BBC: "If you'd told the Conservatives at the start of the evening that they wouldn't have won Birmingham Edgbaston then there would have been panic"

Conservative votes goes down and Labour holds (whose vote also goes down).

It's another confirmation of why students shouldn't get a vote. Their minds are just not properly formed.

Quite, they should wait until they are hardened and bitter like the rest of us.

Damn right! Spoken like a true cynic!

Cynicism is the only way forward at 5.30am.

Another important Tory target lost at Hammersmith and Fulham...

Ed balls is rather cocky for a bloke that nearly lost a 10,000 majority ...

words removed can't help being cocky. It's their default setting.

Sorry, are we talking about Labour politicians or politicians in general?

Blunkett saying Tories have won and should form next government

I don't think that anyone in favour of a fairer political system based on what votes come in would disagree at all. The Tories being 2m votes ahead after all. Unfortunately though the Tories aren't in favour of that.

So I guess that if they want to stick to the current constitutional method of election and government then they're going to have to bow to Brown trying to form the next government.

Or throw their weight behind electoral reform. What a conundrum...

Saint Vince won

no doubt he will claim tomorrow to have predicted how may votes he was going to get :-)

Where as Osborne will probably claim that being able to count to the right room number on his fingers means he should be Chancellor.
