Thanks for the tips, I'm currently trying to get one and using the gateway trick to respawn different creatures until a Dinoceros comes along. I've fought about 10 so far but no luck in capturing as of yet.

Any tips on how to stop Esther from using up all her magic? Her AI is the shittest one for me. She is crap at defending herself and even though I have her set to heal, she rarely helps me out. She just never seems to have an MP after a couple of small battles and it's really annoying. Perhaps setting her tactic to heal is what makes her expend so much of her MP quickly. I'll have to have a tinker. Swaine set to provide backup seems to be working ok now he's in the mid 30's level wise. He's eventually catching up to Oliver and Esther, who are 40 and 39 respectively.

Caught me a Dinoceros and I metamorphosed it to the next level (which looks awesome) and I **** love the thing.

I've upped its accuracy a bit since that seemed to be where it was weakest and now I'm just on Ugly Duckling Isle hunting for Tokos. The fights with the rest of the familiars on the island are decent enough exp too, so I just fight anything, and Tokos can appear in the groups too. I've done some pretty decent levelling, just need to get my newly metamorphosed familiars up a bit higher and take on the magical stones quests. My characters are relatively high, Oliver is level 43, Esther 42 and Swaine just broke 40, so I'm on the right track I think.

I've also been to the casino and started winning a fair few rounds of Platoon and earning some chips. I bought the sword that's available there for all three of my familiars who use a sword and ended up buying 50 of the Pixie whateveritis that heals 200 HP of every party member, so I should be good for a while. It's actually quite a fun game too, and seems less rigged than the Blackjack.

You're right about that blackjack game, it's rigged to **** in the dealers favour.

I spent very very little time in the casino. After I got the 500k money trophy, I 'saved' a bit more while grinding in the final dungeon till I had ~700k. Then went and bought all the good casino stuff, including the post game things required for a trophy, just by buying credits. Barely played any of the casino games at all.

I think I've just about left it long enough now, and will prolly return to the game this week in my quest for the platinum

was on it till 3.30am and got killed in the final final battle! had another go this morning and did it, took something like 40hrs 24mins, loved it, story comes together brilliantly

no story spoilers but tip for the boss -

after it killed me the 1st time i went and got astra off horrace, made a huge difference, changed my familiars round so i had more attack all enemies tricks, grinded some tokocolds to get the new familiars about 5 levels higher and bought a ton of everything, pissed it in the end, astra was doing 500+ damage to everything so the little ball things that killed me the 1st time were taken care of

not sure if you noticed but they have added 2 free familiars to PSN, hopefully they'll add some more and not just gold ones

Ha, nice, I'm at 50 hours now but I've ben grinding for a while, it's just how I do JRPGs. I must have spent 90 hours on Final Fantasy X before I took on the final boss, I pissed that too.

I'm going to try and catch another Dinoceros. I metamorphosed my original one into a Catastroceros and I want Oliver to have the Destroceros too since they look bad-ass and are pretty damn tough and good damage dealers. I might even go overkill and catch two more and let Esther and Swaine have one too.

I finally levelled high enough to be comfortably taking on the enemies outside of Perdida so I've been Tokotoko hunting for a while now. You're right Hogso, they appear more frequently than the Tokos on Ugly Duckling Isle and they stick around for a bit longer in the battle too which is helpful, although Earsplitter and a few more multiple enemy attacks usually have them down in a couple of moves before they get the chance to escape. As soon as I get a few more Dinoceros, I'm right back there to level and then I can finally continue with the story.

Wait till you take on the (optional) souped up version! Proper tidy it is, mun.

I'm, uh, 80 hours in now. Went back to it today and got the 250 familiars trophy just the alchemy one to go!

Well, I may have over-levelled slightly for where I am in the game. Oliver, Esther and Swaine are all around level 65 and I have some pretty strong familiars I've been levelling up too. I took on one of the magic stones dungeons last night, the one near Castaway Cove and blew through it. The boss at the end must have taken me all of about 5 minutes, if that.

Mostly thanks to the resurgence of updates in this thread I've dived back in to the game a bit quicker than I thought I would. Farming for items for alchemy last night, I have only 7 or 8 items left to make. Be kind of sad when it's done, though, there will be no reason for me to go back to it ;_____; Shame it hasn't got a hard mode that unlocks after beating it once or something.

Got the platinum last night, yea~! It didn't actually take as long as I thought it would in the end, I even still have a couple of (relatively) easy recipes I could complete to take me to 122. The most difficult grinding by far was for Scrolls of Truth. **** bastard things, they are. You need them to not only get closer to the Mad Scientist trophy, but they are mandatory if you want to complete all the errands, and therefore get all the stamps and Olly-boys final upgrade. Although you could get that before the last errand, but I'm not sure why you would.

Took ~83 hours. What a wonderful, wonderful game. I will revisit it in a couple of years, perhaps. For now, though, it's loaned indefinitely to my brother for him to carry on with it.

Got every main character up to level 99, and ended up with a team consisting of Najapatra, Puss in Bouts (my personal favourite familiar), Demoliceros, Astralynx, Scrapdragon, Tundragorer, Fountainhead, Evil Idler, and Golden Dynamite all up to max level. Could actually go and grind the secret boss pretty easily by the end  ^___^;;

It's actually nothing to do with level at all. You have to first get them up to full familiarity (5 full hearts when you feed them stuff), and then boost their stats by a total of 50 points by feeding them more stuff. I used my Puss in Bouts, as I'd fed it quite a lot anyway, so didn't take too much more to max it out. Had to farm a few items to make a bunch of Princess Chocolates, made about 7 of them, but only needed 3 or 4.

Awful game*, how dare they impose such a strong bond to the games main character within 30 minutes of playing. Don't they realise this is the age of the COD 'cushion on a stick' protagonist?

*What a game.

Hey, I still lay awake at night thinking of "Soap" MacTavish*, thank you very much.

*I really don't.

I just defeated Shadar this morning. My characters were around Lv. 83, however, so it wasn't much of a fight.

I have a theory about her, and not the obvious one...

She has to be related to Horace somehow. I'm thinking Horace is her dad, a.k.a the Wizard King. I guess I'll find out in the not too distant future since I'm on my way to Nazcaa after I've levelled Marcassin up a bit.

Put about 6 or 7 hours into this already. Such a good game, it manages to strike a perfect balance between gameplay and story.

The visual style and the beautiful soundtrack are outstanding.
