  1. Sorry I just don't understand the apologist attitude many are taking towards Sherwood, quite honestly I've seen more than enough to conclude he is a million miles out of depth and if he stays in charge only blind luck will keep us up. Inexperience. Sorry don't buy it. He is 46 years old, been a professional footballer all his life, working under decent managers, plenty of spent time as a coach at Spurs and now has 1 years experience as top dog with 2 PL clubs. He isn't a 35 wet behind the ears nobody ex pro who just finished his coaching badges and has suddenly been trust into the PL limelight. Plenty of managers have adapted and had success at a younger age, and in less time than Sherwood. Time to admit he is not smart enough or cut out to be a manager, again i'm sure he'd be a great U21 coach, manger he is not. Building a team. Barring a few weak spots we have some excellent players, some already at the club, some he signed the summer himself. All i see is a directionless group of players, 'building a team' actually means instilling a physiology and style of play with the group of players at his disposal, i see non of this in the current team. Finding his best XI. Nonsense, he works with these players day in day out. Have we seen different formations week after week, have we seen wholesale changes to the starting line week after week, have we seen extensive and early substitutions to actually give fringe players an opportunity? No we've seen the same old predictable line ups and formations week after week, failure after failure, injuries are only driver to player changes. I don't dislike him per sae, but I really think it's blindingly obvious he not going to be successful here, and I really doubt he'll be a successful manager anywhere. He is simply not showing the right abilities or aptitude to manage a team, and increasing looking like he is unable to even motivate the players now. Last three games he has been throughly out foxed by experienced managers, turned two wins into a draw and loss by his inability to recognise and react to opponents tactical changes, then against west from he simply wasn't able to formulate a game plan and set the team up to even have a fighting chance. Sunderland we were somewhat unlucky and should have had that match won at half time, but after they made changes we couldn't adapt. Leicester was just an absolute disgrace, his subs directly led to us losing that match, I don't think anyone can argue against that, that's not inexperience, that's just absolute stupidity / nativity. We have some killer matches coming up, and with a team clearly low on confidence, I see no way things improve in the short term I really don't
  2. Sorry not buying the 'he needs time' line. I would if he had a plan or had implemented a real change in ethos and style of play which players were taking time to adapt to, or if we'd been unlucky etc, or if he were blooding a bunch of kids who needed to grow in confidence etc. Honestly what is going to change with time? He's exhausted the 'new manager' jump in form last season. He isn't learning or maturing from a tactical perspective. He appears to be incredibly stubborn in terms of team selection and using his subs, the longer that goes on for the less chance there is of players outside the first XI ever make an impact as they become disillusioned. Short of injuries our first XI and formation is becoming incredibly predictable, just too easy for well drilled teams to prepare against us. I'm also not convinced by Richards as Captain either, though probably not many alternatives, but we are really lacking a Melberg, Laurson, even Taylor type player who can lift and drive the team. I really just don't think he is cut out to be a manager full stop. Good coach yes, but I'm starting to think players don't have enough respect for him and that is starting to show in their performances. Time will tell no doubt, but really how much time do we give a guy with little over a years management experience given our desperate situation?
  3. The biggest concern for me is we have no direction whatsoever, as others have said Sherwood seems to think that by playing attacking football you'll win more matches than you lose and we'll be right. Sorry but no, look at Arsenal & Chelsea to see how utterly wrong that mindset is, then look at the quality of players we have.... Sherwood should be an U21 coach where he sell that attack at all costs philosophy and develop players without any real risks. As a manager / head coach, I'm sorry but he has been utterly found out, everything he has said and done over the past three week leads me believe he has absolutely no idea how to turn this around, and judging by yesterdays performance seems the players are starting the believe that too. Against Sunderland, one of the worse teams to have graced the PL in recent memory, he showed either extreme naivety or arrogance in failing to adapt after they made major half time changes and came out looking like a different side in the 2nd half. Yeah we should have won easily and been 4 up in the 1st half, but simple fact they made changes that we didn't or couldn't counter, meant we ended up drawing because of his arrogance or stupidity. Leicester game for me was when he really showed us what he has to offer the club as a manager. Taking off Gill to bring on Ayew when trying to protect a 2-0 lead, WTF, I'd really love to hear his rational behind that move i really would. And leaving Sanchez on when he clearly looked gassed, bring on Hutton for 5 mins, I mean you honestly couldn't make this stuff up. 2-0 up away from home, time to pull up stumps, flood the middle, all you have to do close down spaces and keep the ball, blind freddy can see you need fresh legs in the MIDDLE. If he thinks the sub he made were going to help us achieve that, then deadset he needs to be locked up in an asylum...... Then he blaming the players for giving the ball away and making stupid mistakes. Again you could't make it, and I hope he felt sick because that loss was down to him. It seems he thinks all he has to do is pick his 11, give um a good gee up talk before kick off, and let them get on with on it for 90 mins. His tactical naivety is simply frightening and has cost us 5 points in the last 3 games, that's a fact, I honestly believe with any other manager in league in charge of the same players we would have beaten Sunderland + Leicester. We won't stay up with Sherwood in charge, he just isn't ready and / or capable enough to be managing at this level, that's blindingly obvious. Our squad still has some weaknesses for sure, but overall with the players we have, we should be around mid table / lower mid table. For mine the blame lies squarely with Sherwood and everything I've seen so far leads to me to believe only blind luck will see us picking up results from here on in. As the season progresses he just get found out more frequently and smarter managers will run rings around him tactically.
  4. Wow, choice of sub really sums up his ability as a manager i'm afraid. Just wow, he really thinks Bacuna on for Gil is going to make the difference..
  5. Sadly I think it's becoming clear that he doesn't have a clue... Probably a decent coach, probably a great U21 coach, manager.... Not looking good.
  6. And here we have another issue... Yep agree, it's more painful knowing that Sherwood doesn't the brains / balls to make major tactical changes at half time. Becoming all too predictable.
  7. Yep I think so too, he would improve at least half the teams in the Prem and 15mil really isn't crazy money for a proven goal scorer. Guess QPR are punting that his goals will get them promoted and that's worth losing the 15mil fee. Does seem bizarre that he didn't really come close to moving over the summer.
  8. Am I right in saying that even if this is the case, Spurs need to release him from his contract today. He can only sign for a team outside of the transfer window if he is "unattached" when the window closes. Why would Spurs pay his contract out using their own cash, allowing him to join a competitor for free, receiving nothing while paying him a years salary... Can't see Levy being that generous... They'd be better served letting him train with the youth team all season if he doesn't want to join us on loan. I'm not saying he will. Moose from Talksport indicates thats the only way Ade will join West Ham as they have used all their loans. He must be a West Ham fan then , he's living the dream getting paid to dream up nonsense.. I'm sure Levy would gladly release him from his contract, in fact I bet that offer is on he table right now given he hasn't been allocated a squad number. Though I very much doubt Ade would walk away from all that $$$ knowing that worse case he can move to the Middles East, China, US etc next season a bumper free trans on reputation alone, playing regularly this season really seems secondary to him.

  10. I like to see Gabby playing for Sunderland Yeah totally agree I don't think he's going to come good until he gets a proper run of starts, does seem to be a confidence player, and sitting on the bend getting the odd 20 mins here and there is not healthy for him. Just seems so obvious to have Sinclair start and Gabby to be the impact sub if needed...
  11. Please correct me if I am wrong but I can't think of many occasions where he would come off the bench and make a difference. Maybe when he was 18/19 really eager and raw...but it has long gone. He isn't intelligent to come on the pitch, settle in and make a difference in my opinion. Although its obviously not as good as it once was Gabby still has pace; This alligned to a great deal of experience would be a godsend to have as an option from the bench. We are not exactly brimming with attacking options currently, so anything that can change a defenders mindset would be a welcome addition. He lacks the wit and finishing to be a regular starter but he is not as bad as most are making out atm. But what does all this experience actually add to his game? Absolutely nothing, would far far far rather have a 20 something year old kid who has some technical ability and hunger, who wants to make a name for himself. I'd say in reality Gabby's vast PL and club experience manifests itself by him being at least 5kg overweight, gives him a sense of entitlement knowing that no matter what he does (or doesn't do...), he's guaranteed a spot in squad and in most cases in the first XI, his experience means he earns problem 30k a week more than his actual worth in the market. Please don't use him being experienced as an excuse or reason to keep playing him, just doesn't wash. At best his pace should be used as an impact sub for 30 / 20 mins to go simply to run a defence and try to unsettle sides. It's really all he is good for these days, and that a level of expectation I can live with. Giving him a start and expecting him to score goals each week, sorry we're all going to disappointed as we have been for the last few years now... And we have plenty of attacking options at the moment, we've just signed two forwards, already have Sinclair, Kozak is back, Gil should be ready soon.
  12. I don't agree I think it would be a great bit of business. I dont agree this is 2-3 years too late. There are better options out there Such as? I would have thought Lescott's experience would make him decent a signing but na Albion fan at work said he is shockingly slow and past it. Hopes they sell him. Finally some sense about Lescott... We are 3 years too late on that one, no-one seems to be questioning why West Brom are seemingly willing to let him go and actively bidding for CB's to replace him.... I think everyone is taking him on reputation alone, I really don't see him as that much of any improvement over Senderos other than being less injury prone, the only positive I can see in signing him is he may help Richards settle more quickly. At 2.5m too expensive and I'd rather see that money go towards a proven goal scorer, at 1m maybe, on a free yep good business.
  13. spot on! Guzans distribution is awful. he put a place kick out for a throw in and gave the ball to amavi in a dodgy position which led to a goal. hes also too quiet which cost a corner that bacuna had to head out because he didnt know brad was there. Yep Guzan while not terrible is just another reminder of dreadful last few years we've had to endue. He's not terrible and is a great shot stopper on his day, but he's one of the weaker links in the side now and isn't going to improve, nor does he make us any better as a team. Look at the difference Amavi has made in the LB spot, I reckon a keeper who really commanded and marshalled the defence and had half decent distribution skills would have a similar impact to the team. Proven goal scorer goes without saying, somehow doubt we'll get both though...
  14. Just an utter disgrace, good on him he's come through the youth ranks and scored some important goals over the years, but he is well past his peak and we are simply a far weaker team with him playing. I'd be happy to never see him wear the shirt again after that performance, having him start is just asking for a trouble and if that the best we have to offer then we deserve to be struggling at the bottom of the table again. We've got to aim higher and cannot be sentimental, I really doubt he make the first XI at ANY other club in the league on merit, so why does he deserve a starting place here, just because he's a long serving player.... Makes me sick, it really does.
  15. If he doesn't contribute, what use is he? He may be 'Villa through and through', but fans sit in the stands, players on the pitch - age old rule ;-) I'm not saying there should be a big love in, or even that everyone should like him. I just don't understand where the hate comes from. We've had plenty of players who contribute less than Gabby. He normally comes good for at least 4-5 games a season so he doesn't contribute nothing. How can you be happy with a player who's on 50k a week playing 4-5 good games a season (that's being generous). I'm sorry but he's been baggage for to long and has contributed to us being far down the league. If he hadn't come through the youth ranks, I very much doubt he'd still be at the club.. He contributes very little most of the time, his technical skills are really not great, so when he gets in good attacking positions he is rarely to punish the opposition either by scoring or setting up scoring opportunities, he is not a great finisher, he does have pace though.... Plus he takes up a spot that be utilised more effectively by a better / different player. All that for 50k a week... I don't hate him per sae, but he is one of if not the weakest links in our team, yet seems almost guaranteed a starting spot if fit, and collects way more $$$ than he is actually worth. If he were on say 20k a week, started 10-15 times a year, and mostly came on as impact sub to inject some pace into our attack, it'd be a very different story.
  16. Michu is really just a younger Joe Cole but with some additional 'baggage' and frankly has achieved less in his career. Sure when on song he is a class act, but you can say that about many players (Balotelli....). There is no doubt a reason why he wasn't snapped up by a bigger club after his breakout season with Swansea, and there is clearly a reason why he hasn't managed to find a new club this following following his fall out with Swansea. Would far rather see us play Gill and Grealish with Cole as backup in that attacking role.
  17. Yep agree, anybody signing NZogbia would be doing so purely on reputation / PL 'experience', definitely not recent performances or form... You'd almost say the more game time he gets this year, the more damage he will do to his value next summer... If he does't play this season, at least his agent / advisers can spin a nice story like he was frozen out by TS, or wasn't a TS type of player, just watch video's of his Wigan days to remember what an amazing player he really is.... blah blah I think it's highly unlikely we'd even consider paying his contract out to release him now, best case we'd give him away on a free and hope somebody is stupid enough to offer him a decent signing on bonus to entice him. More realistically he'll just sit it out here and move next summer on his terms to some backwater league...
  18. Its not a case of being good enough for Barca though. If they insert a clause that they can buy him back for say £10m, if he has a great season, commanding a value of £20m, they buy him back for £10m and sell him for £20m. Its win win for them. Is Arry Redknapp working at Barca now I really doubt they'd go to that much trouble to buy back then immediately re-market a player just because there is an arbitrage in the contract buy back fee and market rate. Lot of work, and it would an utterly classless move that wouldn't earn them any praise within the game....
  19. Don't understand all the fuss, if they do insert a buy back (still not confirmed yet) it's prudent business by them, good on them really. No sense in getting worked up about it, a) they are the selling club so have power over us, and they are one of the biggest clubs in the world so have even more power in the negotiations. End of the day we'd be getting an extremely talented kid with huge potential who improves our team massively, and in reality he'd have to perform exceptionally well to even pop up on Barca's radar in the future as I think they'd only think of buying him back if he could hold his own in the first team... If he turned out to be that good, sure we'd lose out $$$ selling him, but we'd gain an awful lot in terms of improved league position, rebuilding our status as a top club etc.. Frankly I'd just be stoked to have such a talent actual sign for us. I imagine it's more likely that he ends up being a very good player, but by that time a new batch of wonder kids has emerged that Barca are more interested in anyways...
  20. Yeah I guess we'll likely never know if Lerner is really struggling to sell or simply holding out for a buyer that he believes will be a good custodian for the club and take us forward sustainably (which I hope is the case). Probably more telling is the fact the deal to sell West Brom fell through, which appeared to be closer than Lerner has come to selling... Peace is a pretty smart guy from a finance background, it looks like he senses this is the top of market and wants to cash out, but couldn't make that deal work or thought it was too dangerous for the club.
  21. Nonsense really, highly subjective and it's a snapshot that could / will change month to month. R.e. land values, good point, but in reality it's very difficult for a new owner to realise real estate assets, Man City and West Ham lucky to be gifted new stadiums on extremely generous terms, those deals don't happen very often.... Arsenal seem to have done well with their stadium move, Spurs may well make money when they move too, but it's not the norm. Bournemouth may be worth 100m today purely on tv money revenue potential, but come Feb if they are rooted to the bottom of the league with relegation looking a certainty that valuation will likely halve... Man City may be worth 900m to it's current owner, simply because the club is a vehicle for Abu Dhabi state interests and receives some very generous sponsorship and make use of many 'shared services' that would disappear under different ownership. Certainly wouldn't have the same value or appeal to another more traditional Lerner type owner. Stoke and Swansea are punching well above their weight and you'd have to think will struggle to increase revenue or raise their profiles beyond the extra tv money. As an investor you'd be clinically insane to buy either at that sort of price, limited upside, massive downside if they have one bad season, and that's without factoring in both have been extremely well managed by the current owners, change the ownership / business management and they could fall apart quickly. West Brom in the same basket, extremely well managed but seem to have 'peaked' so to speak. I guess Southampton have benefited from some significant player sales over the past few years, and seem to have an excellent academy, but there's no guarantee they will produce a Shaw, Chambers, or Bale type player every season. Spurs worth 700m wtf, maybe in Levy's mind... If this were real, Villa look like a real bargain and far and away the best 'investment' potential of the bunch.
  22. I was certainly impressed by the enthusiasm he showed when celebrating the goal... I think that shows he is taking the 'club' captain role seriously. On another day if he'd had the sense of mind to lay the ball off to the top of goal square for say Sinclair, Gil, Grealish, Gueye etc to finish rather than shooting it could have been a magical passage of play, instead of the disappointment it ends up being with his tame effort. You have to hope Sherwood and co can coach that sort of footballing sense into him, he is still only 28, he should be at his absolute peak now. As many others say, he strength is running at defensives and opening them up, his weakness is poise / consistency / end product in front of goal...
  23. Agree, staying here getting a few mins here and there off the bench when he makes the match day squad is not going to help him fitness or confidence wise. I want him to succeed, while he might not be fastest or most technically gifted, he definitely has the right attitude and seems totally committed to both the Villa and his career. In my book that carries a lot of weight, esp. when you look at players like NZogbia....
  24. The only reason you wouldn't go on loan is if you thought your stock would fall lower and influence your next contract. If he believed in himself he'd go out on loan and interest several clubs into offering him a deal when his current one expires. Sounds like one to avoid if he thinks doing nothing for a year is the best opton. Yeah absolutely right, if that's really true then he is most certainly one to avoid and likely has a terrible attitude and little to no confidence in his actual ability. Not as if it's at the height of his career now, every day he does't play he becomes less valuable and more of a risk / gamble for clubs to take on. There doesn't appear to be a long queue lined up to buy / loan him now, can't imagine that queue getting any longer next summer if he does;t play any competitive football all season.... Not sure whether he is greedy, delusional, poorly advised, or just not very smart...
  25. They haven't given him a squad number, so unless he suddenly finds himself back on the inner, it doesn't really matter what Levy wants, he is only worth what someone is willing to pay to take him off their hands. Vicious circle for Levy, I'm sure he wants to get as much as he can for him, but if he demands stupid money he'll price himself out of a sale and invites the risk of leaving it too late to ship him out on loan again. He'll end up burning an awful lot of $$$ paying him to turn up for a daily kick out with the U21's... I'd say a bid of 3/4m maybe sweetened with some performance / league finish addons would be a really smart move and maybe force his hand.
