  10. I actually came to believe in the Bible because of the flood legends found in places where tribes had never seen the sea as in North American tribes and in regions of the Himalayas. I became fascinated by Anti Deluvian ancient history and beyond. The Bible goes to great lengths to list both the genealogies from Adam...going through to Noah ..right down to Jesus. The Bible in stark contrast to other Creation versions form Egypt, Babylon explains it's origin...whilst the others assume a Universe already in existence.... However....I can't remember the last time I was so patronised 31% on the poll have said they believe in God and yet hardly any post on the thread. Is it any wonder when if you dare to admit to believing in a divine being that created the Universe you are rounded upon and laughed at. My answers are now likened to a sketch off Billy Connolly wanking! That's the final straw.. I am not going to spend anymore valuable time trying to answer questions that some don't really want to hear an answer to anyhow. Some appear to ask them just for the fun of laughing and deriding the response. A number of you DO NOT DISCUSS ....YOU DISMISS!! If this is an example of how people who believe in Evolution and a Godless society behave, then quite frankly I'm thankful I am a Christian! If ANYONE wishes to ask me a specific question on my belief in the Bible or God then please PM me, I'll do my best to respond.
  11. .. I am not a Genetisist I only read articles and what the Scientific press release... There are huge discussions over Genetics and Evolutions currently.....not least about the differences between Chimpanzee and Human DNA and the fact that their are too many differences being highlighted between the two sets of Chromosomes for their eventual reproduction to have been possible.“Large differences in DNA, not small ones, separate apes and monkeys from both humans and each other,” says Britain’s New Scientist magazine. “There are large deletions and insertions sprinkled throughout the chromosome,” explains Kelly Frazer of Perlegen Sciences, the California, U.S.A., company that did the analysis. New Scientist characterized the differences as a “yawning gap [that] divides monkeys and us.” However we could sit here all day quoting this article and that article.... All of us can examine the evidence for ourselves and make our minds up...that's everyone's choice Adam and Eve according to Genesis were created perfect with perfect DNA, therefore inter-marriage between their offspring would have been possible in those circumstances until the human race grew to an extent where this became un-necessary. Indeed how could it be considered wrong when according to the Bible- God's instructions to Adam & Eve were to reproduce and fill the Earth. How else would that be possible unless their offspring conceived children between each other? Abraham's wife Sarah was also in fact his half sister. However as time went on and as generations deteriorated from perfection inter-marriage between siblings stopped. I don't need to scoff at other people's beliefs, I was merely pointing out there is an alternative explanation given in the Bible. If anyone chooses to dismiss Biblical accounts as nonsense including the account of Adam & Eve...then that is their absolute right...however it is NOT right to presume that anyone else who chooses to believe in them is any less Scientific or in some way mentally deficient. Whatever I believe in certainly compels me to behave better towards my fellow humans than that. So is that such a bad thing? “Science deals with the measurable, religion deals with the immeasurable,” suggested author William Rees-Mogg. He said: “Science can neither prove nor disprove the existence of God, any more than it can prove or disprove any moral or aesthetic proposition. There is no scientific reason to love one’s neighbour or to respect human life . . . To argue that nothing exists which cannot be proved scientifically is the crudest of errors, which would eliminate almost everything we value in life, not only God or the human spirit, but love and poetry and music.”
  12. Which incidentally entirely find their origins from Babylonian and Egyptian astronomy and astrology.Whose cultures and beliefs were entirely in contradiction to the Bible, as I've tried to show. I also wanted to repond to someone attesting that Belshazzar must have been a head of a Babylonian tribe or something... The point I was making was that the Bible clearly identified the King of Babylon the night the Medes and the Persians dried up the waters of the river Euphrates and overthrew the City and the then mighty Kingdom of Babylon. History until the 19th Century recorded the last King of Babylon as Nabonidus. Critics pounced as further evidence that the Bible account written by Daniel was flawed. Daniel 5 verse 2 clearly states that King was celebrating with his court on the very night Babylon was attacked....Bel·shaz′zar, under the influence of the wine, said to bring in the vessels of gold and of silver that Neb·u·chad·nez′zar his (grand) father had taken away from the temple that was in Jerusalem, that from them the king and his grandees, his concubines and his secondary wives might drink... In 1924 publication was made of the decipherment of an ancient cuneiform text described as the “Verse Account of Nabonidus,” and through it valuable information was brought to light clearly corroborating Belshazzar’s kingly position at Babylon and explaining the manner of his becoming coregent with Nabonidus. Concerning Nabonidus’ conquest of Tema in his third year of rule, a portion of the text says: “He entrusted the ‘Camp’ to his oldest (son), the firstborn [belshazzar], the troops everywhere in the country he ordered under his (command). He let (everything) go, entrusted the kingship to him and, himself, he [Nabonidus] started out for a long journey, the (military) forces of Akkad marching with him; he turned towards Tema (deep) in the west.” (Ancient Near Eastern Texts, edited by J. Pritchard, 1974, p. 313) There are many other instances whereby the Bible has proved historical before other evidence was un-earthed eg Ninevah. Risso's point was...so what if the Biblle is historical...however my viewpoint is that ...if the Bible is correct historically in the parts that can be proved...then how can other parts simply be dismissed as tosh?
  13. I did respond to that point about Dinosaurs a couple of pages back......excuse quoting myself ... The Bible may well make mention of these giants... ... (Genesis 1:20-21) . . .And God went on to say: “Let the waters swarm forth a swarm of living souls and let flying creatures fly over the earth upon the face of the expanse of the heavens.” 21 And God proceeded to create the great sea monsters and every living soul that moves about, which the waters swarmed forth according to their kinds, and every winged flying creature according to its kind. . . . the Bible account in the first chapter of Genesis simply states the general order of creation. It allows for possibly thousands of millions of years for the formation of the earth and many millenniums in six creative eras, or “days,” to prepare the earth for human habitation. Some dinosaurs (and pterosaurs) may indeed have been created in the fifth era listed in Genesis, when the Bible says that God made “flying creatures” and “great sea monsters.” Perhaps other types of dinosaurs were created in the sixth epoch. The vast array of dinosaurs with their huge appetites would have been appropriate considering the abundant vegetation that evidently existed in their time. Jesus himself said there would be divisions and false teachings amongst his followers within preceding generations, I think it's up to everyone to examine the evidence and decide for themselves. Religion has caused huge divisions and indeed been used as an excuse for wars and disputes. However how can Christianity ever be used as an excuse to fight. Jesus said specifically that we should be peaceable and love our enemies...and if we lived by the sword we would die by the sword.
  14. It was common practice in Ancient times for men to marry their sisters or neices. Some fellow VTs were ridiculing the fact that Adam & Eve's offspring would have had to have married their siblings or their descendents for the human race to continue. I was merely pointing out that Ptolemaic Pharaoh's ALWAYS married their sisters and had offspring succesfully to continue the "royal" line.
  15. Trent you specifically said that the Bible does not make mention of any Dinosaurs...I was pointing out that it may well do.... (Genesis 1:20-21) . . .And God went on to say: “Let the waters swarm forth a swarm of living souls and let flying creatures fly over the earth upon the face of the expanse of the heavens.” 21 And God proceeded to create the great sea monsters and every living soul that moves about, which the waters swarmed forth according to their kinds, and every winged flying creature according to its kind. . . . You also attested that the first creation of God's was Mankind...the Bible doesn't agree with this statement. With regard to the Stars of the Heavens being in the wrong order i'm not sure I get your point..could you explain a bit more please.
  16. On the subject of brother's marrying their sisters.. The Ptolemaic Pharaohs were actually Greek, when the vast Empire of Alexander the Great was split between his four Generals. As on his death their was no heir. General Ptolemy was given Egypt. This line of Pharaoh's were thereby Greek and entirely separate from the subjects they ruled. They all had to marry their sisters.
  17. No that's not what the Bible claims...not sure where that comes from Trent because Genesis in Chapter 1 clearly states that Man actually came after everything else had been created. Each Creative" Day" did not have to be a 24hour period at all. eg. My Mum could say "in our day"...it's not necessarily a 24hour day, but a period of time which could be many millenia. The Bible simply seperates the different periods of Creation into 7 distinct time periods. The Hebrew word for "Day" literally means a period of time. Indeed to compare if you look at (Genesis 2:4) the whole creative time period is there described as one day . . .This is a history of the heavens and the earth in the time of their being created, in the day that Jehovah God made earth and heaven. Actually Trent the Bible may well make mention of these giants... ... the Bible account in the first chapter of Genesis simply states the general order of creation.
  18. Just got back in and there's a few more questions to be responded to... Firstly...Sorry guys my mistake...Moses didn't write about the Earth being a Circle it was Isaiah written in about 732BCE...in Jerusalem that Scripture is found in Isaiah Chapter 40 V 22. Moses in Job did write about the earth hanging upon nothing, which is precisely correct as I said before... Adam and Eve had many children not just Cain and Abel.....the Bible attests to this. Where did they all get their wives from...well they married their sisters or their neices. Listen guys...I ain't gonna carry on researching points and trying to give answers that just get scoffed at and ridiculed. I'm not going to be bullied sorry.
  19. So thereby from my post regarding Newsweek and Time Magazine..do they lose all credibility also??!!!
  20. In 1988, Newsweek magazine presented those findings in a report entitled “The Search for Adam and Eve.” Those studies were based on a type of mitochondrial DNA, genetic material passed on only by the female. Reports in 1995 about research on male DNA point to the same conclusion—that “there was an ancestral ‘Adam,’ whose genetic material on the [Y] chromosome is common to every man now on earth,” as Time magazine put it. Whether those findings are accurate in every detail or not, they illustrate that the history we find in Genesis is highly credible, being authored by One who was on the scene at the time.
  21. No then we'll have to agree to disagree. I was saying that God creation's were created perfect, the fact that they could become imperfect does not necessarily mean their Creator got it wrong. God's sovereignty was questioned and he has the right to answer that in the way he sees fit surely? Again a similar response to above. What you seem to be saying is that in your opinion God should have made everything perfect if he exists? No one should have the free will to make a choice. But then I see things differently to you.
  22. Again I'll do some research and come back to you! You have to realise I only gave TWO examples of the Bible being scientific..there are other's
  23. Yes he was bought up as an Egyptian and a very learned one in the house of Pharaoh.. Which was my retort to the Bible being written by a bunch of Bronze Age Farmers...... I will try and do some research on this point about the Egyptians believing the Earth was round and come back to you, I only know their associations with Sun and Moon, which they depicted as being round. If we take that Moses took a good guess then it still doesn't explain his use of the Hebrew word meaning "Orb" and it doesn't explain (Job 26:7) . . ."He is stretching out the north over the empty place, Hanging the earth upon nothing." Would be interesting to research what the Egyptian beleifs were on Creation also.
  24. Actually BrumAmerican I have taken Forensic Psychiatry and have wrote a paper for the UK government on Personality Disorders which was used in a fairly recent White Paper...so no I don't think I'll take you up on the offer... I'm not interested in the Vatican or it's beleifs...only my own... Studies of the Human DNA bring scientist's to conclude that their would have been an or an original male and female human. Like I said you scoff all you want...I was responding to a question someone else asked me
  25. No I'm sorry...I don't agree with this... Adam and Eve were created perfect...however they were not created robots he tested them and told them that if they failed the test they would die...they chose to folllow a spirit creature that questioned God's authority over them and also said God had lied to them and said they positively would not die. Adam and Eve did indeed eventually die after they had borne many offspring. The Bible calls God a Heavenly Father so I don't think it is ridiculous to liken his authority and their free will to a father with his children. What I'm trying to say is that although created perfect...imperfection and sin were possible for God's creations. They could make a choice. Clearly a number of spirit creatures followed Satan and became part of his organisation as the Bible refers to Satan and the Demons. Satan effectively laid down a challenge to God that no perfect human could obey him...all would fail. As I said before have a look at Job Chapter 1. We all inherited that sin and imperfection from Adam and Eve as their offspring according to the Bible therefore we all die. God did indeed take responsibility for the Evil...he immediately stated that someone would come along and balance up the scales and answer the Devil's accusation, which is why someone from the Israelites and the seed of Adam would indeed be born and give his life so that question could be answered. Jesus as God's son gave his faithful perfect life to balance up those scales and directly answer Satan's taunting's of the Creator of mankind. This at some point in the future after Jesus death would open up to sin and death being removed from mankind on his return. That's another discussion entirely...... To be fair..I'm not sure if both the Babylonian's or the Egyptian's thought the Earth was round or not. Maybe that is unfair to assume. I do know that MANY Pagan civilisations thought the earth was flat for instance regarding the ancient Greeks, the book A Guide to the Gods explains: “The earth was seen as a flat surface surrounded by a vast tract of water called Ocean. Beyond this lay the Afterworld, a gloomy wasteland dotted with dark and fruitless plants.” When this proved to be a myth, pagan philosophers had to relocate their so-called afterworld. “A suitable place was found, under the earth, connected to this world by various caverns,” explains author Richard Carlyon. Today, we know that this also is a myth. No such underworld or passage exists. PJ Wiseman quotes The Babylonian Legends of the Creation and the Fight Between Bel and the Dragon, issued by the Trustees of the British Museum, who hold that “the fundamental conceptions of the Babylonian and Hebrew accounts are essentially different.” He himself observes: “It is more than a pity that many theologians, instead of keeping abreast of modern archaeological research, continue to repeat the now disproved theory of Hebrew ‘borrowings’ from Babylonian sources.”—Creation Revealed in Six Days, London, 1949, p. 58. Therefore I would re-iterate how on earth would Moses know that the Earth was suspended on nothing. Also the Hebrew word for "circle" also is literally translated Orb, which IIRC is the EXACT shape of the Earth...because the Poles are slighly flattened.. It would be very difficult to accept that Moses just made a good guess...or was influenced by other civilisations.
