  1. I actually think December is okay and probably the month where we can pick up with the most points. And we'll need those points because of the inevitable slide down the table from the start of April onwards. Either way, I'd just like to not be involved in the last day of the season for once. not in a Tim Sherwood/Remi garde way, though...
  2. All this talk of Tammy needs to remember that he is just a box player, and the reason why he was so prolific for us was that we were a team creating chances, and plenty of them, in the Championship. If he comes in we need to ensure that we have the right players in, and a team that will guarantee that we will create the 6 or 7 chances needed to try and get at least 1 in. I don't think we'll be there next season so we need someone who is able to also create for themselves. tammy is a player for 2 seasons down the road, not now.
  3. Although I respect your wife jonjon, I'd love it if you were just a 20 year-old. That would amuse me no end. Anyway, given how much you've fleeced us on transfer fees recently is the new stadium named after us? Or a stand at least?
  4. Yeah I'd look at rb before lb although I agree we need more depth at lb. Funny how a rb is always seen as capable at covering lb, too, but never the other way round.
  5. NOne or two ex-Villa players I'd consider. The first is Ashley Young. he's on lona at inter and of course would be on a fair bit of wedge but if Inter aren't going to buy then it's clear Man u are keen to move him on. That leaves us with an (albeit small) opening. There will be little option for him in the current top 6 or Wolves in 7th. Arsenal? possibly by Tierney has upped his game and they won't have him down their left. So, he's looking further down the chain given his age. I think we could tempt him if we could persuade jack to stay. I'm not saying playing him at wing-back as I think targett has done enough to give him the shirt next season. But left-mid/wing? I think that there's a spot their for him. I know this would really split opinion but depending on his injuries I would look at delph. Would he improve our squad depth? Absolutely. If he's now permanently injured then no point but, Delph or Nakamba?
  6. Not sure that's accurate because one of the biggest criticisms of wesley other than his goals was his apparent reluctance to shed some sweat for the team. He never run the channels and didn't look to put defenders under pressure. He was getting more up to speed before the injury and given his age there's every chance he can improve to be the forward we want.
  7. Let's be honest, celebrating not being relegated is not something any wants to really be part of. many of the players will be feeling relief rather than elation, and yes probably slightly awkward over celebrating being less of a failure than 3 other clubs. But as I said before the togetherness is still there which is good to see as we continue to build. The feelgood factor can continue. The photo of targett, Grealsih, and McGinn in a car is an important one given that there were photos of them together going out earlier in the season (their Tuesday night out singles club or something). 3 of them are mates and if we had have gone all 3 may have been at different clubs next season. of course they still may, but for now let the mates celebrate that in a fast-paced moving around industry they are still able to be mates at the same club.
  8. I think the defending him bit is largely how he occupied defenders and ran the channels which to his credit he was excellent at, despite providing little goal threat and not being able to hold the ball up for the large part. but he did harry defenders and move them around. When davis would come off the bench he would use his extra muscle and power against tiring defenders creating more chances for the midfielders. it worked better than Davis starting and then bringing Samatta on. You have to applaud the coaches for tactically getting it right.
  9. How are they the same? Wesley and Samatta are nothing remotely similar in how they play. samatta likes the ball played into the box in the air, which is nothing like what Davis or Wesley like. The similarities that you see are largely down to the fact that we have one up front, and the manager asks them to play a similar way tactically, in terms of bringing players in.
  10. The players are celebrating that dream is still alive. the building of momentum from the Championship and we are still in it together. We built a strong bond as fans/players/management through the past few seasons - especially under Smith - and it was vital we didn't let that go. Remember the scenes with the players singing together with their friends and families after derby, still in their Villa gear, and tell me you didn't smile when you saw those scenes replicated yesterday? yes, we've won nothing, but we could have lost a great deal more. let them enjoy, because form today the hard work starts again.
  11. We bought in Baston to sit on the bench when we were short, what's wrong with New Super Striker - Wesley - Samatta - Davis?
  12. To be fair I thought he did get himself around a bit and did run the channels. As for the scoring side - what you want - its difficult to remember too many chances we created for him. One header yesterday but other than that? its not like he's missing chances left right and centre, as Wesley did before his injury.
  13. regarding the celebrations; i'm not sure why their are so many curmudgeons trying to dip their toes into the cesspool of gloom. For most of these players they have either neither played in the top flight prior to this and could see their opportunity going, or they had something to prove from the previous time in the prem (Grealish/Mings). Reina is a winner and came in to do a job and since confirming Nyland will never play for us again he has certainly done that. A few player shout outs: Elmo - played the last few games like an upgraded Hutton and was dependable. I think he'll be released but thanks - you were better than i thought. And he delivers a peach of a cross. Konsa - started to look like a Prem player when he got his chance post lockdown. Hause - shit trying to attack corners, but once in a back two with mings he was rock solid. Targett - thought he got better linking up down the left and was also a threat with his runs in and around the opposition area. Surprisingly good in the air too (as is Elmo). Trezeguet - put in a shift, scored some vital goals, and fully deserved the shirt. Hourihane - by playing the team shape looked a lot better, and of course his delivery when working, was a potent threat. Sadly, its a thanks for the contribution though, but time to move him on. davis - didn't score and very rarely looked like he would, but held the ball up excellently and was a great 'out' man. We have to build on this now.
  14. I agree with sarr - we need pace and he has bags of it. A forward is a must and although tammy is a good shout we need to be able to create chances as he's not the type of player to do that. So Benhrama possibly also. defender and midfielder also needed. Nathan Ake if the rumours of Man City aren't true. I like Max Aarons also and an upgrade on Guilbert who I'd keep in reserve. Pukki may not be a bad shout, but we also have wesley so need one more as I doubt we'd tempt Tammy especially with the wages he'll be on. I don't know who but there will be someone from some European league who will fit. Time for the scouts to step up.
  15. So, heaton in goal, somone like Cafu and roberto carls as full-backs, centre-halves of Mings and oh I don't know Ramos? Old fella at Real madrid. Sure he'd love to come. Kimmich next to McGinn with Mbappe on the right and Sancho on the left cutting in. Luiz as the link and lewandowski up front. we'll shit the championship next season. Bring it on.
  16. If we were to stay up I'd go out and get Talisca who was sold by besiktas to China in jan 2019. Attacking midfielder with bags of class and can score. The only reason he went in 2019 was besiktas were forced to sell because they were mired in financial troubles as were a host of teams in the Turkish top flight. he is a seriously good player and would be a great player to have. Tall as well.
  17. I still think we'll go and it doesn't help that whenever I log onto the Beeb site, Aubameyang still isn't injured.
  18. Wooooahhhhhhhhhh there...no. Too close.
  19. New England. mainly (only) because they have 'England' in their name. Been following them since 84 when American football first came to C4. I have no deep interest in the sport so I've been thrilled to see their dominance really as I remember listening to them lose in 86 v Chicago (46-10) on Forces radio. The first team I actually followed were New York Jets until I noticed a team called New England, so I also have a soft spot for them.
  20. nonsense and balls. Are we that unable to get a fluid from a bottle to a receptacle that we have to contort our wrists? Pfft. Its twee and anyone doing it should have their hands amputated from the wrist.
  21. The way some people pour wine and then have to do that 180 turn thing with their wrist to stop the flow. What's the point of that? i am confident that i can pour a drink and not have to swivel anything to ensure full capacity of said remaining drink is still in the bottle. And it's never done, ever, for any other drink poured. no-one swivels the bottle of milk; gin; piss sample. Stop doing it you **** clearings in the woods.
