  1. Not really. The only circumstance that matters is they have 80 more MPs to vote for what they are told to vote for.
  2. I suppose if there is any joy to be taken from this embarrassing charade, it'll be watching one bunch of ***** ripping shreds out of another bunch of *****.
  3. The logic is that if you need to pop out of the house for lunch, or a coffee, or a break then you are going to your local shops and cafes rather than Pret or Subway in the town / city centre. Whether it's true or not I have no idea, but that's the theory.
  4. Who, or what, is a Chunkz?
  5. Wales too - in todays updated rules.
  6. Don't forget that Wales has different regulations. As things stand, I think you're fine. We've got a camping trip in Wales next weekend with a bunch of other families which we're hoping will still work out. Edit - scrap that, the rules changed today. Life comes at you fast.
  7. I guess there is always somebody smaller than you getting itchy feet...
  8. (German ambassador to the UK) I imagine BMW are riding the UKs rescue right now, as promised.
  9. I think you're overestimating how much cut-through this sort of thing has outside of niche corners of the Internet. I reckon for every ten random people asked about this subject, one will be furious, one will be elated, one will be neither of those but will find it interesting, three won't really care and four won't care to such an extent that they don't even know that it's happening. And if they did they wouldn't care.
  10. That's basically it - it's similar to ministerial direction. So if a minister wants to do something that directly contradicts civil service advice then they are asked to put in writing to "direct" the civil servant to do it. Meaning it's on the record that it was the politician wot done it and the staff can't be blamed when it goes wrong. This is basically Jonathan Jones doing that for the whole civil service. Or the legal department anyway. I'm sure that @Mandy Lifeboats will be able to correct my layman's interpretation if I have that wrong...
  11. I expect the laughter in Tehran can be heard across the country.
  12. Mum, Dad and three kids going for a walk in the park with the children's grandparents = illegal Me, having the lads from six-a-side football round after the game for a piss-up in the kitchen before they all go back to their own houses = absolutely fine. Perfectly logical.
  13. I'm just glad that there are no other imminent economic catastrophes that the Government has deliberately placed in their in-tray for that time period. I mean, that would be really crazy.
  14. The solution they had from 1998 until 2016 seemed to do a pretty decent job.

    U.S. Politics

I completely agree that politically it's worse for him this way. I was talking morally.

While anything that makes it more likely that he's booted out in eight weeks is A Good Thing, I'd wonder about the journalistic ethics of sitting on that information while tens of thousands of people were dying because it's better timing to use it to promote your book.

    U.S. Politics

Christian Tybring-Gjedde, a far-right MP in Norway. He nominated him in 2018 as well.

    U.S. Politics

No, you didn't. An MP in Norway has nominated him for it.
  19. So, in the name of the Internal Market Act, a minister is able, unscrutinized by Parliament, to override... ...any law at all. That sounds sensible.

    U.S. Politics

Sure, but this isn't the best example of "people in charge" She ran for Congress and got 1.8% of the vote.
  21. I only watched the first half, but from what I saw, I agree. Hopefully it's just a blip.
  22. That would be the logical explanation. The logical solution would seemingly be to send completed tests to a lab with capacity, rather than human beings to a test site in the vicinity of a lab with capacity. Particularly when you consider that you're likely having a test done because you suspect you might have the virus - for anyone relying on public transport, I'm not sure that "travel halfway across the country and back surrounded by other people" is that great an idea for a potentially contagious person.
