  1. How about Martinez then? Has he passed your Premiership acid test? No because each and every year without fail he is useless bar the last 3 or 4 games. Here's some stats for this season Villas biggest win v Wigan Wolves biggest win v Wigan Seasons prior Spurs 9-1 Wigan Chelsea 8-0 Wigan Martinez can do one He had some bloody good results too, i.e. beating United and kept them up 3 seasons now. People have to agree though that he struggles to motivate the same group of players for the first 20-25 games of the season. If we want him as manager, we have to ask why this is.
  2. Ditto ^ Said the same before and got 'attacked' on here for saying it. He is shite and he really does not give a shit. Puts 80% effort in at most and for one excellent pass he does about 5 shit ones per game. Get rid off him. Prefer Bannan to be honest :bonk: Bannan better than Ireland. Yeah that little guy that knocks 60 yard passes to the opposition. Good call I'm no Ireland lover - imo shit is a bit extreme but so are the calls for our team to be built around him. As for Bannan Championship player at best He's our best player/most technically gifted, why would you not want to build a team around him?? Because he hasn't proven anything in Villa colours for 2 years. To build a team around such a player, it's a huge call. You said earlier about giving him no position etc..and let him roam. He has scored 1 goal and has 3 assists or something in his 2 seasons at the club! Clearly he has improved but do you put the whole teams attacking and defensive structure around a player who has yet to prove he can do it. We'd need 10 goals, 10 assists and consistently our best player over the season, is he that man? I don't know. He didnt play in his natural position once last season that i can remember. We have not come anywhere near to seeing the best from Stephen Ireland. If we get someone in like Martinez who wants to play attacking free flowing football, i would expect Ireland would be the first person he would sit down with and tell him his plans. If Villa fans want to return to playing nice, attractive, attacking football...which we all do, then Stephen Ireland is essential to that. Lets not kid ourselves, to replace Stephen Ireland with someone else who has his vision and technical ability, you are talking in excess of £10-12m. Bar Bent, I don't think theres a single player in the squad that is worth anywhere near 10-12m based on performances last season.

Well then surely other clubs will be in for him this summer? Any other decent players we've had have been off so surely Ireland will be as well?
  4. Sorry are we talking about the Norwich academy?? What players have they ever produced that now play in the premier league? And then lets look at the villa academy, which constantly is breeding players that play in the premiership. Take note champions league final on Saturday: Gary Cahill. A class my arse.

Puts 80% effort in at most and for one excellent pass he does about 5 shit ones per game. Get rid off him. Prefer Bannan to be honest Yeah its a effort issue for me. People keep banging on about him being more talented than the rest of the squad. That may be true, but when you can't be arsed, it doesn't make a single bit of difference.
  6. Aside from Bent, there's no-one who wouldn't be allowed to leave if a good offer came in. And I'd extend that to Bent if someone offered 18m+, which they won't. Ideally the following would leave: Guzan, Cuellar, Heskey, Delfoneso, Delph, Collins, Warnock, Bannan, Gabby (We need the money). And sign a new back-up keeper, 3/4 new defenders, 2 centre mids and 2 strikers. I feel Holman is (hopefully) a good addition to midfield as well. I personally wouldn't mind Scott Dann, Guthrie, Leon Best etc. They'd improve on what we've got at the minute.
  7. So what if we had spoke to him? Maybe the board are just compiling a list of candidates who would be interested? Makes sense to talk to the ones unattached first. We don't want a situation like last year where we missed out on a good manager like Hughton, who was free and available. Every avenue should be explored (although like I've said in another thread, if it was down to me I'd go for Lambert end of!)
  8. I'm probably alone on here in thinking Ireland has been shite once again last season. How he got player of the season is a joke and is beyond me. However, with 2 strong CM's behind him, I could definitely see him doing well playing support striker behind a finisher like Bent. Note 2 strong CM's does NOT mean Herd and Clark! We need 2 quality signings there.
  9. Like he did with N'Zogbia? Lets not get screwed again.
  10. There's one name on my list and its Lambert. The guy works miracles. Can't find a single negative on him unlike every other man out there.
  11. I agree- why can't Martinez motivate his players for the other 28 games per season?
  12. But if your wage bill is 50m and you only get crowds of around 15,000, that leaves little for transfer fees.
  13. I was always under the impression is was more baggies wolves mostly, say 40% each and the remaining 20% mainly villa, but still dwarfed by the yammers?
  14. I've heard it from very close to the player that he is desperate for a move this summer, 3rd manager in a row that has told him he's not big enough for the PL.
  15. Not even close, McLeish 20k per week AVB +£120k per week Your maths is wrong. Its widely agreed McLeish is on £2m per year which is more like 40k per week, 20k would be approx. £1m. So getting rid of him would cost around £4m, a major stumbling block considering we already coughed up as much to get him released from Blose.
  16. I would be surprised is McLeish wasn't our manager come the first game of the season (in front of a crowd of 25,000). Lerner is clearly concentrating his efforts on getting out the club, he won't be arsed with sacking/finding a new manager.
  17. Pilkington will suffer from 2nd season syndrome next season (along with most of the Norwich squad) and Snodgrass is average, very average. I fear for villa whoever the manager is- we haven't got the money to sign anyone quality.
  18. If we could get 3m+, I would happily see Collins sold.
  19. Dont like to comment on politics threads but honestly that is the dumbest statement I have ever read. x10
  20. They really do lack class don't they. Step ups on a war memorial? What a shit country Argentina is, I'd be embarrassed if I was one of them.
  21. I love it how so many villa fans are defending them over this... and they're the same people who refer to Lee Hendrie at a pr*ck and everything else- he was no different to this lot. I'm a pretty heavy drinker, drink most days of the week and would describe myself as 'pissed' at least once a week- and I've given up the sauce for the next month as I've got my final uni exams and want a fresh head. And I certianly don't recieve thousands of punds a week in encouragement to do that.
  22. No way should they be out drinking at this stage of the season. The season is over in just over a week- they've got all summer to go out and get pissed. Disgraceful. I want Collins out.
  23. Our plays are always out on the lash- in between vital games this season I've seen our youngsters out numerous times (wasted) and I've seen one of our most senior players out (not so wasted). The discipline at villa is crap.
  24. Based on?? He plays more outfield games than almost anyone at City. He bossed the game at VP back in Feb. He'll go on to play another 70+ games for City over the next 2 seasons, the guy is top drawer. I'd have back (in order): Cahill Barry Milner Gardner Luke Young (We'd have been far more solid down the right side if he had been made to stay). Wouldn't take Ash back, he never seemed to perform towards the end and Downing is a turncoat who can rot at Liverpool for all I care.
