  1. Why has a separate thread been started for this? :?
  2. Of course, some of us worry about people thinking we look small time more than others do. Me? I couldn't care less! 8 points!
  3. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. Now that all the evidence has been gone over time and time again and been discussed, aren't some people clever (and one or two bloody rude)!
  4. Also he quite deliberately aimed at the wrong board for the last throw, which for me was dangerously close to taking the piss.
  5. Oh my giddy aunt, quick, name Pearce or Shearer or ANYBODY, Van Gaal wants the job.
  6. True SR. And to be fair I'm talking about things that happened some time back. We had a few thousand Celtic fans in Valencia not so many years ago and they made a lot of noise before, during and even the day after the match but trouble was notable for its absence. Of course the highest profile and most shameful events of all were down to England fans at the Eire v England match of about 10 years ago which had to be abandoned.
  7. And England fans would never dream of doing such a thing. Nice how you're blaming the Scots in advance for any public disorder which might occur, when recent history would seem to suggest it's not us that has a problem anymore. You're quite right. But I said what I said just in case anyone couldn't remember or didn't know why the Home Championship was abolished in the first place (and I think there were other reasons too, unrelated to hooliganism). And the reason or excuse for discontinuing it was on the "advice" of the London Metropolitan Police, and the 4 FAs agreed to discontinue the Home International Championship largely because every 2 years it meant England having to play Scotland at Scotland's national stadium, that is to say Wembley, where English fans were generally outnumbered. We didn't sing too loud or get behind the team with too much passion either - we wanted to get home in one piece. English hooliganism was in those days restricted to club football and had yet to reach its peak. No doubt events at Villa Park in 1976 (?) were a result of the lack of a once-every-two-years visit to Wembley. I don't deny that the Scots put their house in order far quicker than the English did. You could say that now in 2007 the England fans behave far better than they did 10 or 15 years ago. I still think a Home Championship would be looked at by the Police as a recipe for disaster. Can you seriously imagine English fans arriving in Glasgow over 24 hours before a Scotland v England clash and drinking the place dry? After a few drinks the Police would have to be moved in to PROTECT them. Any English who even dreamt of trying such a thing would need their heads examining!
  8. Must admit the old ticker skipped a couple of beats when I read this: Wait for it! Doh! click
  9. No one old enough to remember when thousands and thousands of Jocks used to start arriving roaring drunk in London around Thursday tea-time and laying the centre waste? No one remember when Rangers played a friendly at Villa Park. For football reasons yes, great. In the public interest a resounding NO.
  10. By the way, it isn't a poison chalice, it's a poisoned chalice.

  12. 1310: GOAL Birmingham 0-1 Aston Villa Dear, oh dear. A horrible moment for Blues captain Liam Ridgewell as he scores an own goal to put his former club into an early lead. The ball comes in from the right from Stiliyan Petrov and Ridgewell, rather awkwardly, just sticks out a knee. The ball flies off into the corner of the goal with Maik Taylor rooted to the spot. Villa fans are singing "there's only one Liam Ridgewell". Not what he wants to hear.
  13. For those who dearly want Villa to win, get the 3 points and smash the shit out of sha, solidarity. For those who feel a win be "so positive", happy that there'll be even more people "enjoying the ride", with a resulting increase in "the feelgood factor", due to the "Great PR"... well, enjoy. :?
  14. I particularly liked the Hogg (8.) etc, not least the carefully placed full stop .
  15. A tip. If they ever do get introduced and it is stipulated that you can get arrested for not carrying your ID card with you even when you take the rubbish out... always carry your ID card. That way you won't get arrested. Works every time. But what about the erm, older members of the community, who may struggle to remember? If you are one such and you have this problem you can tie your ID card to the end of your erm, knob. As far as I'm concerned. Hilariously funny as always though.
