  1. Are people still harping on about this? 25+ years after they increased the amount of teams. The old European Cup was a joke. Have you seen some of Liverpool's runs to win it? Beating absolute shit and even a bye. They changed it for the reasons you said, that the UEFA Cup was harder to win (ignoring how you qualify of course) because you had to beat the second best teams in Italy or Spain instead of playing Ferencvaros and Sparta Prague. Increasing the amount of teams in the CL improved it exponentially. It became the elite European competition again. Yes its called the "Champions" League but who gives a ****? Semantic rubbish. UEFA have ballsed up a lot of things in their time but this wasn't one of them.
  2. You can say that about any league in the world. In fact any league of any sport in the world.
  3. We don't need it? We haven't won a trophy in 28 years, the longest drought in our entire history. Even if we qualify for the Champions League, what if we bomb out in the group stage like Newcastle? Winning trophies should be an absolute priority and it amazes me that any fans could think otherwise, given our horrendous record in this competitions in the last few decades and lack of silverware.
  4. With respect, only Villa fans care about that stuff. 99.9% of other fans wouldn't know or care that our name and colours have remained the same. This is a backwards, almost self important way of thinking. This is modern football. We are a business like any other and need to run the club from the profitability and marketing to the badge and branding, like a business. Notts County are the oldest professional club in the world. Who, really, gives a shit about that today? The only reason anyone outside of the UK has heard of them is because Juventus copied their colours and kit.
  5. No doubt. The star shouldn't be there. It's cringey and small time. The stars above badges for international sides that have won the World Cup look great. It shouldn't be used for European Cup wins from club teams.
  6. Well all of those teams brand their club better than we do so maybe you should care.
  7. We do but that wasnt my point. I was saying that we need to be more visual everywhere. I hate using the word "brand" but this is modern football. We need one to maximise our potential. Ok let me rephrase it. No-one should care about the 1874. Man Utd, Arsenal, Tottenham, Newcastle, West Ham, Chelsea do not have their founding year on their badges and all of them are nicer than ours. Liverpool do but that's no surprise and their badge is 25 years old.
  8. One thing I've noticed is I never see Villa shirts for sale anywhere outside of Birmingham. Not in Sports Direct, other sports stores. I don't even see Villa knockoffs in the markets. This is where people might say "well its only the CL clubs you see in stores". Not true. I've seen West Ham, Newcastle kits all over. Also, when I'm abroad, and I'm all over the place, I never see people wearing Villa shirts. The few times I have, it's been British Villa fans because I will always say UTV or whatever to someone if I see them. The point I'm making is our brand is non-existent. We have to improve this massively and this farce with the kits and the badge is torpedoing what attempts we've made, if any, of doing this.
  9. Absolutely this. No-one cares and it does nothing for the brand. It clogs up the badge with unnecessary info which most modern badges rightly avoid. All that needs to be on the badge, whatever its design is the lion and "Aston Villa".
  10. Ditch the 1874 and the star, make the name bigger and this would be pretty good.
  11. What approach? I didnt mention one.
  12. Watching the highlights again, the United #5 Auston Trusty just gives up tracking back for the opening goal, likely assuming Ollie had scored. There a million reasons why you should never do that. This allows McGinn to just waltz in and score a tap in. The manager should absolutely savage him for that.
  13. I obviously wasnt referring to the fans. "Our job as a team" means the players and coaching staff. You know, the team. It's a head coaches job to get results. But he cant control what a player does when he goes onto the pitch. Sooner or later, a player has to start playing well and he can only do that himself.
  14. It's not true. Did Collymore ever regain his form after leaving Liverpool? Did Torres? Hazard? Diego Costa? Kaka? It's a stupid cliche with little substance. Your class is only as good as your form. A better expression would just be "players come into and lose form".
  15. It's amazing how much swag he has. Everytime he gets the ball it's like he thinks he can do anything he likes and for the most, is doing exactly that. It's also crazy how teams are STILL letting him cut in and use that left foot to shoot across the goal. It's like Robben, you know its coming but its hard to stop.
  16. Did I say that? He can get minutes at the end of games, preferably ones we're winning nicely. Hopefully he comes good again. I hate the "form is temporary, class is permanent" cliche. It's categorically bullshit too. Sometimes players never get their form back at all or at the club they're at. The fact he's our record signing is irrelevant.
  17. He's had about 10 games to get firing. Our job as a team isnt to placate players to get them back into form, they need to do it themselves. We have to pick players who are going to make a difference. Atm, he is not that.
  18. You could make a very good, maybe even watertight, case that he our most important player.
  19. They were complete shite and played into our hands but there are no negatives tonight. Great win, great performance and important to see some out of form players have good games.
  20. Confidence and form have completely left him. Should only be used, like today, in games we have already won. I don't want him near a game where we need a goal atm.
  21. Come on Diaby ffs. If you cant fill your boots here, you never will.
  22. Imagine they’ll get a talking to at HT and they will tighten up to avoid further embarrassment
  23. The FA Cup has definitely lost its magic. These plucky lower league teams rarely cause giant killings anymore. Still, at least their fans have gotten a good day out and seen a top team in action.
