game with my full rucksack, so I was wondering if it was possible to arrange to leave it at Villa Park reception, or somewhere, so I can pick it up straight after the final whistle. Thank you in advance for any help you can give.
  24. Spurs spent £16M this week. They spent that on one player in the summer and they're fourteen points behind us. But they are in a Cup Final - a competition that we were knocked out by the mighty Leicester Spurs are better than their position suggests Fair play to them for getting to the Carling Cup final but that doesn't necessarily mean anything. It was only a few years ago that Millwall got to the cup final. As for being better than their position suggests, with only fifteeen games left they are exactly where they deserve to be. They've got an expensive squad but that alone doesn't make a good team. Otherwise Newcastle wouldn't be in the bottom half of the table. I would REALLY love us to spend big money but if it's not on the right players then it's meaningless.
