Personally - I take so much from this performance. Old Villa played one way and one way alone - there was zero clue how to change it up. we’re going to have bad days and spells. Sometimes the other team just have your number. But he changed it up, made some wacky subs and we almost grabbed the win. That’s what top 6 clubs do. Yep. It was entirely accidental in my opinion - he wasn’t being malicious. But it was still a penalty. If the ref had given it, they would have upheld I reckon.

Also for all of you saying “why Olsen”… Can you imagine the morale hit on Emi if he missed the World Cup due to getting an injury in the league cup… This ain’t a premier competition! We kept pace with United for most of it, and in fact we’re leading them twice in the game. United had better subs to bring on. United have conceded 7 goals at home this year in all completions and we have two of them… I personally took so many positives from that. I enjoyed the way we played - we looked dangerous the entire game, even though the back looked weak (but it wasn’t our starting back 4). I like him giving lots of players a chance and the LC is the venue to do that. Bad result. With Emi in goal we at least make penalties… Good performance compared to where we were.

Steady the ship to me doesn't mean competing with the top 4, it means grinding out a 1-0 win against Brentford. It means us starting to play the right way and getting a few more points on the board.

Ings is a far better striker than Wilson. Not even close when you look at their production. I agree with you - he’s just been a total waste since he signed. Not because he’s bad, but because he has been totally mis coached and misused…

Bailey looks amazing fr 5 mins a game. I wonder if he's just missing the right coaching. I firmly believe this is a top 8 squad if you coach them right. Watkins seems limited, but is the coach just not getting the best out of him? I disagree strongly on Cash (who looked good enough for an England call up under Beale) and Mings. Ings just isn't being played right and our system doesn't fit him right now - he's a proven clinical finisher. I personally don't think a complete redo is needed. I suspect Unai uses the entire budget on three pinpoint players that would be a massive upgrade.

Squad is fine, no need to panic. They've just been mismanaged. It's going to take a while but the world cup break is going to really help with all the guys staying behind. Really hoping Coutinho doesn't make the Brazil squad. This next run of results is mega tough and I give Emery a total free pass until the end of Jan. Which seems like a very long time, but it's going to take that long to turn this thing around and get a few replacements in. Trust the process. We are doing it right this time around. I firmly believe by the end of the season we are no worse than 11. I can see it looking like total shit, then suddenly clicking and we take down 2/3 of the points on offer between end Jan and end of season...
