.......and there were many goalkeepers to choose from. Foster, Al-Habsi, Craig Gordon, Macgregor, Green - all were gettable. Shay Given is a better goalkeeper than all of them.

Three consecutive seasons of reduced appearances is why Given has a reputation for being injury prone. Now he might turn out to be a great signing, but I reckon his shoulder is dodgy, and there's a 50/50 chance he'll **** it again. If he doesn't, then it's a great gamble, if he does then we have to hope Guzan steps up. On balance, this is a good signing, because there wasn't much else out there to choose from, but there is a big chance this will go wrong. It's because people love the club and want everything in favour of the club. My opinion is that it's a great signing and i'm not bothered about the length of contract. But i can understand that view. I can't It's an utterly bizarre view to have.

I'll never work out many of the supporters of this football club. Moaned for weeks that we didnt have a goalkeeper - we sign a real top class goalkeeper - one of the very, very best in he business - and people moan about the length of the contract. It's **** unbelievable
