  1. Are you honestly comparing Aston Villa to Borussia Dortmund? Honestly? Really? No, I haven't compared us to Borussia Dortmund but they had a style of play which worked against Arsenal and it is hardly a great secret in fact in the first game last year I think we bullied them a bit. Are you saying that we are incapable of playing a pressing game?
  2. Why did Lambert waste the cost of a plane ticket to Dortmund where he watched BD hassle, harry and over run Arsenal completely bullying them and then sit back and let them play how they wanted against us??? Was it the little poorly players??? Or Lambert's inability to actually impliment tactics that don't involve 20% possession??
  3. Not judging Sanchez yet but Bryan Ruiz had a good world cup too? These types of player usually take time to adjust to team mates and league.
  4. It's not being negative not wanting to give Lambert a new contract in fact it's a positive move really. Let's see if he can actually operate when keeping his job depends on performances and results? I don't think that 5 games in a season is the right time to essentilally reward a manager who ok has operated within a ridiculously small budget but has never had any pressure regarding performance or results.
  5. What has given you this impression? Can't say it upsets folks!
  6. Well if his first few actions are anything to go by I expect us to be playing in shirts manufactured by George, sponsored by QuidQuid and playing in the Durex Arena!
  7. Yeah Great!! Consistantly crap football here we come!!! It's great having a manager who now knows that it doesn't matter how poorly he performs there's always a new contract waiting around the corner!!
  8. Another genius decision by Lerner to add to his long list! Feel like I woke up this morning and found out Harold Shipman is my new GP! 3 more years of dire, turgid football!
  9. No just the St Johns Ambulance Parking Bay!
  10. Got to be the beard! All the lads in the building either have or are attempting to grow face fuzz! Aftershave you say? Wow, it's a different world for these footballers I tell ya They dress funny as well???
  11. Down to one man. Lerner? Great to see my new neighbour being such a star left back! It's all man-bags, Ferraris and aftershave where ever you go by mine now. It took a few but finally a proper defender!
  12. Who? Stan that knuckledragging bluenose twonk?
  13. I know and all those fools who didn't think he had a plan, they a called him an inbred little rich kid and that if his Dad hadn't left him rich then he would be on the streets of Cleveland offering fat yanks a blow job for a dime! How could they have doubted his plan of getting Lambert to loose matches so the opposition thought they just needed to show up to win. Obviously a genius plan hatched on those long cold nights Randy and Paul spent cuddled up in front of the fire? This year the League, next year the Champions League the next year Lambert is voted the new KIng of newly independant Scotland!
  14. If being a yes man is the only criteria then....yes! Isn't every manager a Yes man, otherwise they wouldn't have a job surely. Just a minute.......Tony Pulis says No!
  15. Yes I think Lambert deserves a new deal and yes I would be delighted if he got one, lets be honest that doesn't even get close to being ridiculous in the context of this thread and some of the statements made as recently as the last few pages. But you are entirely welcome to feel differently, you won't be alone in that. I just wish it was possible to have a sensible debate/conversation without some of the hyperbole that is banded about in this thread and some of the blinkered views. I don't think anyone thinks Lambert is perfect, I certainly don't but I personally get tired of seeing perfectly valid points about the circumstances in which he has managed being casually dismissed as being excuses. Yes Lambert has had to work under constraints and difficult circumstances but this is Premier League management here we are are talking about, every managerl works under pressure of some sort or the other it's the nature of the job. I think Lambert has been shown the most amount of leeway I have ever witnessed form a board or set of fans considering the end of season results and performances on the pitch for most of the time. So this is his chance to make good on that faith shown by our Chairman and fans and so far so good but I am worried that these four results are papering over some almighty cracks? We are still struggling to retain the ball and take the pressure of the defence. We cannot defend every week like we did against Liverpool and the likes of Chelsea and Man City will rip us to bits compared to an under strength out of form Plop. We do not create enough chances and this year we have more points on the board than shots on target this will be our down fall. The team showed great spirit at the weekend and it was good to see how pumped up they were at the final whistle but why has it taken all this time to get this amount of fight in the side? Many times last season I watched a lot of these very same players trudge off the pitch after a battering from another mediocre side looking like our players couldn't give a shit whether it lost or not? Surely if you have a poor quality side the first thing you install is a sense of pride and fight. We've never had any under Lambert till now? Why? I also want to see how Lambert reacts tactically to going behind in a game, in the league we've been lucky not to go behind yet but when someone comes to VP grabs a goal and then sits back, I want to see what we do because before we have been quite clueless on how to break teams down. That's why I would give Lambert a new contract yet or in the foreseeable future because there are too many question marks. Blindly following your bosses instructions without showing any inititive is not how my team earn new contracts.
  16. YES! I find it amazing that people forget so quickly how dire the football has been over the past 2 seasons with him in charge? I find it pathetic that people can't see the budget constraints he's been working under and can't appreciate the fact that the strikers he spent decent money on were both out for the majority of the second half of last season and we were left with a thread bare squad and because of our decent results earlier in the season we still managed to stay up but don't give any credit for the fact that he managed to get results with a crap squad. Funny that I find it pathetic when people have to come up with the same old excuses to justify dull, passionless drivell as football or say well we beat ManCity but not mention the two thrashings by Fulham! Anyway we are both entitled to our own opinions so let's leave at that eh? I think pretty much everyone on here has been disappointed with results and performances in the past two years, that's a given. Those seasons have gone now, there is no changing the past and we can't have the time back. So the question is, what does he need to do to earn your support (or at least a stay of execution) now and going forwards? I'm 'pro Lambert' in the sense that I do not believe he should have been sacked in the summer, but I also think he could be doing better and I expect to see an improvement in results and performances this season. So far he is delivering that. Had we have started with four losses and played like a pub team, my patience would be wearing thin in the extreme by now, but we haven't and therefore it isn't. So what does he need to do in the short/medium/long term to get Delboy back on side or is it just a case of you wanting him gone because of past results no matter what the future brings? Eg if we finish 10th with a decent GD and a better home record, would you then give him a chance IF new owners came in, or would you still want him gone because the two seasons before that were shite? Where is the tipping point? The origins of this whole conversation came from someone's suggestion (Trent I think) that Lambert had earned a new contract which was a statement I found ridiculous.I am obviously delighted with the points tally to date and the seemingly improved defensive displays but still worry creatively. I am not going to get carried away because Lambert has shown us false dawns before so let's see how the season goes and worry about contracts for the manager a lot later in the season? If a manager meets the remit of the Chairman, does he not deserve a new contract? If being a yes man is the only criteria then....yes!

  19. Why do we get double points there or something? And did you reallyy just say Helenius was a good signing? LOL!
  20. Never has been or will be good enough for any Premier League side!
  21. No way does Lambert deserve a contract extension. Being Lerner's lacky gimp is not a reason for a new contract and Lerner should not lumber any new owner with this millstone! So, let's say the end of the season brings no new ownership. Lerner is still in charge and Lamberts contract is running out, you'd rather let it run out and go on the hunt for a replacement that would more than likely be someone like Allerdyce, Bruce, Pulis etc than hold on to a manager who is doing alright considering the circumstances? Anyone who says the circumstances doesn't excuse the poor form at times and the inconsistency needs to wise up. The club spent less than any of the recently promoted teams this summer and is performing well above expectations, I mean WELL above expectations. It's a long season but a great start that should help us avoid a relegation battle this year. To think of getting rid of Lambert after 3 years of digging is the bargain bin, battling inconsistency, young players not being able to recover from defeats and injuries. There's no other manager that I can think of that would do any better in the same circumstances. There really isn't. So if in May 2015 we finish on 37 points having survived relegation by the skin of our teeth again. We're playing dull boring football still, Benteke, Vlaar and Delph all want out and Tonev's arrived back after a season on the bench in the porridge league looking for first team football. Above all there's a shiny new billionnarie paying Lerner £100m for the club and he has a new shiny manager waiting in the wings? What then? Do we stick with the footballing Anti-Christ? The above is as much conjecture as your little story? But hey if Lerner is still here next year and for the foreseeable why not keep Lambert as his managerial abilities match Lerner's ambition!

  23. Well done Nathan, just make that your baseline for the rest of the season and you'll do well. PS I hope we don't have to make you work as hard as you did on Saturday and we can play some football and take the pressure off occassionally?
