  1. Team 100% strikes me as value guys. I say take fliers on players in a bad patch - it's clear that Unai can turn anyone around. Look how bad Tielemans look for Leicester last year.
  2. Put differently, the underdog mentality is exceptionally motivating. Sitting on the top and looking down is much harder. Keegan Newcastle is my best example. Even saw it live on Sunday - early goals against an opponent you see as better than you then it is much harder to manage the mentality than a last minute grab. We talk about his tactics and style of play and coaching ability, but the way he has changed the psychology at VP may be his most unsung achievement.
  3. Emery and McGinn know this better than anyone. The more you start to believe, the harder it becomes to do it. Play it game by game, and take a look again in April.
  4. If Watkins goes down, then it'll be 50mm plus to have someone anywhere near as good. So, yes I'd be fine with it. Strikers in January is the premium of the premium pricing. Just don't see that's the kind of long-term-oriented move that we'd make. You end up buying a Heskey-type on high wages at a reasonable price point.
  5. Maybe start him knowing Digne is easy to bring on. Just trying to balance out him getting minutes vs. him being able to play a full game against Brentford. But agree he needs 45.
  6. Digne/ Luiz are auto starts for me given they miss out at the weekend.
  7. As much as I wish we could rest the whole first team, finishing top has to be the highest priority so we can forget about the competition for a while and not have another game next year. Really difficult to balance things out here.
  8. Had a bit of time to think about the match. We definitely took more out of that game than we deserved, but that's how it goes in football. I don't take anything too much from the way we played - the City game took a lot out of them and Arsenal had an extra day on us. Really glad to have won it, and would have been equally happy with a draw. But Arsenal weren't clinical and wasted a lot of great chances. That said - we also had several chances to get the second. It's not like we just parked the bus. The handball rule is a stupid rule and I think most neutral fans would agree that should be a goal - but you have to follow the rules. Diego was also really lucky to not get a red for that.
  9. The only thing that could have gone better today is if he had said "Good Ebening" instead of "Good Evening" and then burst out laughing in the post match conference.
  10. Don't care about anyone around us. Just win the next game: that's the Unai way. Just focus on the next match.
  11. Said after City game that if we win today then we're top of the league on Jan 1. Put $50 on Villa today and just rolled all my winnings plus the $50 into Brentford game. $177.50 on the next one. Going to keep going that until Jan 1.
  12. Feel like I'd have to restart my PC at least 8 times to get that result again.
  13. For value I'd maybe, maybe fight you on McGinn
  14. This is amazing - thanks for posting. He just described exactly what we've been through.
  15. Smells like more FFP fodder to me. 10 million and move on.
  16. If only they had a World Cup winning goalkeeper in their squad.
  17. Who'd have thought at the start of the season that Bailey would be unstoppable. See how he holds up though - he looked the most gassed out of the lot. Partly because he's been only used to playing half a game and partly because of the style of his play - so high energy. We'd have beaten Argentina in the World Cup final yesterday. Albeit it would have been weird to see Emi running from goal to goal to stop shots at both ends.
  18. None of the other big teams will give him the freedom and control that our owners have. Certainly not United or Liverpool. The way I am feeling right now is that Emery is going to become our Sir Alex equivalent.
  19. If I'm the richest guy in Africa and a wealthy hedge fund manager from Milwaukee I'm backing Unai massively. At a certain point money ceases to be useless except for the enjoyment it brings you by spending it.
  20. Genuinely the first time this season I voted the Ref as being very good. Was there keeping an eye on the game, but didn't interfere and just let the two teams battle it out. Absolutely should be the standard of how to do that job.
  21. Coming into these 3 fixtures (B/ M/ A) my baseline for good was 4 points. Now I fully expected the 3 would come from Bournemouth and we'd sneak a point from one of the others. A draw or better is in the great category for me - and we should walk the rest of our fixtures for the year. Beat Arsenal and I genuinely believe we'll be top at Christmas.
