  1. I think people are under estimating how good Downing is TBH (more so Liverpool fans who think we have raped them for £20m ) I was never a fan of his when he was at Boro but last season he was a class above anyone else at Villa Park ... Watching him burn past Ashley Cole at VP like Cole was running in treacle I never realised just how quick he was until that point .. for sure there were a couple of times when he didn't put his foot in when he should have but other than that he is a very skilful and intelligent player and his departure is a big big loss to us
  2. to my knowledge Johnson was never an option though , was he ?
  3. General I'm one of those fans who currently will be staying away from VP due to the McLeish appointment , tbh being from out of town the AM / Blues link didn't 't bother me , it was more about the lack of ambition his appointment showed ..... convince me otherwise ... With £36m raised in transfers + sky money + new Sponsor deal I'm sure I am not alone in looking forward to seeing who we are going to spend our close on £50m transfer fund on
  4. i shall be there myself in just under 3 weeks time :-) nowt to do with the thread just thought you'd all like to know :-)
  5. Calling Tone Loc! How long have you got :winkold:
  6. probably the wrong thread but Brown was certifiably bonkers and nothing to do with Murdoch and his press coverage .. I don't doubt he was genuine in his motives and we could do with more people with genuine morals like his ..but to sum him up as deluded and bonkers is being far to kind to him
  7. Saw today's Sun headline and assumed we had moved back to discussing the economy ... But turns out that we are still on the hacking thing !!
  8. I'm fairly sure that Redknapp pursued him for a few years and the rumour was that we stitched him up to sign Downing from under his nose (made out that a deal for Young was possible , or something) of course that could just be internet rumours but I seem to recall that Harry left a Spurs pre season friendly half way through the game when he got wind of our deal but it was already too late
  9. well seeing as we are pretty much a selling club these days I suppose one view would be £4m for a keeper with zero resale value and maybe 2 or 3 seasons in him , assuming he can stay fit £8m for Foster with potentially 10 years at the club as Number 1 or fair chance of breaking even on transfer / making money on him overlooking the clowns in charge of our clubs ideas , in terms of ability and longevity I think I'd take Foster personally
  10. Arrogant, naive, or stupid? I'd say Ashdown was a bit of all 3
  11. Just watched The Flying Scotsman about Graeme Obree and his world records and battle with the wcf Truly inspirational person and a shame he isn't as worldwide a name as someone like Chris Boardman
  12. Sorry Gringo but the last few pages gave examples of where labour had tried to make out they didn't cosy up to Murdoch or even that it stopped with Blair.. So asking in what capacity Brown attended the wedding is a fair question
  13. Didn't Brown attend Brooks wedding... Not because he personally wanted so almost as if he was there in an official capacity .... Wonder if he was representing his party or his country ? Glad to see Baldwin finally getting dragged into this now , should stop red Ed trying to act all holy
  14. Indeed they did. , Thanks Rupert :-)
  15. no not really , i was just being my usual cynical self thing is Renault have to advertise with the people that are going to get them exposure , if they advertise in the local Parish news they wont really get their message across ... so whilst its making a stand it's a rather tame one as they don't appear to be removing themselves from the entire Murdoch Empire ..because like our MP's they probably know that they need Murdoch more than Murdoch needs them
  16. Wonder if the decision was made based on how much exposure this cheap publicity stunt will give them or if they did it for genuine reasons
  17. Zog wasn't playing as a winger for most of last season was he ? thought he was playing that "in the hole" role that Ash played in for much of last season ?
  18. those are quite worrying (if true) would suggest that Guzan could end up playing 20+ matches and he really isn't cut out for the Prem
  19. Just watched "Solo" about Andrew McAuley and his attempt to paddle the Tasman sea in a kayak a tale of defiance in the face of responsibility and common sense quite heartbreaking to watch really , as he set off it's almost as though he knew he was going to die
  20. why ? because he is the latest in a long line of politicians to get into bed with news Int .. X-factor starts again at some point soon , give it a few weeks and the majority of the public will be more interested in some talentless boy / girl than they will be in any phone hacking scandal ...
  21. Of course it is. You don't defend someone by pointing out that someone else may be dodgy, too. who was defending anyone , i was merely pointing out that people with designs on power can't always chose the company they keep ...
  22. David Cameron is a horrible corrupt little man, hopefully this has shown the Tory supporters what type of people they actually support. These events really aren't anything to do with Cameron who wasn't in office at the time ... (nor are they anything to do with the previous government for that matter ) , and it was quite shameful to see Milliband using Milly Dowler to try and score points yesterday (though if it comes to light NoTW were hacking David Kellys phone then someone will be in a shit load of trouble ) Out of interest do you have details of Camerons involvement in the hacking or some corruption he is involved in ,like i don't know maybe selling peerages for donations or failing to register agreements to accept regular donations from trades unions etc etc ? Cameron's responsibility is spelt out quite well in the Oborne piece I quoted on p11. It's interesting that Cameron's adviser was fully briefed by the Guardian editor about things that Coulson was involved with which couldn't yet be put in the public domain, and appointed him anyway. As he admitted yesterday, he must accept full responsibility for the staff he appoints. A tory MP was on Newsnight last night, saying that Cameron had asked Coulson about these events before appointing him, and had accepted his assurances at face value. I'm afraid that just won't wash. Coulson could well be the key , but there are still a lot of pointers to suggest that he wasn't involved (just as there are pointers to say that he was) .... a lot rests on finding the smoking gun on Coulson i guess
  23. indeed , though politicians often keep company with evil so again hardly a stick to beat someone with
