  1. what a crap reason for voting Conservative. I know, he should have voted Tory becasue they are clearly the best and most capabale party of running the country I've got massive respect for anyone who voted for them because they believe that. Ive just got a feeling there are a lot who voted for the 'wrong' reason/s - like my man in question.
  2. He's just being humble and didn't want to rub your face in it .. inside he's probably already deciding if tonights baby should be fried or BBQ'd He boils them alive like fresh Lobster. He likes to hear the scream, reckons it adds to the flavour
  3. Chuff you say? Indeed I did. A lovely looking one at that. Didn't realise they were so well groomed in the Victorian era!
  4. what a crap reason for voting Conservative. Yep, absolutely bonkers.
  5. What do you think they will do Tony? I'm genuinely interested. We have what we have now and you seem like a pretty switched on bloke. Where are the £8bn of unfunded cuts going to come from? How are they going to stop the UKIP loonies and their own far right faction from destroying our relationship with the EU? Do do you think they can realistically achieve the mythical budget surplus, without massively cutting public services and putting more people into hardship?
  6. My last work call of the day was to a good customer of mine, who voted Tory. He's just said (quote almost verbatim); "I never thought they would get an actual majority. I'm a supporter and even I don't think they should be let loose on their own. If I had known, I wouldn't have voted"! I asked him why he did and he said he thought it was the best way to ensure another coalition and stop the SNP How many more might be feeling the tinge of regret today? Whatever the number, it will be a lot higher in a year or two!
  7. Arrrrrgggghhhh, first the Tories and now Strauss!!! The establishment is everywhere! Down with this sort of thing! #bringbackKP
  8. The return of Penny Dreadful was most welcome, even if just for a glimpse of Billie Pipers Chuff!
  9. I think his Mrs has all the 'Balls' in that relationship Colhint!
  10. The problem with that is, some of the 'cheaper' private healthcare packages are like cheap car insurance. The price looks great, but when you actually need it, the fun really starts! I get 'cover' through work. It's great for minor stuff, but the big stuff is strictly off limit unless I top it up with ridiculous premiums. Its what worries me about a Health Insurance system like the yanks have, these insurance companies are worse than bankers when it comes to fleecing Joe Public.
  11. And maybe if those lazy disabled people went out to work, we could cut down on benefits. And maybe if we got rid of all those immigrants, we wouldn't have so many English people out of work. And maybe if we could get out of Europe we can keep the pint and have non regulation shaped bananas [emoji14] I agree though, people should take their health more seriously. Including me! I dont know if you a serious as none of the things you mention seem relevant to my statement. Hopefully people will literally get off their butts and do something. I read today that 500k applied for london marathon ballot and that is a good sign, shame only about 10k will get a place. A poor attempt at humour Andy and I agree with what your saying.
  12. They will have played a small part with their negative portrayal of Ed , but social media and it's bandwagons typically support the vocal left , arguably that should have had a bigger impact than the likes of the Sun and the Heil Interestingly, the 'expert' on 5 Live sees it differently (as do I) in that people underestimate the power the written press still has and over estimate the impact of social media. Social Media remains a 'young persons' game at this point and I would suggest it's a largely different demographic that use it, as oppose to those who still take notice of the written press. I'm not saying there isn't cross over, of course there is, but I don't think it has the same level of influence on something like a GE. Maybe the next generation though.

  14. You do know it wasn't the Sun wot won it in 1992 and I suspect they didn't win it for them this time around either Ed lost this election live on BBC1 when he refused to acknowledge labours over spending ... Until that moment he'd fooled quite a few people and he had a chance ...that one sentence was when you heard a population say WTF I think it's what got them he majority Tony, you must agree it's a big coup to have the Sun, the Mail and the Telegraph, not just pulling for you, but trying to put the absolute fear of God up people regarding the alternative? I kind of of do and don't agree on the spending. I agree its part of the reason they lost, but more because they didn't have the brains, bollocks and press backing to convince people that the Tories are wrong about austerity and the need for a budget surplus. There are genuinely people who believe Labour caused the last recession and it was used as a weapon brilliantly by the Tories. I genuinely congratulate them on pulling it off, in the same way you have to congratulate Mayweather on beating Pacman or Chelsea winning the league. Not what I wanted by any stretch, but you have to admire how they did it.
  15. This is a quote from John Steinbeck and is about America, but it kind of sums up what I think the Tories have managed to pull off with this result.
  16. Absolutely Xela, it's a massive coup for them, having Murdoch onside. The Tories owe this result in large parts to the support they have had from him. If if they hadn't had it, there would be no majority Government right now. Im sure he will be rewarded well for it in the coming months/years!
  17. They need to take their time and find a way to bring in the other brother, but with a bit less of the new labour baggage. To be honest, I don't think it really matters too much, the Tories will do what they do and in 4 years time it will be like 1997 again. They will win the next one by an absolute landslide and would do even if they kept EM as leader.
  18. Because They (and their pals in the press) are great at convincing people that they don't!
  19. I said last night when the exit poll was released that I feel really disconnected with what is happening at the moment. A huge rise in UKIP in terms of votes if not seats and the Tories getting more seats. There has certainly been a shift to the right. I do have some hope that some of this swing to the right is based on the fact that we have a whole generation of people voting who have never seen the Conservatives governing on their own and they have only seen them in opposition or a coalition. There is little doubt that they will now be a different animal without the Lib Dems holding back some of their even more damaging policies that will decimate further our public services and welfare for those most in need. I do honestly believe that many don't realize what they have let themselves in for. Great post Mark and the last line in particular is spot on (you don't seem to have been pulled up on it though which is odd, I can only assume the right wingers have gone to work while us 'lefties' are on half days or sat at home claiming benefits!) What SOME people have voted for and what they actually get are going to be poles apart over the next 4 years. By the time an unleashed Tory Government have made their £8bn of unfunded cuts, held a Euro referendum and stopped at nothing to achieve a budget surplus, this country could be a very different place. I don't share others confidence in the Euro vote either. If that many people are daft enough to vote UKIP now, then why will they not vote to leave Europe in a year or two? If you are prepared to 'protest vote' in a GE then why not in a ER? Interesting and scary times ahead. Hope it works out and we are all voting for George in 4 years becuase they did such a great job for the country AS A WHOLE.
  20. Surely anyone who didn't vote for Labour or Conservative weren't voting for the party they thought could run the country as they don't have a hope of getting in. I don't advocate a vote for UKIP whatsoever, but I'm not sure your logic really works. Maybe I am wrong then Stevo, but I stand by my views on it. In any election there are people who staunchly support one party or t'other and will not waiver in their view. There are others who 'swing' based on an educated view and deciding who they think will be best at that given time. There are others who 'swing' based on an uneducated view and may vote on one particular issue, or because they have been influenced by the press. All I am saying is that to get this majority, the Tories have secured a lot of votes in the third category. They (the Tories) have done a great job of winning this one, but there are people who have voted for them based on an economic swindle and that is sad. Ive got to go to work now, the last thing I need now is the tin tack! So couldnt possibly be because of the 2nd catergory..................................why? There will be people in that category and fair play to them. I AM NOT ATTACKING TORY VOTERS! Many of them will be in this category and anyone who voted based on them believing that overall they and the country will be better off are ok by me. BUT, if they didn't need the votes from the third category, then why did the Tory press need to campaign in the way they did?

  22. What a load of sanctimonious patronising bollocks. Who are you to presume that anyone voting for any political party has done it out of ignorance simply on the basis that they disagree with you. LOL I'm not presuming, I KNOW. There are ignorant people in the UK - lots of them (millions voted for UKIP, it's not even up for debate). A good % of them will have voted Tory, based on the swindle they have been sold. Facts not sanctimony. I have a lot of respect for people who make an educated vote, Tory or otherwise. I feel sorry for people who have took the bait offered up by the Tory Party and the press, without really understanding the whole situation. There are ignorant people who are going to suffer because they believed the Tory party is the party for them. That's a RAFA fact, so jog on. Disagree completely, as in 2010 people were wise enough to look at the Labour leadership and judge them to be cretinous buffoons. Faced with the peril of them controlling the government they took the sensible choice of voting elsewhere. I see this I think a lot of people who voted Tory looked at Ed Miliband and thought, "Prime Minister? You're having a laugh". Totally agree with that AWOL. They lost because of their leader, weak campaign and the press. My point remains though, there will be a lot of people who voted Tory, based on some soundbites and the Sun newspaper. They don't really know what they have voted for overall The likes of Eames can trump that up all they like - it's true Labour have ignorant voters too, it just looks like the Tories managed to secure the ignorant majority this time around. I think your analysis is flawed and suspect people were voting Tory out of shrewdness, not ignorance. When one see the likes of Ed Miliband knocking on the gate, do you invite him in or bolt the door? Common sense has prevailed and the least bad of two poor options selected by an electorate that is vastly more switched on than you give them credit for. Ok, let's agree to disagree. I am in no way saying that there are not lots and lots of voters who have taken an educated view and voted Tory. On the point of ignorance and the electorate though. Several million voted UKIP. Do you really believe that those voters weighed up all he pros and cons of each party and decided that OVERALL they would be the best party to run the country? Really?
