I think it is becoming the norm in recent weeks as Unai does not trust Cash at RB/RCB - only really plays him there for width if we have no RW option e.g Bailey injured and so have to play a CM (McGin) on the RW. Agreed it can be opponent specific, however, when he has the players available, Unai does pick Konsa at RB more often than not. I think he has seen the negative impact on our attacking play when BK drops back. Obviously Konsa at RB improves our defensive structure but also, it could be argued, has just as big an impact on our froward olay as well.

Not when Konsa plays RB. The issue with Kamara dropping into CB drags the 10's back as well resulting in Ollie being isolated and less creativity in final third. This the main reason why Unai prefers to use Konsa at RB...less overall impact on the structure. IMO.

There is now big pressure on Cash to try and act as the 3rd CB. I am not convced at all that he can do it but the only other viable option would be to play Kamara at RB.....but with only Tim as his replacement...not really that viable!!

With Cash at right back this will impact our midfield anyway as BK will need to drop to make up the 3rd CB in possession without Konsa there as Cash is not good enough to do that. This then leaves us light in the CM area and we can struggle to progress the ball forward with BK so deep. At least with Youri in the side he can drop into midfield to give us the numbers but again we lose sole link up play going forward. Losing Konsa from RB impacts us more than losing him at CB imo.
  5. Absolutely mate. I’m still not 100% sure Unai saw him in that SS role when signing him as I always saw him as the competition for Doug. However, as Unai has always said, versatility is essential.
  6. Joy to watch. In terms of progressive final third passes he is streets ahead of anyone else in the squad. I cannot remember seeing a player attempt so many through balls in all my years watching the Villa. The creativity he gives us centrally is vital and could well be the difference betwen top 4 and top 6.
  7. Spot on. I think we’re about to see a new phase in our development and it may take some time to come to fruition. UE knows more about tactics/systems than most of us have forgotten so I suspect this is no surprise to him. He has been telling us all season that we are contenders for top 7….he knew we would plateau at some stage. Now that teams are becoming very effective at blocking our passing lanes in CM, I don’t think we’ll see Youri on the left again anytime soon. We have to increase our wide options so suspect Bailey will now get a run on the right and Youri will move behind Ollie - thus then also gives us some extra central creativity so we can hurt teams in different areas of the pitch. Diaby needs more work on the SS position and Cash is not able to provide us with the threat on the RHS we need if we have no natural winger on that side. Obviously I could be completely wrong but UE is all about slow, measured control and then quick decisive moves to create attacks. The 4 CM system he played last night gave us neither tbh and resulted in us looking slow and ponderous with a lack of that wide or forward option with Newcastle going man to man in midfield. I still believe we will have a decent end to the season but it will take a few games now to reset, adapt and kick on again. Progression is never completely linear and this plateau we have reached is all part of that development process.
  8. The world of FFP my friend.....drink it in!!
  9. Exactly - let Monchi do the do the job he's employed to do. Withh FFP so tight, a strong negotiator is essential. This deal was ALWAYS going to get done....
  10. Indeed. Looks like we offered £7.5M upfront (then another £7.5M in add-ons). Srtandard negotiation to be honest: Couple of low ball offers no where near their valuation, then an overall offer that meets their valuation but with low uopfornt fee. Final offer will be same vale as the third one but prob around £10-£12M upfront and deal gets done. I'm still pretty confident this will happen. Monchi doing what Monchi does
  11. Agree with most on here that things aren’t quite clicking atm. However, I feel we have plateaued at the moment. Our development over the last 15 months has been phenomenal but developmental progression is rarely completely linear. There will be dips, as form drops off. There will be periods of slight regression as new learning phases take a bit longer to be absorbed and implemented. We are now in a new phase: Learning to play against very compact midfields which force us wide. Learning to adapt when passing lanes are blocked. Learning to find more of a goal threat when our forwards are tightly marshalled (especially Diaby) It’s all part of the development and hence why we have plateaued recently. Patience is required now until we get back to that upward trajectory as the players learn to implement Unai’s new tactical changes and adaptations whilst also adapting to their own individual challenges Only 2 losses since September…….
  12. Player are allowed to register/play for maximum of 3 clubs in a season so would be fine....I think.
  13. We don’t have to replace players like for like in terms of position……
  14. Tbh, don’t recall the ‘project player’ quotes except around a new GK….fair enough if I missed them. So you don’t think that IF we manage to shift Chambers AND Traore , we don’t bring in a first team squad player? I think it’s a real possibility.
  15. The lad will be loaned back to Red Star for rest of season so won’t replace Chambers in the squad this season. Chambers and KKH will both be sold prob this week - personally expect another first team signing to come in for this season in addition to this lad. Still reckon we’ll get circa £5M for KKH, played numerous games in Champ and more then likely a Champ club will look to buy him, imo.
  16. Yep. Reckon we’ll see KKH leave for around £5M this week.
  17. ....and also this would be a typical Unai signing. He has always liked an experienced head in midflield (e.g Parejo at Villareal). Some also questioned Moreno initially.....
  18. Didnt realise it would be this much - doesnt the fact that it would now only be a 6 month period until the end of his contract reduce these savings accordingly?
  19. Think your numbers ar excessive unfortunately. Nearer £30M is our limit I suggest.
  20. Thanks for that...at least it means we won't have any senior players unregistered if we do bring anymore in.
  21. My thoughts exactly. I'm not sure how we are placed from a squad registration situation. Have we got any 'places' left for anymore senior players?
  22. Thanks for the info mate. Tim in for Berti would be good imo...and a very good point about the transition for him to 'club trained' player if he stays with us. Interesting decision for Unai...
  23. Not enough of a sample size to judge yet, imo. Has all the attrbutes and had good/steady performances in the Champinhsip. Needs a run of games now but clearly Unai prefers Dendoncker atm. Would be nice to get into a winning position vs Burnley and then be able to give him 30 mins. I assume he wasnt registerd for the UCL...maybe he will be for the KO stages?
  24. Good question. I too would be tempted. I guess it would depend on how highly UE rates Tim or Youri's ability to replace Kamara as and when required. Unai has shown that he will be ruthless where required so its definitely a possiblity.
