Our squad is in very good shape; probably the best it's been in over a decade. This is only 3 years after being mid-table in the Championship. This is down to how the owners have run the club.
Yes, I agree that we need one more high quality player, preferably in centre midfield but I won't cry if we don't get one. We have a good squad with some exceptional young players breaking through. Maybe the targets the recruitment team would ideally like to sign just aren't available right now. Would you rather us spend money willy-nilly and weaken our position regarding FFP for next season, just for the sake of it? Or would you rather wait and get the best deal for the player we actually want?
Do you want us to go the Xia route and spend every single penny available, even if it is completely unsustainable? Isn't that what got us into the mess in the first place?
We are still establishing ourselves as a Premier League team again. European football next season would be nice but I don't think it is the aim. Another solid season of consolidation would do just fine. We don't want Europe too soon as we would need far greater depth, something which can't be achieved overnight. Look at the last time we tried to buy a whole new team (15/16 and then 19/20 where we literally scraped survival).
It makes far, far more sense to do it sustainably and over time.
Some of the statements in here are so over the top, it's utterly embarrassing. It's not football manager or FIFA. We can't just childishly snap our fingers and say "sign someone".
Yes, I would like another midfielder by Wednesday but I am totally fine if we don't get one.
