  1. Was trying to be mildly amusing But heck it could be right, that's the scary thing! Come on Guys CHILL!!
  2. Saw the bit with Pete Colley being interviewed about MON and Takeover and he thinks the whole thing about imminent arrival of MON & takeover might JUST be a ploy of Ellis to sell season tickets!! HMMMMMMMM Maybe those guys on SSN earlier will turn out to be Marcus, Stevano & Ali from the Villa Cross Kebab shop on a day out with Doug treated to shiny new suits from Primart, complimentary mobile phones & a tour in his Rolla out to Bodymoor Heath!!! ...................JUST to get us all going that SOMETHINGS happening!!!
  3. I agree too late in day, however as a PLC AVFC are duty bound to explore any serious approaches Maybe they're American builders etc sent into to sort out improvements at B Heath by Lerner........ or maybe Lerner has sent over his representatives to sort it all out as he has no intention of ever coming back to Villa Park until ELLIS has left the building?!!!
  4. Yeah well like has already been said on here earlier.Bills getting his info from somewhere ... otherwise the Editor of the Mail wouldn't splash it over the front & back covers!!... but if so someone at VP in the know is feeding Baggie Bill this stuff & under stock market regulations they shouldn't be!!!
  5. BBC don't normally put stuff up if they're not pretty sure its for real....as per previous link from bbc.co.uk Lerner ready to renew Villa bid Randy Lerner is expected to re-open talks with Villa chairman Ellis American billionaire Randy Lerner is poised to renew a £64m bid to buy Aston Villa - as speculation mounts that Martin O'Neill will be appointed boss. BBC Sport understands that tycoon Lerner is back at the negotiating table and will make an official offer to buy out chairman Doug Ellis within days. And former Leicester and Celtic boss O'Neill is firmly in the frame to succeed David O'Leary at Villa Park. Lerner appeared to back away from a deal, but is now back in pole position.
  6. From the Telegraph - Backs up rumours that MON is on his way but makes mention that Ellis might not sell!! The prospect of Martin O'Neill becoming the new manager of Aston Villa before the start of the Premiership season is looking increasingly likely despite the apparent reluctance of chairman Doug Ellis to relinquish his vice-like grip on the Midlands club. O'Neill, who has hand-picked Villa as the perfect venue for him to return from a lengthy sabbatical following his resignation as Celtic manager in May last year, is understood to be willing to meet with Ellis in the next few days and is seriously considering working alongside the 82-year-old. He was one phone call away from becoming David O'Leary's replacement last Wednesday after agreeing everything in principle with American billionaire Randy Lerner before the owner of the Cleveland Browns NFL franchise pulled out of negotiations over a proposed £57.2 million takeover because of Ellis's attempts to involve him in an auction for the club. It was widely expected that O'Neill, always his own man, would not entertain any thought of working with Ellis, but in the last few days there appears to have been a softening of attitude on the part of the Irishman and he could now be swayed into becoming the 14th manager to serve under Ellis during his 30-year association with Villa. Ellis has made his admiration for the Irishman clear and seemingly O'Neill is equally enamoured by the club, despite the political problems behind the scenes with four consortiums fighting for control. After taking time out to care for his wife Geraldine, who is suffering from cancer, O'Neill believes the timing and geographical location for a comeback is ideal. O'Neill refused to entertain the prospect of Newcastle United or Sunderland because he could not be close enough to his family home in Hertfordshire. But it is possible for him to commute to Villa Park. He also believes that, after two years of decline under O'Leary resulting in a lowly 16th place finish last season, that it is an opportune moment to step in at Villa Park. Throughout his career he has been a master of timing when he plans his next career move but whether the appointment of the charismatic European Cup winner with Nottingham Forest will be sufficient consolation to disgruntled supporters, who now face the prospect of Ellis extending his reign at Villa, is open to question. But the octogenarian seems as determined as ever to remain in charge now O'Neill has made his intentions known. Despite being Sven-Goran Eriksson's agent, Athole Still is leading another consortium who also want to put O'Neill in charge, but the Irishman would ideally have liked Lerner's attempted buy-out to have succeeded. The offer from the American remains lodged with Villa's accountants at Rothschilds, but O'Neill is increasingly aware that he needs to decide quickly whether to accept the post, irrespective of the uncertainties hanging over Villa's ownership. Even a decision in the next few days would leave him with precious little time to assess the existing squad and make the changes he feels are required before the transfer window closes at the end of August. Milan Baros and Olof Mellberg are wanted by Hamburg and Levante respectively and midfielder Gareth Barry has a meeting scheduled for later this week in which it is expected he will reiterate his desire to leave the club. Barry, 25, has not submitted a transfer request but has already told Ellis he feels the time is right to move on. With Steve McLaren pondering his first squad as new England manager, Barry is keen to press his claims for a future recall by impressing at a new club. Portsmouth, Bolton, Middlesbrough and Tottenham have all expressed an interest in the versatile left-sided player and a fee of around £5.5 million could persuade Villa to sell.
  7. Well its certainly not a done deal yet!! But I had a feeling there was more to this than met the eye!! Of course being a woman I would never wanna say told u so....BUT July 27th . Well I just find it difficult to beleive that a Buckeye like Lerner would walk away from something he's bin working on for a while (even making contact with fans) just cos of dealing with an old git Ellis who he's met before 8)
  8. Lerner .......".Ellis for the 10th time GET OUT & Make the bloody coffee" Barry (seen at door)...."Scuse me interruptin Mr Lerner the boys were just wondering if we still needed a weekly whip round for our new totti ..erm I mean masseuse Veronica, only she's getting a bit carried away with the extras!!"....I mean at White Hart Lane I've bin told...
  9. I know sorry was just getting carried away with it all!!
  10. Maybe he just wants the pleasure of personally telling someone to clear his desk!!!
  11. Yip just heard Pat Murphy on Radio 5 Live about R Lerner tabling a bid midweek and that he's prepared to resume his dialogue with Doug. Oh please can I say it now it sounds soooo good???.........Ellis has left the building!!! :winkold:
  12. I don't think he can...reading between the lines....the announcement on the OS earlier was clearly a public rap on the knuckles for Doug and a reassurance that any talks would from now on be conducted appropriately and overseen!!. Then there's a TV Interview with Mr Lerner clearly NOT ruling himself of being out of the running to buy Aston Villa...enter stage left MON.... and hey presto..no surprise the deal might just be back on!!! Well its a nice script ...expect to see Souness unveiled tomorrow morning lol (joke...well I hope so anyhow!!!)
  13. Just found this on ic birmingham about takeover and THEY seem to know who scuppered the Lerner deal allright!!! How the hell does this tally with OS statement of in the best interests of the club and its shareholders?!!! .............................. RANDY Lerner's chances of re-entering the race to buy Aston Villa are now rated at only 50-50 after a week of twists and turns in the saga to see who takes control from Doug Ellis. But it now seems certain that if American billionaire Lerner, owner of the Cleveland Browns NFL team, does revive his bid, then it will be done through banks and lawyers rather than face-to-face with Ellis. And the breakdown has put SvenGoran Eriksson's agent Athole Still in pole position to win control of Villa. Whatever happened at last Wednesday's meeting between Lerner and Ellis, it has left a bad taste in the mouth. Lerner may yet be playing a shrewd game of poker when it comes to bidding for Villa, but if his current movements are a bluff then he is making a very good job of it. The 44-year-old is unlikely to want to meet Ellis again and, apparently, came to Villa Park this week only out of courtesy. Any further contact with Villa from Lerner is now likely to be done through financiers Rothschild. It is also understood that no formal bid was made as a result of the meeting which was designed to rubber-stamp the deal. Lerner has since been linked with a move for Everton, but it is understood that he felt Villa was his best bet when it came to buying into the Premiership. The documents were there to be signed and Martin O'Neill was waiting to hear the news that he was Villa manager that evening. O'Neill was said to be shocked when he heard that the talks had broken down. While Lerner is said to be upset at the manner of the meeting, Ellis is likely to counter that by saying discussions simply hit a brick wall. But there is no doubting the silence coming from the Lerner camp last night, although he has yet to withdraw officially from the race. If he had done on Wednesday, then Villa would have had to issue a statement saying as much. And if Lerner withdraws his interest, then, under Stock Exchange rules, it would be six months before he could make another bid. For that reason alone, Villa will be hoping that Lerner comes back into the equation, despite his apparent disagreement with Ellis. But Lerner is a private man and does not court publicity. So when he arrived in Britain to find out that his plans were common knowledge - along with Neville's proposals - it did not sit comfortably with him. Weekend reports suggested that Still's financial backing was even greater than Lerner's, although it is still uncertain as to what former England manager Eriksson's involvement would be should Still be successful. Mike Neville's proposed bid is still alive and he has made it clear that he can make £20 million available for players - a pledge he also made when leading the Comer Brothers bid last year. Another consortium, AV06, led by deputy high court judge and leading solicitor Nicholas Padfield QC, is also in the running. Padfield says that his choice for new Villa manager has "won the League, FA Cup and European Cup, and has since managed". But if the David O'Leary saga stunned Villa, the latest soap opera to grip the club has left fans wondering just what the future holds for a club who could be on the verge of greatness once more if a big-money backer comes in. There could be more developments tomorrow, but the week's events have left the club in a whirl. It all started last weekend when Neville exclusively revealed to the Sunday Mercury that he had fresh backing that would let him make a new bid for Ellis's majority shareholding. Neville had continued to work on his bid despite his association with the Comers fizzling out. He has yet to reveal the identity of his backers but was due to meet Ellis over the weekend. The news that Neville was preparing a bid brought Lerner's plans out into the open after he had been in talks with Ellis two weeks earlier. Neville said he had to move quickly with his bid and, when Lerner arrived in Birmingham three days later, it was easy to see why. Lerner's wealth was clearly a strong selling point with fans anticipating big-money signings at Villa Park. But talks broke down and Wednesday turned into something of a procession with TV cameras spotting Still leaving Villa Park. In the meantime, Neville was making his plans known in a series of interviews in which he stressed that he was a Villa fan trying to work in the best interests of the club. Padfield was a late arrival to the race on Friday but it seems Still has taken huge strides towards taking over from Ellis. Now it remains to be seen which of the remaining bids Ellis favours. And it has to be made clear that the chairman cannot let personal favourites get in the way of his judgement. Whatever bid he believes is the best one for shareholders, that is the one he has to go with. But the worrying aspect to this is that it is all being done in the public gaze. Stock Exchange officials, who put strict rules in place about what can and cannot be said during a takeover bid, must be tearing their hair out. When Roman Abramovich took over at Chelsea, it was done under cover of darkness and was a done deal before anyone had a chance to work out what was happening. The only trouble is that deal made the prospect of big-money owners moving in on Premiership chairmen a realistic option, particularly at Villa where Ellis has made no secret of his decision to sell up. At times behind the scenes this week, the race for Villa has been grubby and unsavoury - something that, like the messy parting with O'Leary, does the club no favours.
  14. Yeah but Ellis would get round it by saying Lerner apparently never actually put in an official bid for AVFC...however the statement does mention "negotiations" and that Rothchilds are present at ALL meetings - so yes I think the statement is an apology & a reassurance that protocol & proper regulatory procedure will be adhered to from now on and that Ellis can kiss goodbye to any special deals Oh I Soooooo hope Lerner DOES indeed take control with a wry smile and an instant dislike of all things Ellis!! Heck soon I might not EVER have to drive under that hideous "Doug Ellis Stand" sign on Witton Road again. But then that's another thread..........
