  1. The problem with FFP is that it’s a gigantic bait and switch. It was supposedly brought in to prevent a Leeds / Portsmouth scenario, and yes, to some extent it does prevent that from happening. But it ludicrously forces clubs with enormous external resources to either treat those capital injections as something like debt (Villa) or to play accounting tricks to disguise that money as revenue (all the Middle Eastern owned clubs). So the main effect is to just pull up the drawbridge after Chelsea, City, PSG, etc had carte blanche to spend their way to established Champions League status. The worst thing is it may force clubs to undermine their identity by cashing in on academy talent, as that brings the biggest FFP benefit. The whole thing is a fkin shambles when it’s being tightly enforced while the fit and proper test is routinely ignored for club takeovers. It’s like there are two parallel universes, one where the rules are strictly enforced, and one where they are laughed at, and we seem to operate in the first universe. It’s completely bent
  2. The mad thing is this Matty Cash beef they’re trying to create. You’d think he’d Ben Mee’d half their squad the way they bang on about it
  3. They’ll get some points out of those games probably, but yeah it’s a tough run of fixtures. If we can beat them next weekend they will be very deflated
  4. Actually played well today, which makes it funnier
  5. If both FA Cup finalists have qualified for CL / Europa via their PL finish (which is fairly likely based on recent history), then they go on league position for the next Europa place.
  6. Probably yes, although that would leave us 5 pts ahead (with an extra game played) with the run ins looking like this: Villa: West Ham (A), Wolves (H), Man City (A), Brentford (H), Arsenal (A), Bournemouth (H), Chelsea (H), Brighton (A), Liverpool (H), Palace (A) Spurs: Fulham (A), Luton (H), West Ham (A), Forest (H), Newcastle (A), Man City (H), Arsenal (H), Liverpool (A), Burnley (H), Shef Utd (A), Chelsea (A) Have highlighted the "Sky 7" (inc Newcastle) in red. I think Spurs have easier fixtures from the other games - Luton H, Forest H, Burnley H, Shef Utd A are the 4 relegation battlers. We could really do with Spurs dropping points against Fulham or West Ham, who should be well up for it in London derbies. IMO it'll go right down to the wire. Main thing is we both need to keep Man Utd out of the mix. Edit: added in the postponed Chelsea A game for Spurs, thanks @WHY
  7. I don't think his form is any more "streaky" than any other striker. It's just natural that goals will come in clusters. Even the Haaland / Messi type strikers will have purple patches where they get 2 or 3 goals per game.
  8. If we beat Spurs next week we will be very strong favourites for 4th or higher, and we should have buried Manure with that. If we lose or draw, it will be a very squeaky bum run in, but we should still get 4th / 5th = probably CL next season.
  9. He’ll get there with one more season in a Villa shirt. I liked his post match interview talking about Champions League fixtures at Villa Park
  10. Would like to see more of him, he is clearly a very dangerous attacking threat and was one of our best players early in the season. Hopefully these good performances off the bench are earning him a chance to show what he can do in a key game
  11. Same, but hard to argue the point without mentioning the stats. What can I say if you think that an obvious battering was in fact an unlucky defeat for Palace?
  12. Hit the post, scored 3, had 6 shots on target vs 1 from Palace, and as you say dominated possession. We’d be livid if we’d done that and not walked away with all 3 points.
  13. Spurs deserved that win tbh, absolutely battered Palace. Will be a very good game next weekend
  14. The order on MOTD is so irrelevant these days anyway
  15. Think this guy gets too much credit when we score off a set piece and too much blame when we concede. Ultimately he’s probably doing a decent enough job to still be in Unai’s team, but he’s never going to be worth more than a few points a season.
  16. A lot of promise. Wouldn’t hold him responsible for the game getting away from us at one point. Would def like to see more of him.
  17. Literally 90%+ of the threads on this forum it’s the same take. Boring (and bullshit in this case)
  18. Disagree, even when we clearly had the upper hand in the first half, their press was causing us problems and we were conceding stupid free kicks in our own half
  19. Never looked in control of that game. Individual player quality shone through in the end, but Luton went toe to toe with us and probably deserved something out of that Can’t be doing that on a regular basis
  20. Michael Oliver definitely setting things up for a red card here Great half though. Lenglet has been excellent at the back, great to have Konsa back I think Luton will tire if they keep trying to press like this, we just need to be patient Watkins superb
