I think we'll break our transfer record twice, one by a large margin. Probably sign about 6 players of varying costs. A winger, a striker, Guendouzi will happen, a backup keeper, a first choice right back and another centre half to replace another outgoing one. Possible First XI: Martinez, Foyth, Torres, Carlos, Moreno, Kamara, Luiz, Guendouzi, Ramsey, Thuram, Williams

Acceleration > top speed. The players who seem the fastest are the ones who get to their top speed soonest. Often a centre half may have a faster top sprinting speed than a winger or striker, but they take too long getting to it and are left for dead. Bailey is rapid. There may be a few faster accelerating players around though. I love him though. He's fast enough.

For the record, I'm calm AF. We'll do some business before the window closes. And we definitely need to try and qualify for Europe this season if possible. Keeping the likes of Kamara depends on it. That said, we're ahead of schedule in Emery's rebuilding - in terms of results if not personnel - so if we don't make it this season, complete the rebuild in the summer and, as Paddy Losty would say, go at it awful and very hard.

I find the angle that both players want to stay in Spain a little dubious. Of course its possible but PL is the place to be, Emery is a top manager and Villa is a massive club with momentum. They'll earn way more money. The "wants to stay in LA Liga" caveat seems trotted out in almost every article now.

We had exactly what we needed in Watkins and Ings. Unfortunately in two players, not one. If we could have mashed them together to make one player - perhaps a la Weird Science using Watkins and Ings action figures, some random electrical components and a Commodore 64 - we could have Watkings, superstriker. Knowing our luck he'd have Ings' pace and mobility and Watkins' finishing.

I wonder if we are bringing in a winger who can play striker if we really are relaxed about signing Dembele now or in the summer. Because we 100% need a striker now. Maybe our stance is for Lyon to think we don't mind waiting until summer so don't take the piss. As for Dembele. He's a good player, no doubt. Probably isn't the elite level striker we're dreaming of but we might need to secure a top 8 position first before we convince one to come.
