  1. It means that people can just rewrite history.
  2. You don’t seem get the concept of overpaying at the time. The converse would be saying Martinez would be money well spent at £60m now. And of course that is right….we just happened to get a bargain at £20m a year ago.
  3. 4 games for second goal. 20 year old. Yeah he hit the ground running and has been our best ST for at least 15-20 years.
  4. Feck me, we overpaid at the time. He wasn’t even starting for Bournemouth, out of favour with Eddie Howe. From memory we messed up the loan because we didn’t include an option to buy but then we got promoted and Bournemouth basically asked us to bend over at £25m. All that doesn’t mean he’s not good value for money now. How do you not understand the difference??
  5. I think there are some issues re Sterling tbh. I know Jack provided the assist but I’ve noticed a number of times on how Jack has made himself available for the ball only for there to be a ponderous backwards or sideways pass only then to work it to Sterling.
  6. I think his work rate was well known but I agree that aspect of his game has impressed me.
  7. He did hit the ground running lol. Early goals against Swansea and Norwich evidenced that, as well as keeping out Bent. I’ve followed Villa for 30 years and some of the stuff on here you couldn’t make up.
  8. Not true, anyone with any footballing nouse could see he was a player. The debate at the time was why Lambert preferred him over Bent.
  9. Mate, Watkins was our record signing at £28m. Cash cost us £16m. That’s not small beer. Mings we had on loan and kind of overpaid at the time but worth every penny and a snip compared to Maguire. All they have done is justified their highish fees the time.
  10. As I say, he edged out Bent. He scored against Swansea and Norwich early season as a £7m 20 year old. Don’t tell me he didn’t hit the ground running and outperformed expectations as that is rewriting history.
  11. Yes. It seems apparent you didn’t. In the same way I though Heaton was a tosh signing, Wes and Trez too.
  12. Completely disagree bar SJM. It was as clear as day Martinez was a quality player, we just got him for a snip. Watkins, Mings and Cash have simply delivered on their transfer fee expectations. Not over delivered and that’s the key point.
  13. He edged out Bent pretty much from the start and was just 20 years old and over the course of the season massively outperformed expectations.
  14. One who hits the ground running and outperforms expectations.
  15. Sure, if our owners want to spend £20m over the realistic asking price then any player is ours.
  16. Yes we do lol. It’s very rare we have a Benteke type transfer. Everything else is so predictable.
  17. It’s so true though. We all know how the forthcoming season will play out based on the transfers in and out close season. During the season, how we sway from sacking Dean Smith to dreaming of top 6 is just embarrassing.
  18. The problem with ESR is we did a job on Arsenal last year with Martinez so with any future transfer they will (a) be more reluctant and (b) demand their pound of flesh in return via an inflated transfer fee. So unless we’re spending Jack’s transfer fee I can’t really see it happening.
  19. Huh? What have I said that annoys you so much?
  20. Completely agree. Both £50m+ players if transitioned properly.
  21. No, no, no…..we can’t have been in for him in a proper sense, only to sign Traore for £16m and then Beundia for £33m for Rashica to be available at £10m. (But he’s have been more £15m+ for Villa).
