    Unai Emery

Decent bit of insight here such as the relationship between Uani, Vidagany and Monchi… and how Unai was impressed by Rogers and they got the deal sorted for him…
  2. However we do it… will be wonderful. A few or run of losses for Spurs would be nice though
  3. Let’s secure 4th before we start worrying about or even considering 3rd one step at a time, I’ll be delighted and elated if we manage to do it… especially if there are games to spare… at least the pressure is off us and on them…
  4. Some things change… but Villa fans bickering and turning on each other never will

He’s the only one who says “we have to accept” too… ”we have to respect”… just a top bloke, coach and manager… I love his constant emphasis on “demanding” too… and his line that the players should know and question “why” when it comes to what they are learning and what their roles and responsibilities are…

I’m not dismissing anything… just think context is required. Haven’t hated on him. But yeah… not sure he would have done as well as Unai if he had to work within the same parameters and facing the same challenges and restrictions.
  7. At least the lion was facing the correct direction
  8. At this point…this is probably the best we can hope for… but I’m afraid that what we are going to get is the plain lion with stupid drop shadow…
  9. I have to admit that I’ve gotten used to the round badge, still wish the lion was facing the way that it should instead of the awkward position it’s in and how weird it looks on the shirt… Yellow on light blue is simply a crime… there is no reason to stick with that. Fairly keen on the detailed lion version but… I don’t know what to expect at this point… I’m tired
  10. I don’t hate Heck or have a strong opinion on him yet but… he’s responsible for the whole rebrand so… if it’s crap and not completed properly or according to the rules, then he deserves criticism. I’m happy that he is working on better deals for the club and improving the commercial/financial side… maybe it’s the ruthless kind of approach we have needed for so long. And he will get the credit for that. Many of his decisions are likely to upset many of us fans but as long as they benefit us long term… we might be better off holding off on complaining too much… I think they will have to be judged individually…
  11. Your opinion isn’t shit mate, the badge is I’d love to buy some lovely Villa Adidas gear (without any stupid, especially gambling, sponsors on it) but not if it’s ruined by an ugly and crappy badge. Think it’s something to consider… a classy badge will make club merch even more aesthetically appealing and attractive… selling that stuff is what we want right? Although I realise a lot of fans will spend on this stuff regardless, but not everyone. Revenue streams? I would like us to be represented by a quality badge that represents the club well in all forms of media tbh… But… I am also sick of all this and there is a part of me that just wants it over and done with too…

Anyway… back to Unai and back to this… loved the way he kind of dismissed the question about who he wants or deserves to win the Champions League… he doesn’t have the time or interest to bother about such things and prefers to enjoy… and “I want to win with Aston Villa” FLIPPING LOVE HIM!

Might be subjective… until Pep (loved him at Barca but look at the players he had, not just Messi. City have changed him…for the worse..) takes on a perceived underdog or overachieves with a less established or top level, successful club… can be really be compared with certain others? Did nothing remarkable or revolutionary at Bayern really… others fared even better. It’s what he did at Barca that is most impressive and deserves most credit. Managers at 115 Charges FC already won things, and spent less - especially on a defence that he struggled with - before he came along… he’s been like a kid in a toy shop with a blank cheque over there… What Unai has done with teams like Sevilla and Villareal, and what he is doing with us, is remarkable and outstanding… maybe that kind of thing deserves more praise… Maybe Pep is the best (not Cruyff?) but no one can deny that he has been afforded luxuries that barely any manager has ever had… he’s had it good at every club he’s been at. There’s an argument over whether Klopp is better and has achieved more with what he had (not a fan personally, these guys have huge egos and act like idiots under pressure or display too much arrogance or try to forcefully exert influence) in comparison. Managers in other leagues get discounted too often too… how about Ancelotti, Lippi… for example? Mancini deserve any credit for coming in to City and turning them into champions? Winning the Euros with an unfancied Italy? And managers who’ve pulled teams up and transformed them from obscurity or decline… there are many factors to take into account.
  14. Barry could not do this or even this (let’s have some more Dougie)

The best… IF he’s working with the world’s best players and/or IF he gets to spend the odd billion or close to it…. I prefer the managers who can get the best out of what they have and then add the right quality sensibly and intelligently… coaching above spending… No chequebook managers or those who throw players under the bus without a second thought or chance. N no screaming, bitching, whining, fake arseholes. Unai is elite, no one compares for me and I wouldn’t trade him for ANYONE… a match made in heaven that can hopefully last for a long while… a proper era of enjoyment, excitement, entertainment and success… and major progress. Also a massive bonus to have the most throughly decent, genuine, dedicated, honest, hardworking, classy, dignified, humble, meticulous, good, honest, dignified man we could possibly ever have in charge… He puts them all to shame and I flipping love it. Unai must be cherished and adored.
  16. Seems like former players like Barry (lack of mobility/pace, less skill and flair and not the passing inc through ball ability of the likes of Luiz and Tielemans who also have better shots on them. Gareth was more of a steady, controlling player who bought leadership and composure but didn’t have outstanding abilities imo) are being overrated a bit and our existing players and their skills either being underrated/underplayed or overlooked. I wouldn’t really swap anyone, happy with this bunch and who Unai is going to add to it. And more convinced than ever that it is most crucial to have a top coach and manager than top or big name, big money players… we have been embarrassingly bad (and heavily sold the club short) at appointing managers for way too long… but we finally got it right and struck gold this time. Unai is a keeper… we must ensure he is here and happy for as long as possible… he simply elevates players and there is no one better at it. Certainly wouldn’t swap him for ANY former manager either. My view is let’s embrace to future and not be stuck in the past… appreciate and admire the achievements of former, successful managers and players. But that was then… this is now… let this lot write their names into our proud history and be remembered just as fondly… Think we can be overly sentimental and “live in the past” too much at times. Bozzie isn’t a patch on Emi… Emi is truly world class and the best around, he isn’t lacking anything. Bozzie was an excellent shot stopper but not the all round package (struggled to kick the ball for one and was, at times, a controversial and troubled personality)… he even failed when he got his “dream move” back to Manure…( flipping hate that lot and sickened whenever I even see that manager’s name mentioned… cheating bar stewards!) had his issues… Even though he was a bit before my time… probably the most reasonable shout would be McGrath (especially the way he is talked about and remembered) but… would his body and knees hold up to the demands of the modern game? Or would he benefit from the modern training methods, rehab, treatments, medical facilities and expertise etc? It’s a tricky one… It’s’ very difficult to imagine how players from way back would manage in this day and age…so much has changed including lifestyle away from the pitch, not to mention how the game has changed, the rules, protection, luxuries, better pitches, diets, no more drinking culture etc. and so much more Which ones would have been able to adapt and thrive in modern systems and styles? E.g. so much more responsibility and demands on GKs and CBs to be comfortable on the ball and proficient in their passing… not many were back in the day… Someone mentioned Pele and Best… imagine Maradona! With a safer and more protected life, modern training, coaching and playing on better pitches without much risk of having his legs removed or broken by overly aggressive and mental defenders… Messi might not have stood a chance! Although more recent, shout out to R9 too who was well on the way to establishing himself in that “bracket” of world class or best ever players… if not for the sickening injuries… Anyway… I’m happy with what we have and how we are. Delighted with and have full faith in King Unai. Let’s enjoy the here and now and look forward to what is to come…
