  1. As a music addict, I used to think that losing hearing would be the worst thing imaginable. But the sheer practical nightmare of blindness would outweigh even that. And I'd hate to lose reading (talking books would be no substitute). The music is all in my head anyway. I know we have deaf posters on here - what do you reckon Legendary10?
  2. whats it about im currently lokking for a book as ive finished my currnet one England during the First World War - quite an undertaking, certainly no "Da Vinci Code"! My review on Amazon
  3. Well you all knew how I was going to vote on this one. Books, every time. I do enjoy a good film. And I'd rather see a good film than read a bad book. But I can't imagine living without books, they are as essential as food, drink, sleep and sex to me. (BTW, finished 'Parade's End' (fantastic), currently reading - among others - William T. Vollmann's 'Europe Central').
  4. They're right, General. Entrance music, fine. After a goal, The Holte can make all the music we need.
  5. I will be gutted if GB doesn't finish his career at the Villa.
  6. Benitez? Can you imagine it? First game: .................Crouch.......Defoe....................... Cole.........Gerrard.....Lampard........Lennon Young.....Ferdinand.....Campbell......Neville ............................James............................... Second game: ..........................Owen.................................. .........................Rooney................................. Young.............Gerrard..........Wright-Phillips ..........................Barry................................... Bridge.........Lescott.......Brown.......Richards ........................Robinson............................... etc., etc.
  7. Jesus, I remember that one from when I was at school. And you know how old I am.
  8. I'm going to be a stick-in-the-mud here, and declare that England should be managed by an Englishman - which rules out all the above except Allardyce (and I wouldn't want him in). So, I don't know. At the moment, I don't particularly care, to be honest.
  9. ... and yet it's Michael Stipe's least favourite of theirs. He hates it. My favourite REM has to be Losing My Religion. Losing My Religion is brilliant, obviously. It's just the irony of Shiny Happy People that really touches the little nerdy guy inside me. I don't know why Stipe would hate it, but then again you often find that songwriters can't stand some of their most popular tunes. Thinking about it, I think Stipe may dislike it so much because the song has been so massively misinterprated by so many people. its not just Michael that hates it, its the whole band And yes as a fan of REM I have to say it probably is their worst ever single, in fact I've always found it totally cringeworthy Ah, well, we can't all like the same stuff all the time, and thank gawd for that I'm moving on from Out of Time to Automatic for the People now, so you'll probably see a change of heart from me in terms of favourite REM song. I'm expecting Find the River to make an impact - it usually does. For my money, the best stuff REM ever did was on their first four albums. Nothing they've done since has done much for me.
  10. post moved to new "law and Order" thread. This thread is for Q&A as repeatedly stated. Blandy
  11. The boys did it for you General! If that doesn't ease the back pain, nothing will!
  12. Well it's sorted. The more distant boozer, with Dicky Plums of this parish, plus the Nose, a Barcode and two Blades fans (who are very grateful for Cahill's goal this afternoon). Come on Villa, don't let me down.
  13. Different for me, living in Leeds. Last two games I watched in one particular pub with one fellow Villa fan and one Nose (quite a decent lad as it happens, but still... a nose). It's a drive away, but the same two guys will be there. I've now found a more local one I could walk to (probably with another mate who supports Sheffield United) and thus get tanked. Decisions, decisions.
  14. No problem, sir, we get it. Here's to a Villa/Browns double!
  15. Their return to the lower leagues has caused quite a noticeable upsurge in hooliganism. Their recent match with Millwall (surprise surprise) prouced scenes reminiscent of the 70s & 80s. That wouldn't bother me particularly except for the fact that I live in Leeds and I don't want the city centre full of meatheads if I'm out shopping.
  16. Phew. Somebody else voted for books.
  17. Yeah, that's the one. Top Gear must have spoiled something else for me - "Jessica" by the Allmans?
  18. That was ruined for me by that telly program that used it (Top Gear?)
  19. "Seven Minutes To Midnight" by Wah! Heat is the best single The Jam never released. I'll remember that next time I see a certain Mr Wylie Last time I saw I told him he should call his next project Wah! Bother Is he a mate of yours, then? Wouldn't say a mate as such but I know him well enough to say Hi and share a drink at the bar whilst listening to his latest diatribe Havent seen him for a fair few years now to be honest but I used to know him reasonably well and I'm sure now I've started going to gigs on a more regular basis, that our paths will cross once more He seems to use "Wah!" in his various band names in the same way that our very own Spizz uses, er... "Spizz". Where IS Captain Kirk by the way? He used to post on here.
  20. Looks like I'm the first vote for books. “When I get a little money I buy books; and if any is left I buy food and clothes.” (Desiderius Erasmus, 1469-1536) That's me, that is. Music would be a close second.
