  1. These kind of comments push up my positivity meter. Come on! I said defender and striker and I'd be happy. I think deadline day has gone to my head.
  2. I have a feeling this net spend issue is going to rumble on. Big money came in for two players. Two players who formed an integral part of the team last year, the money that was spent beyond that brought in,m,whatever the clauses and wages on top, has been pitiful. There's no change in the chairman's approach. Fair play to Sherwood for deploying the money so well and improving a great many areas of the team but there has been no investment. Imagine if we would've kept Benteke and Delph. We might've been lucky to just get Adama and Richards. I'm not in the business of getting on the chairman's back, i don't see the point. It needs pointing out, though.
  3. i totally agree. We don't know how much money Sherwood was promised. The problem is, whether one looks at net, gross or total spend, the fact is that a relegation contender from last year has spent very little. Sherwood has done a cracking job in trying to reinvest the cash that has come in. Ayew and Gestede have not made an incredible impact immediately but there is time before we can pass judgement properly. I would have loved to see what he could've done with more but I guess this is the usual problem. Maybe Sherwood signed up to these terms. Maybe that's why he took on the exciting young prospects - as investments. What gets me most is all the talk that the Chairman is reinvested emotionally in the club. The evidence suggests that he is not willing to show his financial commitment. Entirely his prerogative, of course, but I clearly have a different definition of commitment. I don't want the window to end in this manner - the transfers thus far have reinvigorated the energy surrounding the club. In fact, the forum has been buzzing if that's any indicator. Anyway, rant over. Jim White...over to you.
  4. This. Expressed far more clearly than I tried! Spot on DK82.
  5. I can hear Randy scraping the barrel. A Premier Lesgue team that, for all intents and purposes, seems to have run out of money to be competitive in the transfer market. I might be overreacting here, I don't know what's going behind closed doors, but Sherwood clearly wants a striker. The Thunderball-style transfers, of promising youngsters with incredible ability, seem to have stopped.
  6. If this isn't an agent trying to drum up interest, then it's appalling that the money has dried up. It reminds me of the Oyvind Leonardsen and Ronny Johnsen transfers years ago.
  7. On paper, with Adebayor and Lescott, we'd be a far stronger proposition than last year. The gelling issue is still there but hopefully Adebayor can help give Ayew some confidence/swagger. Was the photo of the two together that was circulating real?!
  8. ??? Evans has already signed and been pictured with their shirt. Whoops. These ill-informed posters, eh?! Stand corrected! Pullis facial?! There's a Bank Holiday image for you.
  9. Were Mainz not in for Kozak? Realistically, is this guy any better? Perhaps Reims would take Zog and that's what makes this chap so attractive to Sherwood? Either the money has dried up and we're looking at cheap, Lambert-style. last minute deals or the targets we did have are still under discussion (Austin? Adebayor? Rolan? Berbatov?!) hence no new links. Can't see any great surprises tomorrow. Did Rolan not sign a new contract? That's one down! Doin' a Delph, maybe?
  10. Sherwood mentioned that Zog's attitude was no problem but he clearly doesn't see him having much involvement. It shows how low his stock has gone when we can't offer him as a make weight in a deal with a Ligue 1 club or something. He once said that if he hadn't ended up playing football, then he'd be stealing for a living. Funny how things come full circle isn't it? Stealing a living is okay though. http://www.theguardian.com/football/2011/aug/12/charles-nzogbia-aston-villa-interview
  11. I think this has to be a done deal. Or near. I think it might be that Evans needs persuading that WBA are worth a punt that's stalling the deal. I can't see Pullis being as intense a personality as Sherwood in one-to-one meetings. Especially if Evans is asking questions about Berahino.

  13. If it is three then one is Lescott, another has to be a centre forward. I was sceptical about the idea of Remy, but I'd take him in a shot now. Then the third position is interesting. I still think Tim wants a winger or some sort of attacking midfielder. Playing Bacuna in that free role yesterday showed that we are pretty light in that area. If we pulled that off, got rid of Zog and kept Kozak, I'd be very very happy with this window.
  14. What's taking so long? With his ridiculous fashion statements, it's not like we could have possibly lost him somewhere at BH. I'm getting nervous-Get this man gone. If he is trying to hold out for some ridiculous loyalty bonus I think this forum will explode.
  15. Here's their reaction on the benchhttps://v.cdn.vine.co/r/videos/953083DC5F1248421408926244864_va51225cd83.mp4?versionId=9asiRT3FxyNAW80LkUnx0lJAfsOOtQMF I have to say that there's a certain amount of rejected bromance in that clip. van Gaal is propositioning Giggs with his gigantic eye movements. Giggs rejects the advances. I try to use that puppy dog expression all the time. Sadly, that disinterested look is one I'm all too used to..!
  16. I'd certainly take Hernandez on loan with a view to a permanent deal - including a clause that tells Everton to do one when they realise hey want to sign him. I don't understand why we haven't been linked with him this summer: are his wages Adebayor ludicrous or is he Gervinho helicopter-greedy? Relatively proven at this level and, although he isn't the type of hold-up player we're used to, we always have Gestede or Kozak if games come where we need that badly enough. Perhaps, as fans, we need to reassess how we play. Hernandez, Grealish, Adama etc etc. would be incredible.
  17. This might be garbage but http://www.football-italia.net/71630/frosinone-close-tonev What was it someone was saying earlier about this being potentially a Champ Manager style transfer window?!
  18. He's certainly growing in confidence - bizarrely, thinking about it, he's been at the club longer than most of the other foreign midfielders so maybe he sees himself as a mentor. Would have liked to see him as a DM instead of Veretout playing that deep in midfield last night. Lack of (trusted) personnel at CB.
  19. I appreciate that that isn't pounds sterling but just seeing that many millions next to N'Zogbia's name boggles the mind.
  20. I think this is wholly realistic. I do hope that the money being touted for Ljajic is there and that we see a last minute splurge but I fear it will be a case of these two only. We'll then get the line about wages etc. Which leads me to beg the question: We must still be up on wages compared to this time last year, surely?
  21. I've seen that expression before... Just before a Timmy facial? This is why Veretout and Ayew have looked a bit shell shocked. Can't blame them.
