darrenm
Yes. I'm in the blue 10.10 wave from Blackheath. Hoping for about 3.15 depending on weather. You?
Taylo
No idea where I am starting from yet, finishing would be a welcome treat though! Only got a place with 12 weeks to go so training has been a bit brief!
AVFCDAN
Massive respect to anyone taking it on. 10k is a battle for me.
VT Supporter andyjsg Posted April 16, 2015 VT Supporter Share Posted April 16, 2015 Sadly not in, hopefully i will earn a place for 2016 soon. I think you will be fine for 3:15, you have done excellent training for it.
darrenm
Cheers Andy. I was running close to 7/mile the other day on a half feeling like almost no effort so hopefully I can sustain 7.26/mile for the whole lot. I know the last 6 will be hard. VT Supporter andyjsg Posted April 16, 2015 VT Supporter Share Posted April 16, 2015 Just watch the weather, i stopped for a small bottle of evian on a run this evening and it wasnt enough, total difference to two weeks ago when a mouthfull of water got me through a two and a half hour run. Also realised i cant just drop gels or im gonna be a barf monster, will need to mix it up with shot blox and maybe some sort of energy bar. Im off to get some warm weather training in Lanza for 3 days on monday, seems crazy to go away for short time but two young kids limits my options and I think my Mrs is a saint for letting me have that. Will be mostly cycling which will hopefully up the endurance without trashing my legs too much.
darrenm
Nice! That'll be lovely. I'd love a cycling holiday. See if I can swing it past the Mrs at some point (not likely)

VT Supporter andyjsg Posted April 26, 2015 VT Supporter Share Posted April 26, 2015 Great time for a first go mate, onwards and upwards for next time!! As for Hendrie, maybe he has some major injury but for someone who was a professional athlete and is similar age to me his time is not great.... darrenm
Not sure I can attach the photo but this tells the story. I trained for 3.15. Then cramp at 20.
VT Supporter andyjsg Posted April 26, 2015 VT Supporter Share Posted April 26, 2015 Oh yes a big drop off. Hmm i might drop some salt tablets into my pocket as i know a few who have cramped up and more often than not its an electrolyte issue. What did you eat/drink before and during the run? darrenm
I went with the high5 guide as it helped in my first sportive. A beet it shot a few hours before. A high5 carb source packet to drink on the way. Then 1 isogel with caffeine at the start. Then 1 isogel with caffeine every 20 mins. Just drank water around the course. Thinking about it I normally have high5 zero tablets with electrolytes before I run long. Not sure. I think I knackered myself out and dehydrated myself travelling and going round the expo yesterday. Paddywhack
I can only dream about running 8 minute miles, even after a couple of miles I'd struggle with that sort of pace.
