  1. Can anyone spot the team missing from the list? http://www.epltalk.com/man-united-most-successful-club-english-history/2060
  2. 1874-1881 We were superior to Spurs as they were unable to put up a team 1882-1887 The top competition was the FA Cup - we got further than Spurs every season 1888-2010 The top competition was the league with 79 years out of 122 spent with a superior league status to Spurs! Therefore in Villa's 136 year history 93 of them have been spent being superior to a team that have won 2 league titles (the last one half a century ago) and no big European trophy!
  3. There was me thinking Arsenal were in the football league then Outside 1950 to 1963 I think I'm right in saying Tottenham have been one of the top teams in the main two competitions once. As was shown by Spurs finishing above Villa four times before the 1950's the 4th tier was a good place for you.
  4. From the start of 1975: Villa: Intertoto x 2 Super Cup European Cup Tots: Uefa Cup (and even that they only won the semi on away goals and then the final on penalties!!!) Looks like 4 times as many to me! No doubt about it overall won bigger than Spurs!
  5. But, unfortunately for Villa, less successful than Spurs since WWI onwards. As I've said, it's perhaps time for Villa fans to stop looking backwards into the remote, Victorian past when the league was tiny. As I said overall we've out performed you in both. Tottenham were formed in 1882 I'm afraid Regardless the top 5 most successful league teams were all around when we won our league titles including north London's biggest club (that's the one that has won 13 league titles not 2) Tottenham have very little history pre 1950 - so little in fact you finished above us about 4 times Yes, from 1950 to 1974 you were better - I concede that one  However, from the start of 1975 (the year the Vietnam War ended) we've won more competitions, we've won the bigger competitions and we've finished above Spurs more often To summarise, not only have we been superior for 79 years out of 122 in the top flight (spending an extra 35 years as a top flight side) we've also won 6 more of the main domestic and European trophy combined (and lead by 12 in terms of winners and runner ups) Total and complete dominance over Spurs
  6. You posting this on every page is getting pretty annoying to me, so I can't imagine how pissed off the Spurs fans are getting! The complete picture shows just how inferior Spurs have been! No need to hide facts away - this is everything in the main 2 comps! Villa vastly superior to Spurs overall in the main 2 comps! :winkold:
  7. Just to confirm the overall and complete performance in the main 2 competitions: Tottenham: 2 league titles and 4 runner ups, 47 years out of the top flight (last winner or runner up 47 years ago!) European Cup - no chance! Villa: 7 league titles and 10 runner ups, more recent winner and runner up than the tots plus an extra 35 years as a top flight team! A whopping 79 out of 122 top flight years spent above Spurs! European Cup winners - yes! So Spurs overall less successful in both the main competitions
  8. Maybe he's telling them about when Tottenham played in the 4th tier and how statistically speaking they've improved more than Real Madrid
  9. Just to confirm in the main 2 competitions: Tottenham: 2 league titles and 4 runner ups, 47 years out of the top flight (last winner or runner up 47 years ago!) European Cup - no chance! Villa: 7 league titles and 10 runner ups, more recent winner and runner up than the tots plus an extra 35 years as a top flight team! A whopping 79 out of 122 top flight years spent above Spurs! European Cup winners - yes! So Spurs less successful in both the main competitions - let's hear it for their peripheral successes though. From 1975 we've won more than Spurs, won bigger than Spurs and also finished above them more often! The again overall we've won more major trophies and won bigger than them not that it is hard!
  10. Stoke made some good substitutions who made the difference. K Mac decided Emile Heskey was the answer. Chin up though.
  11. Simply Spursfect: We won more league titles than you in the 19th century and finished above you more often We won more league titles than you in the 20th century and finished above you more often We've already finished above you more often this century. I mention runner-ups because not only have we won more, we've also come 2nd in the main domestic competition (i.e the next closest to winning) more often too. I haven't even mentioned the European Cup yet! You're not even north London's top club and you haven't been the top London team for OVER 100 of the top flight years. Stop trying to pretend to us that Spurs are something that they are not
  12. No trophies for making up the numbers for one season I'm afraid. I love it when a fan of a team that has won a quarter of the big 2 trophies that we have (with your last win coming almost half a century ago) is so deluded.
  13. Winners and runner-ups in the main 2 competitions overall: Villa 18 Spurs 6 Little Tottenham
  14. Not until he compiles his list of excuses and proof as to why Spurs are still the greatest team ever. The great all conquering Tottenham. Or in the real world the team that hasn't won or got a runner up in the main domestic and European competition since man landed on the moon!
  15. I think he was just talking about the positions we have been in the premier league. You know the one where we've finished above Spurs 2 of every 3 seasons, had 6 more top six finishes and got an extra 50 points than Tottenham! Tottenham have finished in the top six three times in 18 premier league seasons! Then again I'm not surprised - you've spent about 40% of the top flight years out of the top flight so being in the division is a bit of an achievement given your history!
  16. Houllier would be a decent appointment in my view and I'd also like to see Thompson come in as number two.
  17. I wonder if the comments about Delph have anything to do with him choosing Villa over Spurs
  18. Check out Dawson for the second goal. 8) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zX8d1p8MjHo
  19. One of the ways you can really judge defences is over a complete season. I seem to recall Villa having more clean sheets and conceding less goals than Spurs last season. Dawson looked out of his depth against Hungary and it was his fault they scored. In the most recent match his poor pass could have been fatal again and he injured himself trying to get the ball back. Ok, Spurs punched above their weight for one season but I think a lot of people are far from convined that Dawson has the pace and intelligence to be anything more than an above average premiership defender. We've already seen that he is not an international footballer, more like a liability.
  20. Clean sheets for Villa: 2 Clean sheets for Spurs: 1 Dawson is so over hyped by Spurs fans. The two games he's played for England he's made dreadful errors both games. Just because Gomes saved his bacon for most of last season doesn't make him a top defender!
  21. Yeah sorry. After all what major trophies our clubs have won is all important. We've won a multiple of four times as many of the main domestic and European competition combined A club that has not been the top team in London for over 100 of the top flight years has to have a special bunch of fans.
  22. So if Dawson is a donkey, yet last season won the club's Player of the Year award, I guess it must mean that players like Bale, Modric, Defoe, Lennon (etc etc) must all be worse than donkeys. So I can only imagine that, for you, it's a total mystery how such dreadful players have managed to secure a place in the Champion's League. Ignorance is bliss I guess. In similar vein, I read on here that Delph is apparently much better than Dawson. Oh well, never mind, poor old donkey Dawson can console himself with the thought that he may be fit enough in time to play against Inter in the San Siro, whilst Delph can look forward to a sub appearance against Accrington Stanley in the League Cup. I stand corrected Michael Dawson is world class as was Djimi Traoré when he won the CL with Liverpool! Dawson has been proven as totally out of his depth at international level.
  23. General I saw a link to Houllier's signings at Liverpool and it is a real shocker. He's well up there with O'Neill for wasting money. As for pairing him with Staunton and Macdonald that sounds like a terrible idea. Macdonald should go back to reserve action (no more 6-0's please) and Staunton has done nothing to think he can make the step up. For me if it is a Moyes, Jol or Mcleish I would be very pleased. Do you understand the fans concerns General?
