  1. I'm not so sure on that. Given started the first 2 league games but was dropped after the Everton game. Guzan played LC against tranmere kept a clean sheet and made some great saves earlier in the season. the roles reversed after that. Even in the 8-0 to Chelsea Guzan saved a penalty and made numerous good saves to keep the score down. I'm not saying Given is a bad keeper or knocking him at all. he did ok last year I suppose. But personally I've never been THAT convinced of him either here or at Newcastle or Man City. The only problem for me is that you're basing this on something you saw years ago rather than what's happening now. I understand what you're saying about giving him a break, but we did that and went out of 2 cups in a week as has been said before. Also the lad's been waiting years to get a chance here and really impressed when he was given that chance. On top of that I still think Man City did better out of us signing him than we did. Given is no Enkleman for sure, but he's not in the same class as Spink, Bosnich, Schmeichel or Friedel for me, and my heart would pick Sealey and Guzan ahead of him too. My heads hurting thinking about our defensive problems. Think I have to give up and accept there is no easy fix. The easy fix would have been spending a bit on a CB and LB in January. Those are the real problem areas.
  2. First learn stand, then learn fly.
  3. Never thought I would say this, but I hope he comes back at some point. Lambert did not sound optimistic about his chances of playing for Villa again.
  4. Sorry, but this is a ridiculous line of thought. Given does not organize defense or control the penalty area. In fact, it is his primary weakness. Change for the sake of change does not improve anything.
  5. I still think we are going down, but I am slightly more optimistic after the last three matches. We should have beat WBA, a solid top half team. We should have drawn Newcastle, a team I think will kick on up the table after signing real quality, backed up by the win against Chelsea. We should have beaten Everton, a team with real designs on a CL spot. I know shoulda, coulda, woulda means absolutely jack shit, but in the scope of this horrific season, it is something to hold on to. I really think if we could just win a game, things would turn around. I know the players have the same reaction the fans do when we go up a goal or two. "How are we going to **** this up." One win could alter or, hopefully, eliminate that mindset, which would then make it a bit easier to hold onto leads.
  6. I actually thought he looked decent. A couple interceptions and was anything but anonymous. People are saying the two bad tackles were a bad thing, but I do not see it that way. Sure he was late and will have to adjust to the speed of the Premier League, but at least he was there and challenging for the ball. If you make an attacker know you are there and willing to put in a challenge, they are much more likely to make mistakes, misplace a pass, ect. We have not had player consistently doing that for a while now. He and Delph in the same midfield might be a red card waiting to happen, but I bet it will be a midfield much harder to pass through.
  7. I think it is a good change, but the system needs to change too.
