  1. I wouldn't recommend anyone following my bets but I've been looking at it and I like: Vikings - 6.5 : I cannot see the Browns scoring more than ten points, the Browns are surely going to have to score defensive points to cover this spread which is possible but unlikely Ravens + 1 : C'mon they are they the champions and they are at home. Now I don't think they are brilliant but I don't think the Texans are either. I mean the Texans could easily be 0-2 right now. If Rice is out that is obviously a big loss but I have confidence in Pierce. Cardinals + 9 : It's just too many points to give. The Cardinals aren't a bad team and shouldn't be getting blown out too often. I think I'll leave it at there. I like the Lions but they let me down badly last week. Tampa Bay + 8.5 is very tempting as well.
  2. Credit to him he bounced back pretty well from giving away an early penalty. I'd be lying though if I didn't say how much it bothers me how much he struggles to win an aerial battle. We have Baker on the bench who can win the vast majority of his aerial battles and if we're playing a side with a physical striker or strikers it has to be Baker in there for me.
  3. I thought he and Delph worked very well today in the middle. He adds more bite than Westwood and playing in a more distinct 4-2-3-1 curbs Delph's desire to get forward and keeps him in a more defensive role where he is more effective. I think if Lambo wants to play a 4-2-3-1 he should go with El Ahmadi and Delph now.
  4. That was so bad from Tonev it was quite funny (I can find it funny probably just because we won though). It reminded me of when I played 5-a-side and there was a lad too fat to play 11-a-side but he thought he was good at 5-a-side because he could smash the ball hard. All he did was stand upfront on the left wing and smash the ball whenever he got it.
  5. The business model of international football is completely reliant on paying the top footballers much, much less than market value and relying on their goodwill. I question how long it can continue. A lot of the money gets redistributed through community projects etc but surely there are some footballers smart enough to say I'm not getting used like this to make a bunch of corrupt officials rich.
  6. I got into a discussion the other day about referees and was interested to know what people thought about it. Personally, I hate referees who chat to players all the time, who see their role as managing the game and almost babysitting at times. Some refs are big on chatting to players, often after even minor fouls. Some refs insist on warning players repeatdly. I think this slows down a game, is all for show and is generally quite intellectually insulting. I mean these are professional footballers, they know what a foul is, they know when a foul merits a booking or a sending off. If a player really needs the rules explained to them then fair enough but they just don't. Players go along with these little chats because they think they can manipulate the refs a bit and avoid bookings etc. Personally I just want refs who technically apply the rules and keep the pace of the game going. There's no need to be chatting to players during the game. There's no need to be joking with players. It should be cut out. But, it seems to have grown in popularity to have refs that 'manage' games. Do people really like this? Do people really want this? Thoughts?
  7. Absolutely amazing to me that the top footballers willingly agree to continue playing international football to make these corrupt suited scumbags rich.
  8. The Chiefs have committed no turnovers so far this year.
  9. Saw this elsewhere: "Let's not forget the Browns traded their 4th overall pick, a 4th rd, 5th rd and 7th rd picks to move up one spot with Minnesota in the 2012 draft to take Richardson. Just 18 regular season games later he's being dealt for what might be the 20th overall pick." It's a proper F U to the previous organisation definitely.
  10. Well the trade might work out. Maybe in 3/4 years time the Browns will be a legit superbowl contender and people will point to this trade as one of the reasons why. The Browns fans though. I think the only hope the Browns fans had this year was that Richardson was going to become a superstar and they were getting to watch him develop in front of their eyes. Plus, they were going to get a high draft pick anyway weren't they, maybe even no.1
  11. All true but I would not be happy if I just bought a Browns season ticket and they trade away the star offensive player* Excluding Joe Thomas but I can't really believe anyone bought a season ticket to watch Joe Thomas
  12. Signing Eto and loaning out Lukaku looking more ridiculous by the minute
  13. Wow. I love a shocking trade. Giving up on the season after 2 weeks though Celeveland, seriously?
  14. Monday night football summary. Giovani Bernard looks electric. Big Ben looks finished.
  15. Well Kaepernick almost outscored my entire team last week and I hate to think how many points Manning got last week, it's not like Rodgers was a complete one-off. I find it hard to believe anyone understood the scoring or else Brees, Rodgers, Manning should have been the first three picks in the draft because of the very gettable bonus points on offer for passing yardage. Changing scoring halfway through is probably a bad idea though so I don't think there's anything constructive in going on about it. Lets just forget about it now and get on with it as it is.
  16. Rivera passed up another fourth-and-1 game-sealer to put his defense in a situation where it needed to produce a stop to win. With 1:42 left, the Panthers were up three on the Bills, who were out of timeouts. Carolina was facing a fourth-and-1 on Buffalo's 21-yard line.... Since Rivera took over and the Panthers drafted Cam Newton first overall, Carolina has run the ball on third-and-1 or fourth-and-1 43 times. It has converted 35 of those runs for first downs or touchdowns, meaning that its break-even rate on those plays has been a whopping 81.4 percent.... Literally, if the Panthers had to sit down and write a résumé, the first strength they would mention is their effectiveness in short yardage. And yet, Rivera turned down another opportunity to use that strength to seal a victory. http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/9680034/bill-barnwell-week-2-nfl-season Ron Rivera. Ron Rivera. Ron Rivera. Shakes head.
  17. Well that's me told. The scoring balance to me clearly isn't right. If you look at Rodgers, he has 138 points this week. The lowest scoring team at the moment has 155 points. However, well Rodgers did to nearly outscore an entire team isn't right. I'm not suggesting changing the scoring system because no one else appears bothered and yes it's my own fault.
  18. I much prefer watching a game like this. Low scoring, physical, a genuine edge that they dislike each other.
  19. Also, I've gotta say I'm so disappointed in what the Colts have done to Andrew Luck. To take him from the aggressive passing offence of Bruce Arians and then make him just another boring West Coast offence QB. Do the coaches really look back at that game and say "hooray, he head a 78% completion percentage, I'm so happy"? If anyone is wondering how the Colts almost lost their home opener to the Raiders it's because one QB was restricted by a dull, conservative offensive scheme and the other QB just went out there and had the freedom to try and make plays (or alternatively, he didn't understand the calls so just took off an run at every opportunity, I'm not sure which).
  20. I guess so but it's amazing how much bad commentary there is on sports and nothing gets done about it. It's not hard for a tv executive/producer to look on twitter or read sports forums and find out how disliked certain commentators are by the public. At least with cricket the commentators don't feel a need to talk constantly. Obviously this is a radio trait because they can't allow 'dead air' but on tv I just want them to commentate on the game and if nothing interesting is happening then just stay quiet, I thing Cricket is quite good for this, not in the studio but during the game.
  21. Back to the games. I have an interest on Tennessee +9.5 and Detroit straight up. Maybe Houston's dreadful first half-performance was just a consequence of playing away on MNF the first game of the season. Maybe, but 9.5 points seems fairly generous for a Titans side who went to Pittsburgh and handled them well in the first week. What's more both sides are very committed to the run which will likely mean a low scoring game which favours a Titans cover. I watched most of the Rams-Cardinals game last week and it was a fun game. Bruce Arians has to be the most fun coach in the league. Carson Palmer is going to throw the ball downfield a lot but is also going to get sacked a lot and intercepted a lot. I'm going forward with the premise that Detroit are a very good team though, I'm not sure how good they are but they're good enough to get to Carson Palmer a lot on Sunday and I don't have enough faith in him to look after the ball. On the other games, Cowboys-Chiefs is interesting. I think that game will be illuminating in terms of how good the Chiefs are. And obviously, Niners-Seahawks. I really have no idea what to expect on that. Presumably it will be close but both sides can win with offence and defence. I would guess that whoever wins the other team will take revenge in the return game.
  22. If anyone watches Baseball you see it all the time, commentators not commentating on the game. The national games are normally okay but the local ones are ridiculous especially if the commentary teams team is losing heavily. They think they can go on about anything. I have watched many, many games with no sound just to avoid the nonsensical commentary. I just want commentators to commentate on the damn game.
  23. I watched most of last night's game and I'm so sick of Mike Mayock. He's from the school of commentary of not commentating on the game, just gushing about players, any player. If anyone makes a play, we get about half a minute of Mike Mayock saying how great they are, listing all of their qualities, ooo they were a steal in the draft, yadda, yadda, yadda. The embarrassing thing last night was that Geno Smith made a good throw early on when he got hit in the mouth. He spent most of the rest of the game saying how great he was, how promising he was, how exciting he was, this was way into the third quarter. Of course, Geno Smith hadn't made another good throw by then, he'd actually been atrocious and he finally shut up about how great he was.
  24. If anyone doesn't check Grantland the Bad Quarterback League is always good for a laugh on a Tuesday. http://www.grantland.com/blog/the-triangle/post/_/id/73952/bad-quarterback-league-week-1-blaines-world-party-time Philip Rivers' passer rating when Chargers were up 28-7 with 10:46 left in 3rd quarter was 134.8 ... Thereafter, it was 0. Zero. Last week we said no player in the NFL inspires less confidence than Blaine Gabbert. But then he went and exceeded everything on Sunday. Two interceptions, including a pick-six (+30), no touchdowns (+10), less than 150 yards passing (+12), and a 46 percent completion percentage (+5). The Jaguars offense also failed to score a single point and made the Chiefs defense look like the '86 Bears. And Gabbert was sacked six times. He finished with a QB rating of 30.8, which actually seems a little high. Lol. Thank you for coaching is also normally pretty good but not that interesting this week. http://www.grantland.com/blog/the-triangle/post/_/id/74042/thank-you-for-not-coaching-the-week-in-ahem-curious-strategic-sideline-decisions
  25. Without inside knowledge it's next to impossible. I could believe someone could do it on horse racing because it's so corrupt but I have a hard time believing anyone could do it on another sport.
