I wish I shared your optimism. After what's happened in Israel this week, the right leaning Tory papers are already stating that Starmer was a Corbyn supporter in 2019, and then suggesting Corbyn is supportive of the actions Hamas took against the Israeli's. The link they suggest is fairly obvious. We're going to have stories and smears like this until the next election, and we know that parts of the public quite happily buy into it. I read one column today that suggested that the anti-Semites in the party never went away; they were just being quiet. Again, people believe this BS, and it never seems to be challenged.

Tories stole Covid money to back Hamas to attack the Israelis in order blame Corbyn and bring labour down. Simple’s.

  2. Because of his fame it’s forgotten just how good of a player he was. It wasn’t just his free kicks. He worked hard, he was pretty fast and had a nasty streak alongside delivering pure quality, the way he struck the ball was a joy to behold.

Also blaming Victoria for the way he grabbed fame, he says in the documentary it’s what he wanted and he sort it out. I think marrying her is a result of that not the cause.

2 bits of MLK spring to mind

"Darkness cannot drive away the darkness, only light can do that"

    But also

"It's impossible for me to condemn the rioting, without also condemning the conditions that lead to the rioting"

(I may well have paraphrased one or both of those)

Both from the I had a nap speech I think

  4. I wonder what their supporters think of the conference.

From the outside/opposition it looks like a load of raving politicians trying to say stuff to save their jobs, lies lots of lies and clearly at opposition to each other still.

Are they seeing it and saying that’s exactly what the country needs or hearing one headline and thinking thats enough for me to vote for them. It’s immigrants, Covid, Russia, trans, woke, northerners fault.

The second may happen - I hope somehow they get bogged down in legal issues that prevent this happening immediately.

The former ain't going to happen, mainly because the projects aren't going to happen but also the Tories won't be in power anyway.

They will probably put them out to tender and pay for work they know won’t happen, just as what happened with Covid. Someone somewhere will make some money I’m sure of it

City have taken a short cut  as they’ve  done it with oil money, Man United are spending the money earned from success as a football club.

I don’t think this is true, they were a big club anyway but consistently spent fortunes in the 90s for the best players, they had a great youth team come through yes but the success was built on spending money that then earned them success. Not the other way around.

Villa were a genuine challenger then and had we spent the money we could and should have solidified us as one of the big boys for what then became the explosion of tv money. Unfortunately we missed that boat.

At least Joyce has painting to fall back on, - pun unintended-. That first loss seems to have crushed him mentally, he looked tentative from the first minute and his opponent sensed it immediately. Great stoppage from the referee though.

Yep he looked done before it started, putting on nearly 2 stone was clearly a mistake aswell.

After finding out who Zhang was after watching him unfairly lose to some Croatian bloke he’s become one of my favourites at the moment. he’s a big lump who looks like he has a chin and has great power. He’s a better boxer than given credit but would surely get found out if some movement was put in front of him.

Genuine question, is anything working well at the moment?

    Schools, no

    Police, no

    Hospitals, no

    GP’s, no

    Prisons, no

    Council’s, no

    Social care, no

    Roads, no

All roads lead to funding cuts from the government.

Was just about to ask the question if there was anything not broken.

Unsurprisingly the moto of if were rich it will help you doesn’t work. It’s not even the moto anymore it’s the money is better in my pocket than yours.

Even more surprisingly to them if you cut the youth centres, cut the schools, cut the aid, cut the housing, cut the police, cut the prisons you get more social issues.

If you cut the hospitals, cut the social work, make homes and hospices so expensive they bankrupt you get back logs and lowering standards of care.

All of these have lined someone pocket in the cutting phase, they line someone’s pocket in the fixing phase bringing in private companies to sort it or in most cases don’t do anything or not up to the task.

The mess they left in the 80s and again now is irreversible, only stopping it getting worse unless all parties band together for the good for 20 years and the Tories on the sideline. That won’t happen.

I’d rather have them just calling out incorrect decisions. You don’t need to send the ref to a screen on a marginal call; the VAR is already a ref, after all!

Separate issue is the interpretation of the laws of the game - which shouldn’t be a thing, but is.

It has to be one or the other for me. VAR was so successfully implemented at the 2018 World Cup as they just sent the ref to the screen every time.

If it’s about letting the on field ref manage the game and potentially still make some mistakes even after reviewing then fine.

If it’s about correct decisions then VAR should just over rule and be done with it. This way seems to be seen by the ref fraternity as heresy.

  10. I love the chaos, the money had been spent by the glazers on the playing squad so I don’t get the hate there, it’s purely because they aren’t winning.

However they have fallen behind in the infrastructure at the club, the culture from the top is clearly not there and the players know it. Players on massive wages who can’t be forced out.

Long may it continue but hopefully it doesn’t have to be beating up women that causes it all.

  11. A smart window, sold players, bought some great ones. hopefully we can get Sanson off the books in the next. I think due to his wages Digne is only a matter of time.

If we keep signing players like Tielemans, Torres, Diaby and Zaniolo then we will be great.

I think we’ve spent about £100m net in the last 3 summers. Should have funds left for the next Torres and Diaby level players that we want.

Guimares and Williams may still be targets.

Yep agree, that was an assessment at half time, a disciplined performance and some good flashes of skill in the second.

When he scored I didn’t know he was playing

  13. It seems like we are going for players ready and experienced now. I don’t like the links with Acuna being 31 I was hoping Monchi would get us some 18-23  unknown wonder kids aswell.

I think we will sign players but no idea if that will be big money, what positions, how old or unknown players.

We probably need 3 a cb to cover mings/rb a attacking mid to cover Buendia and another winger/forward to hopefully replace Coutinho.
