Maybe, maybe not! Look how many midfielders we have but apparently we are after another one. I don’t necessarily disagree but at the same time I could still imagine Archer going on loan, Davis going and then us having Ollie, Danny and a new striker for the season. We know the club take opportunities when they arise, it doesn’t have to be the right timing. I also don’t think they’d leave us in lurch of selling somebody and risk a deal collapsing for a new striker. I think they’ll get the a striker in and then sell one, whether it’s this window or a later one. I’m not convinced Gerrard is happy with his current options.

I’m sure Lange and his team have a list of those players.

Ok we’ll have to agree to disagree. Yes a baby affects life but for his job, while an excuse it’s not an acceptable excuse to his performance. He has to make sure it didn’t affect his performance if that’s what he did. We disagree that he didn’t underperform last season, he plainly did but everybody has opinions. I still think we need another striker. I’m not convinced the baby thing is an issue despite ur discussion, I’m worried he just had a one off season two seasons ago and without Grealish he’s not the same player. I think we need another, better striker.

Yeah but if players don’t perform they will be replaced, no matter what the excuse is. I don’t really think anybody thinks footballers are non-human it’s just at the elite they are playing, the money they are paid, everything is about 100%. Slightly below that means losing. You think anybody cares if a boxer has a baby if he loses or a top male athlete gets bronze instead of gold at the Olympics because he had a baby. The fans look for performance and entertainment, the sponsors are less generous in sponsorships for not the sportsperson that are winning. Plus most of these players are having families, not just one or two but a large portion, they aren’t all affected if that’s the excuse being used for Ollie.

He’s not going to get any time with us of any note. He’s not PL quality at our level, at best he’ll sit on the bench because he hasn’t been sold or loaned out. I expect he’ll be loaned out later in the window.

Hate it, can’t even put my finger on why either.

Yeah but Dean never played him even when I Davis’ biggest critic thought he should be tried in the second half of the 20/21 season. I’m not convinced Smith rates him enough and include his big wages for a championship club and injury record then it’s probably a no go, same will be for Beale at QPR.
-
Problem is there is always going to be factors that affect, he needs to develop a harder skin otherwise he’s going to be not enough for us. A second baby, a family issue, favourite coaches leaving, friends/players leaving the club, new players taking spotlight in forward positions from him like Bailey/Archer this season, injuries or whatever. I’m not convinced it’s all this though, I worry the first season was a one off assisted massively by Grealish making him look good. I hope we are after a new striker this summer because I’m not convinced he also fits Gerrard’s system anyway. A season of frustration in front of the goal is not something I’m looking forward to otherwise.

So the baby is not a year old yet, so we say ok if it continues this season. We are paying him millions per year, at what point are outside influences to his job whether reasonable or not can be acceptable? It’s a reasonable question given the money involved both to him and us in the league? Life isn’t always about money but football is about absolute peak performance and the slight margins make amazing differences in this league.

The question we’ll find out this season is whether last season was the anomaly or the season before. Is Ollie as good as the first season or is he limited like the second season and the first season was the exception.

So we suffer because he’s had a kid? We have to take into account he’s not going to be 100% because he’s had a kid? Wonder if he’s wanting a second kid, we’ll lower our expectations that season when he does.

I’m sorry but I don’t agree with this. The Ollie of last season was not the same as the first season.

Yeah the amount of times a player gets MOTM despite a poor game yet scores a late goal so gets the match honour.

While I agree somewhat I would adjust. When you’re having a good season your flaws are ignored/forgiven but when you’re having bad season you’re flaws are more obvious and more part of the problem which furthers fans frustration. I agree he’s not exclusively the only one with a bad touch around the league but he’s our only one and he’s our main striker and his positive attributes aren’t showing up for what seems a long time.

Come off it, his first touch is poor. Even when he was flying the first season, we said his first touch was poor but his other skills far outweighed that but last when his other skills were less prevalent last season that first touch really stood out.

Yep, this is where I am at. Hopefully still some more quality incomings to help us. I have a feeling this is going to be long frustrating season.

Excellent, I qualify, I was born there. As for the Air Force, I’m not so sure, I knew a lot of kids that got high when I was young so you probably mean that

Or Leeds the season before, or Sheff Utd the season before that. The point being there recently seems to be a surprise package that comes out the gate after promotion and if we don’t get our act together, that team whether Forest or another could finish above us if we perform points wise like last season. We just need to look after ourselves to make sure that doesn’t happen….but it’s not a joke that it could easily happen

I agree. I think the latest Thor movie has put me off Marvel for a short period of time because trying to be too funny at the expense of the film and this looks the same. I’ll obviously watch it and hopefully be in a better frame of mind for it and hopefully the film delivers as well.
