  1. No Traore will not be our ST unless all of the others have significant issues. Most on here are just saying that we don’t require one because we still have Traore as a 4th-5th option. I am happy to be proven wrong but I haven’t seen anything from Smith that would suggest a new ST. We do know though he’s against stockpiling players and arguably the ST position is our most stockpiled IMO
  2. You raise a good point about another part of the jigsaw potentially assisting with the lack of defence from the wingers. Agreed - definitely a balancing act. I also reckon Smith will have Traore running defensive drills all summer - luckily the defensive stuff is easier to teach than some of the incomprehensible magic he does going forward.
  3. How much does that cost though? And does it take away from other targets? Let’s say Traore improves slightly and scores 9 goals, has 9 assists and improves his defensive work in the Premier League. That’s a season I’d be happy with from an RW. And if you want to replace him - Diogo Jota had 7G and 1A in 2019/20 and 9G and 5A in 2018/19 and he cost 40 million. Targett should also serve as a cautionary tale - imagine if we replaced him off the back of fan comments and never found out how good he was?
  4. We don’t need a striker, what we need is a top class LW or CAM who can also play ST. That gives us literally 5 options in the event Watkins gets kidnapped by Spurs fans.
  5. The context that Traore is being discussed as a ST though is in an emergency. We haven’t had an emergency this season. If all of Watkins doing 2 ACLs, Wes isn’t up to scratch at all, Davis can’t do the job and Barry can’t fill in from time to time happens, as previously outlined by Smith, Traore can do a job for us there.
  6. I think that more has to do with Vardy’s football mortality than getting backup for the position.
  7. I think we all need to start preparing for the fact that we won’t sign the DM a lot of people on here are looking for. If we assume that we will have a CAM and we do sign a DM - I just can’t understand how the Sanson signing would make sense. It would effective mean you have 3 players fighting for a CM spot (Mcginn, Luiz and Sanson). I just can’t see it imo
  8. I came here to repeat exactly this. He can also play CF. Would much prefer him to Buendia or De Arrascaeta - more production and more traits that suggest he has higher levels he can get to. Still not convinced Buendia can do what he did in the Championship in the premier league and it’s a fairly big ask for De Arrascaeta to seemlessly transition to the Premier League having never played outside of South America. I would happily sign De Arrascaeta in addition to Kamada.
  9. Agreed 100%. His right footed though, and based on the highlights seems to primarily use his right (even though he’s meant to be very good on his left) - in our system that would probably mean he’d play on the left
  10. I get the theory, but: 168cm: Kante 175cm: Douglas Luiz 178cm: Phillips and Fernandinho 181cm: Nididi and Bissouma Obviously there’s bigger DCMs around but those are some of the best in the league and they’re not actually that much taller than Luis.
  11. I’m so confused by this rhetoric. Kante and Fernandinho aren’t that big? Also Phillips is only 3cm bigger than Dougy. What exactly are we looking for?
  12. More and more I think this is a good idea. Would he leave considering Frankfurt are looking likely for a Euro place if not CL?
  13. 100% this. It also wouldn’t make the Sanson signing make much sense. Assuming one of Luis and Mcginn are playing and we sign a DM - was Sanson brought in as backup??
  14. Van de Beek, Leon Bailey, Olise and a back-up LB would be a classy transfer period.
  15. I’m not saying we shouldn’t get a new RW in the off-season, but wingers do tend to be the position most prone to inconsistency. Often when I compare Bert’s stats to someone else in the prem he measure up pretty well. Out of interest, who would you swap Bert for that doesn’t belong to the current top 4 teams or Liverpool?
  16. If we signed Tammy or a striker, I would almost more see Watkins playing CAM than RW. Has the work rate to get up with Tammy but also get back defensively.
  17. Sunday’s match got me thinking -are we so Grealish focused (as we should be) when Grealish is playing that when he isn’t playing or has a rare off game it’s almost like we have to learn an entire new system?? And subsequently our attack goes to s***? As soon as the system changed and players came on - players seemed to take more responsibility for being creative than I have seen since Grealish went out...
  18. Would you take Koopmeiners or Van De Beek if money was no factor ?
  19. Can we all please just take a moment to consider how big this is for Villa. The striker position was one of our weakest positions last year and now the striker we brought in over the summer is in the England squad and may potentially make his England debut. Has far exceeded my expectations of what a new striker could do in such a short amount of time - absolutely thrilled.
  20. I don’t think Trez will be around to take us to the promise land. However, he was the whipping boy when the teams form was crap most of last season, was the hero come the last few games when we put together a good run of form, and people could not sing his praises high enough on how much he’d improved when we started the season like a house on fire. Trez’s form tends to be a product of the teams performance and right now Villa is not playing its best football. Our problems are definitely bigger than just Trez, although, in saying that, our problems are still a far cry from last season.
  21. Give him a chance Tuco, give him a chance
  22. I’m not sure if he flopped - looked decent on the pitch, just other at Man U ahead of him. Regardless, was just being conservative - consider that figure the max you would pay for him
  23. Fair point re Sosa - standard £20 mill van de beek might be wishful thinking but with Barkley out the door it feels like a good fit - tall, great passing and defensive qualities too
  24. I would like to see: Borna Sosa LB £6 mill Khvicha Kvaratskhelia LW/RW £10 mill Michael Olise £20 mill Van De Beek £35 mill Maybe: Leon Bailey RW £40 mill - Bayer Leverkusen A CB/RB
